when the announcer said “good for scott hunter” in ep 5 that was huge for me because it represents support in a sport that maybe you wouldn’t expect it from, the presence of support when maybe we would expect backlash which isn’t it so weird and disappointing that we as a society have come to expect negativity and violence? isn’t that simple sentence just the most perfect way to inspire hope that we as a society could have the world where the first response is support and happiness instead of the one perpetuating hate? that hope and love and acceptance would be the first reaction to a person loving another person regardless of sexuality, represented literally with a character living through what would be considered such success (which says a lot about society, that acceptance is considered success) because it was always about queer hope and a future and reality where acceptance is the norm and a future is possible

there’s something to be said about heated rivalry’s portrayal of multiple queer elite athletes in the same sport because it breaks the expected societal ratio and normalizes the fact that multiple queer people exist everywhere and every place at the same time, and that they could be sitting in the room with you or on the tv screen, because it’s such a real commentary on how many queer people are actually around you and even in the show it only shows the queer people who made it out and leaves you wondering how many of them haven’t made it out and how many people in real life haven’t made it out
