They’ve never really spoken, but when her classmate Sebastian Sallow spends most of the previous semester's spring and all of summer in Azkaban, Persephone is one of the only ones brave enough now to just talk to the guy. She doesn't get it. Sure, he's a little thorny and noticeably colder and worn down than he used to be, but come on... isn't that to be expected? Everyone else treats him like some sort of leper or bloody pariah now.

But Persephone doesn't scare easily. An outcast herself, she gets it... Not to mention any whiff of a mystery causes an insatiable curiosity she'll readily admit to.

The truth is, forming a friendship with this guy is going to be tough. Even though he's obviously not trying to win popularity points, she's aware her reputation of being a real oddball is likely putting him off. Sebastian is constantly either actively avoiding her, or otherwise surrounded by the few friends left from his loyal Slytherin possy (*cough* assholes). And everyone is so damn tightlipped—including and especially Ominis, suspect #1. Figuring out whatever the hell is going on with him will be a whole other journey...

She's not alone, though. Her only true friends, Sam Dale and Natty Onai, are both on board, and fortunately know Sebastian a little better than she—but honestly, they both got their own messes to deal with this year. Sam's mischievous little brother William is starting school and screwing things up for her already, and Natty's mother finally seeing someone new since her father's death, sending her on a whirlwind of emotions as she's forced to play nice and get to know the guy—and all of this on top of their blasted N.E.W.T.s coming up.

Oh, and some of their peers got hot?? Fuck! Gonna have to deal with that too now...

Persephone's not getting distracted, though, no sir. Blinders on. Desperate to determine the truth about who exactly turned him in, she goes on a quest to pursue a rocky friendship with Sebastian anyway, question anyone and everyone involved, and get to the bottom of it all—uh, out of the kindness of her heart, of course (and hey, if a great article comes out of it, well... that's just a bonus!)

But when the truth of the mystery goes beyond the walls of Hogwarts, and the Gaunts and a slew of other dark wizards get involved, and shit hits the fan at school and maybe even some, er, feelings develop, the kids have to take a deep breath and make some serious choices. And much like Persephone’s new friend, a poor farm boy who had no business in a place like Azkaban, she realizes they’ll have to grow up fast…
