To celebrate, or in this case acknowledge, International Zine Month I am making my first e-zine Cavett & Company free for the remainder of the festivities. 

It certainly has been an hectic month. From the historical anniversaries of D-Day (yay) and the OJ Simpson car chase (too 90's) to the spur of the moment political primary excitement of Rep. Eric Cantor losing (yay) and re-nomination of Sen. Thad  Cochran (meh) and even video game news with the re-release of Grim Fandango (yay) and another StarFox game (double yay). Here is another brief news item that caught my attention. An Ambassador was sworn in using a Kindle! I found this act practical but am slightly surprised by the lack of outrage. If you recall in early 2009, President Obama had be to re-sworn into office because he incorrectly uttered the Presidential Oath and for some reason that prevented him from being President. The thing about titles is that they are socially constructed and their power comes from people agreeing to them. The President is not defined by  directly saying of the oath but by the winning the election in the previous November and people agreeing the winner is the next president (2000 notwithstanding). 2008 was not even the first time a mistake was made swearing in. Both Presidents Taft and Hoover made mistakes yet history leaves out the calamity their errors caused. Just to fuel the internet's fire, it's similar to the act of selecting a Pope.  The new Pope becomes Pope when then sit in the special pope chair that only Popes sit. It's not the chair, but maybe the lack of lumbar support connects you to God. Rather the College of Cardinals agrees that this person is the Pope. But then there is truthiness. Titles are oral traditions based off of a foundation laid by mutual socially agreement. They are not ironclad structures and are adaptable so long as everyone agrees the new formats are the same as the old. That's the point.  

Like most of the vintage geek internet crowd I read Console Wars sometime during the last month. Needless to say it was a great fast-paced read that helped to fill in a gap of my video game knowledge. I'll let you decide if it because I am too young to remember or so old that my memory is fading.

I thought I would help to re-brand the telling of the '90's video game battles as an old time boxing match. I figured old meme for old games.

I drew this guy a few days ago and I couldn't help but get a sense of ennui.

I think because it so closely resembles the great work of Scott C. I think if you change my retro video game character to a lumberjack and add some color he might be in this.

Has it really been over a month since my last post? Since St. Patrick's Day? Since Twitch played Pokemon? The answer to all of those  is yes. I regret to say that I have been busy with work and warm weather but it is far from a legitimate excuse for not doodling more.

To make up for the dearth of posting I am going to delve further back then a month for this post's joke. Using some template art I have created a Mario-esque Flappy Bird clone where you are a star running from Mario!

With the recent relaunch of 538 Nate Silver discusses the decision-making approaches of the fox and hedgehog. This adage implies that foxes engage in multiple approaches to decision-making while hedgehogs focus on a single tactic. Hedgehogs may be a one trick animal but they sure do it well.

I know things have been quite as of late but I am not ready to unveil my current project. It's Vito a retelling of the classic story of Candide using retro video game characters! I am not sure if this is insane or just inane but follow along either way and hopefully I can make you laugh.

As for the riding of the waves I am combining the waning effects of St. Patrick's Day, as shown with the GameBoy green with the upcoming third iteration of Twitch plays Pokemon. My genuis strikes again.
