I remembered that I forgot I said Iâll try to be more active here woops
Buggy can give good haircuts but itâs hit or miss if he will give you a good haircut because he doesnât want to be upstaged. He wants to be the pretty one in the relationship/friendship
Imagine Buggyâs reaction when youâre put on the standâŚ
âPut the next prisoner on the stand!â Alvida announced.
Giddy from the sentence he had given the Straw Hat, Buggy was confused about who else was being tried. The plan was always Luffy.
Two of Alvidaâs pirates pulled away the handcuffed kid to the side as another two brought a second figure to take his place - one that Buggy was very familiar with.
You were cuffed at the wrist and gagged with a cloth like a criminal. Your eyes were taking in the room before they landed on him and⌠were you glaring at him?
How was this his fault? Buggy was certain that you had made it out of Loguetown by now.
âUh⌠honey bunny?â He said, turning to Alvida. The pet name tasted like ash on his tongue. âWhatâs this?â
He saw the smile on Alvidaâs face when she answered. âIâm simply being thorough. The person before you is known to be an ally to the Straw Hats.â
Shit. Why did he have to fall for you?
Buggy stepped towards Alvida, hoping to appeal to her better nature. âAlvida, trust me. Theyâre not worth the time. Why not just let them go - we already have Luffy.â
âI donât care. The jury will decide their fate.â Alvida stated and slammed her weapon against the ground like a gavel.
Buggy couldnât let the panic show. So he did what he knew best - he began talking. âPirates and fiends - the person before you is a fool who thinks that the Shit Hats are worth saving.â
He really needed to stop letting his eyes dart to you because any expression you made towards him made him want to melt.
âDo we admire such hope? Absolutely. I know I do.â Buggy answered and then queried again. âShould they be punished for this misguided notion? Maybe, but why does it need to be today?â
âCut off their head!â
âExecution!â
The crowd was in an uproar for your blood. Buggy needed to figure out a way that didnât end in your death.
âWe already have one, fantastic execution lined up for tonight.â He laughed and caught the glare from Alvida - pick a punishment or they die. âSo, I propose torture aboard the most heinous ship in all the East Blue.â He offered.
The crowd took a few moments to ponder⌠and one-by-one began to agree. Buggy figured that they were assuming that they were the heinous ship. Fools.
Satisfied with everyoneâs support, Buggy pulled off his black coat and slammed his hand on the buzzer to seal the sentence.
âWell, the system works. Theyâll be on my ship.â
Before Alvida could protest, Buggy grabbed your arm and led you out of the tent. Once at a safe distance, he pulled the cloth from your mouth and began to work on your hands.
âTorture? That was the best you could come up with?â You snapped at him.
Buggy frowned at your bindings. âRight now youâre torturing me.â He grumbled.
âIf you think I wonât fight you...â
Buggy unlocked the cuffs and grabbed your chin with enough pressure to stop you mid-sentence.
âFortunately for both of us, Iâm too fixated on you that I canât lift a finger.â He told you, voice firm but whispered. âGet to the docks and onto my ship. I canât save you a second time.â

Fake FiancĂŠe
Characters: Buggy
Summary: You should have realized something was up when Buggy offered to come with you on a job for Crocodile. But lies can become truth if given enough time.
Masterlist
Buggy the Clown was many things, but subtle was not one of them. It was something you quickly learned after the formation of the Cross Guild. You were Crocodileâs assistant; he had helped you out of a bad situation with your ex-fiancĂŠ, and you had agreed to work for him since you didnât have anywhere to go. It was helpful to have someone who didnât have a bounty poster working certain jobs, so as far as one was concerned, you were just a civilian. Â
You had been sent to scope out a casino the Crocodile wanted to take over, and for some reason Buggy had offered to travel with you. It was a rather odd offer given you barely interacted with the clown, but Crocodile gave the okay, so you had to roll with it. This choice may have been a mistake. Â
The casino doors slammed open with enough force to make half the room jump. The bandâs music faltered, the sounds of dice and machines slowed, and a woman near the bar cursed as her drink splashed across the counter.Â
And through the entrance strode a Marine captain flanked by armed soldiers.Â
Wonderful, just what you needed right now. You lowered your cards slowly, resisting the urge to sink deeper into your chair. Around the glittering casino floor, conversations dimmed into nervous murmurs while the Marines swept the room with sharp, suspicious eyes.Â
âTheyâre looking for a pirate,â the bartender whispered under his breath. At the center stage, dancers hurried away beneath flashing lights while wealthy tourists tried very hard not to look concerned.Â
Honestly, you mightâve escaped notice entirely if not for the loud voice suddenly shouting, âThere you are, sweetheart!â Before you could react, an arm wrapped around your shoulders and yanked you sideways into a solid chest smelling faintly of smoke, expensive cologne, and sea salt.Â
You stared upward in horror, bright blue hair, red nose, and a smug grin stretched too wide. âOh no,â you said aloud. What the hell was Buggy doing here? He said he was going to stay on the ship. Â
âMiss me?â Buggy the Clown asked dramatically.Â
âWhat are you doing here?â You hissed slightly trying to not look at the Marines whose attention was defiantly locked on to the two of you. Â
âWell, I missed you and figured you needed your good luck charm while playingâ he shot back, his smile never wavering.Â
The Marine captainâs eyes narrowed, recognition flashed across his face instantly. âBuggy the Clown.âÂ
Buggy pointed at himself in exaggerated offense. âWrong! I am but a humble businessman enjoying a peaceful evening with my beloved fiancĂŠ.âÂ
You blinked. âFiancĂŠe?â you repeated.Â
His fingers dug into your shoulder hard enough to warn you. âPlay along,â he muttered through clenched teeth while somehow still grinning at the Marines. âUnless prison sounds fun.âÂ
You glanced toward the Marine patrol slowly surrounding the casino exits. Then back to the pirate captain currently attached to your side like an overdramatic parasite. âYouâve got to be kidding me.âÂ
Buggy laughed loudly, entirely for show. âAh, my darling always jokes when their nervous!âÂ
âIâm not nervous.âÂ
âOf course not, sweetheart.âÂ
âIâm going to kill you.âÂ
âThereâs that fiery spirit I fell in love with.âÂ
The Marine captain stepped closer. âYou expect me to believe Buggy the Clown is engaged?âÂ
Buggy gasped so theatrically several nearby gamblers looked offended on his behalf. âYou wound me, sir! Is it truly so unbelievable that a man of my charisma and beauty found love?âÂ
âYes.âÂ
âThat was fast,â Buggy muttered with an overdramatic pout. Â
You pressed a hand over your mouth to stop yourself from laughing, he may be annoying at times, but he was funny. Unfortunately, Buggy noticed. His eyes widened slightly before his grin sharpened with renewed confidence Â
The captain crossed his arms. âIf thatâs true, then your fiancĂŠe wonât mind answering a few questions.âÂ
Buggyâs arm tightened around your shoulders instinctively. âOh, my darling hates interrogations,â Buggy said smoothly. âTraumatic childhood, very tragic.âÂ
âI hate you,â you whispered.Â
âAnd yet you endure me.âÂ
The captain looked unconvinced. âThen perhaps you wonât mind if we search your belongings.â Buggy froze, just for a second. Inside your bag was an eternal pose back to where the Cross Guild was. If they found that and decided to follow it, you would be in trouble Â
Thinking quickly, you looped your arm through his, Buggy blinked down at you in surprise. Then you smiled sweetly at the Marines. âCaptain,â you said softly, âsurely you can see my fiancĂŠÂ and I are trying to enjoy our evening.â The word fiancĂŠ nearly made Buggy choke, even though he had said not two minutes ago. âWe've spent weeks traveling together,â you continued smoothly. âAnd honestly? If I had to survive the Grand Line with anyone else, Iâd throw myself overboard.âÂ
A snort escaped from one of the Marines nearby. Buggy stared at you like heâd forgotten how breathing worked, but the Marine captain still looked skeptical, but less certain now. âYouâve been traveling with him willingly?âÂ
âUnfortunately.âÂ
âHEY!âÂ
You patted Buggyâs chest absentmindedly. âHe gets emotional.âÂ
âI do not...âÂ
The Marine captain sighed heavily, clearly deciding this was no longer worth the paperwork. âFine. But weâll be monitoring the harbor.â His gaze hardened toward Buggy. âOne wrong move and youâre finished.âÂ
Buggy puffed himself up immediately. âSir, I am a respected businessman.âÂ
âYou have a bounty poster.âÂ
âPropaganda.âÂ
The Marines finally moved on through the casino. The second they disappeared into the crowd, Buggy dropped his arm from your shoulders and rounded on you. âWhat was that?!â He whispered yell glancing back at where they had gone.Â
âYouâre welcome,â you shot back.Â
âI had it handled!âÂ
âYou looked two seconds away from exploding.âÂ
Buggy opened his mouth, paused, then pointed accusingly. âYou called me your fiancĂŠ.âÂ
âYou called me your fiancĂŠe first.âÂ
âYes, but I was improvising.âÂ
âAnd I was saving your ass and mine.âÂ
Buggy stared at you for a long moment before suddenly grinning again. âOh, this is perfect.âÂ
You immediately didnât like that tone. âNo,â you said firmly.Â
âOh yes.âÂ
âNo.âÂ
âThe Marines are watching the harbor,â Buggy explained, already sounding delighted with himself. âWhich means theyâll absolutely be keeping an eye on us.âÂ
âWe are not an us.âÂ
âWe are now, sweetheart.â He slung an arm around your shoulders again and began steering you deeper into the casino floor.Â
You dug your heels in. âAbsolutely not, I need to finish what I was sent here to do.âÂ
âAbsolutely yes, you already now Crocy wants this place, sending you was a formality, so you have done your job already.âÂ
âI am not pretending to be engaged to you.âÂ
âYou already all and dropping the act now will get us both into trouble.âÂ
You hated how much he had a point. Music swelled again across the casino as gamblers returned cautiously to their tables. Around you, lights glittered gold against polished marble floors while dancers climbed back onto the stage. Somehow, in the middle of all the noise and chaos, Buggy still was focused on you, like this was the most entertaining thing that had happened to him in weeks. And honestly it probably was.Â
âYouâre enjoying this way too much,â you muttered.Â
âIâm a performer,â he said proudly. âOf course I am.âÂ
Then his detached hand floated past your face carrying two glasses of champagne. You stared as the hand wiggled its fingers at you. âI hate everything about this.â Buggy barked out a laugh.Â
Within the next couple of hours, you learned three very important things.Â
First, the Marines were still watching the harbor and you both like hawks. Second, the casino hotel only had one room left available. And third, Buggy the Clown was the single most irritating man alive.Â
âIs there nothing else available?â you asked Â
The hotel clerk smiled politely from behind the marble counter. âMy apologies, but the festival has filled nearly every room in the city.âÂ
âThere,â Buggy announced triumphantly, pointing at the poor woman like heâd personally won an argument with the universe. âYou heard her.â The clerk glanced nervously between the two of you while several Marines lingered near the entrance of the lobby pretending, very badly, not to watch.Â
Buggy noticed them immediately, his grin widened and before you could stop him, he dramatically grabbed your hand and dropped to one knee. The entire lobby gasped. âOh, come on,â you hissed.Â
âMy darling,â Buggy declared loudly, pressing the back of your hand against his forehead, âwould you truly deny me one night beside the radiant light of my life?âÂ
A woman near the staircase actually started awing at the sight. You stared down at him in disbelief and he winked. You wanted to throw him into the ocean, instead, you forced a strained smile through clenched teeth. âWell, who am I to deny you, my love.âÂ
âSo thatâs a yes?âÂ
âOf course it is.âÂ
Buggy rose smoothly, still grinning like an idiot. The hotel clerk handed over the room key with a bright smile âSuite 304.âÂ
âThank you kindly,â Buggy said with exaggerated charm. Then he slung an arm around your waist and guided you toward the stairs before you could murder him publicly. Â
The second you entered the hallway, your smile dropped. âYou are insane.âÂ
âAnd handsome.âÂ
âNo.âÂ
âAnd charismatic.âÂ
âStill no.âÂ
Buggy clutched his chest dramatically. âYou wound me, sweetheart.âÂ
âIâm serious! You canât just do that in front of people!âÂ
âIt was improv.âÂ
âYou got on one knee!âÂ
âTheatrics are important.âÂ
âYou are impossible.âÂ
âAnd yet,â he said smugly, âit worked.â That was the irritating part, he was right, again. Â
The suite itself was absurdly luxurious. Tall windows overlooked the harbor below where Marine ships sat anchored beside the crowded docks. Velvet furniture filled the sitting room while crystal chandeliers glittered overhead.Â
And in the center bedroom, one bed, oh the universe must have been screwing with you.Â
You stopped in the doorway and Buggy stopped beside you. Then both of you stared silently at the massive mattress. âAbsolutely not,â you said.Â
âOh, donât be dramatic.âÂ
âYouâre joking.âÂ
âItâs a very large bed.âÂ
âYouâre still not sleeping in it with me.âÂ
Buggy scoffed loudly, âPlease. As if Iâm the problem here.âÂ
You turned slowly, âExcuse me?âÂ
âYouâre clearly obsessed with me already.âÂ
âI am not.âÂ
Buggy tossed his coat over a nearby chair before flopping backward onto the mattress spread-eagle. âThis is nice,â he sighed happily.Â
You crossed your arms. âMove.âÂ
âNo.âÂ
âI mean it.âÂ
âSo do I.âÂ
âYouâre unbelievable.âÂ
âAnd handsome. Donât forget handsome.â You grabbed one of the decorative pillows and hurled it directly at his face. Buggyâs head detached from his body an instant before impact and the pillow slammed harmlessly into the wall. His floating head cackled.Â
âOh, thatâs cheating!âÂ
âYou throw surprisingly well,â Buggy admitted. His body, unfortunately still laying on the bed, crossed its arms smugly while his head drifted lazily through the air. âThis arrangement might actually be fun.âÂ
âYou are the worst person Iâve ever met.âÂ
âAww, you say the sweetest thingsâ You opened your mouth to snap back at him, but paused, outside the window, movement caught your attention. The marines from the lobby, they now stood across the street watching the hotel.Â
Buggy noticed your shift of attention and his grin faded a bit as he glanced out the window. âYeah,â he said quieter. âTheyâre not letting this go.âÂ
You looked back toward him. For the first time since meeting him, the constant performance cracked just enough for you to glimpse the stress underneath. He was worried. You leaned against the window with a sigh. âWhat exactly did you do?âÂ
Buggy immediately looked offended. âWhy assume I did something?âÂ
âYouâre a wanted pirate.âÂ
âThat feels judgmental.âÂ
âBuggy I work for Crocodile.âÂ
âThatâs unrelated.âÂ
âBuggy.âÂ
He clicked his tongue before finally waving a dismissive hand. âItâs complicated.âÂ
âThat usually means illegal.âÂ
âIt means profitable.âÂ
Before you could respond, a sharp knock echoed through the suite, both of you froze and another knock followed. âHotel service,â came a voice outside.Â
Buggyâs eyes narrowed instantly, and you felt the shift in him immediately. You knew what it was like when someone was squaring off to fight, and this was it. One detached hand silently floated toward several hidden knives near his coat. Â
You moved carefully toward the door. Buggy caught your wrist before you could reach it and his voice dropped low. âBehind me.â The sudden seriousness in his tone sent a strange rush through your chest. Then he grinned again, fast and sharp like heâd slapped the mask back into place. âWouldnât want my beloved fiancĂŠ getting hurt.âÂ
You stared at him for half a second, then squeezed his hand once before stepping aside. Buggy blinked like the gesture surprised him. Another knock sounded, this time and it was harder. Buggy cracked his neck with exaggerated flair before striding toward the door. âOh,â he said cheerfully, knives sliding into his detached hands behind his back, âthis should be entertaining.âÂ
Buggy yanked the suite door open with a grin already in place. âRoom service, took you guys long enough.â Three Marines stood outside, marines armed with rifles and expressions far too serious for your liking.Â
The one in front smiled thinly. âCaptain Buggy.âÂ
Buggy smiled right back. âWhat can I help you with?âÂ
The marineâs gaze slid past him into the suite, toward you, now standing near the window once again. âWe only have a few more questions for you and your fiancĂŠe,â the marine said.Â
Buggy leaned casually against the doorway. You could now see the detached hand behind his back quietly spinning three knives between its fingers. âWe already answered questions downstairs,â Buggy replied lightly.Â
âAnd yet,â the Marine captain said, âyour story has inconsistencies.âÂ
You sighed internally. Buggy, however, looked delighted. âInconsistencies? In our relationship? Impossible. Weâre disgustingly in love.âÂ
âName their favorite flower.â Buggy froze and the marine folded his arms smugly. âA strange thing not to know about your fiancĂŠe.âÂ
Buggy turned his head slightly toward you. âSunflower?â He guessed weakly.Â
You stared at him and he stared back. âHe is right, those are my favorites.âÂ
The Marines looked deeply unconvinced now and the one on his right shifted his rifle higher. âPerhaps we should continue this discussion at headquarters.âÂ
Buggyâs smile thinned dangerously. âNo,â he said simply. The tension was threatening to snap across the room. The Marines reached for their weapons. Behind Buggy, detached hands silently floated into attack positions.Â
You could practically feel violence building in the air. And if a fight broke out here, the entire hotel would erupt into chaos. Thinking fast, you stepped forward before either side could do something stupid and grabbed Buggy by the face.Â
He made a startled noise as you pulled him down into a kiss, as the room went dead silent. For one glorious second, Buggy completely stopped functioning. Just wide-eyed shock, honestly, it was the quietest youâd ever seen him. But you did have his lips covered with yours. You kissed him hard enough to make it believable, one hand curled into the front of his coat while the Marines stood frozen in awkward horror nearby.Â
Then you pulled back slowly and Buggy looked genuinely dizzy. You kept your expression annoyed as you turned toward the marines. âAre we done here?â You snapped. âWe spent weeks at sea together, and I would like to spend some quality time with him on land.âÂ
One marine immediately looked away as another turned bright red. The one in the middle looked like he desperately regretted knocking on the door at all. Â
Buggy, meanwhile, was still visibly recovering. âYouâŚâ he said faintly and you elbowed him sharply. âOh! Right!â Buggy suddenly barked, recovering instantly. âYes! Passion! Romance! True love!â His detached hands threw knives into the ceiling entirely out of emotional confusion.Â
âRight,â the marine said quickly. âApologies for disturbing you.âÂ
âYes, leave,â Buggy said immediately.Â
âEnjoy your stay.âÂ
âOh, we will.â The door slammed shut the second they retreated into the hallway.Â
Then Buggy slowly turned toward you. âYou kissed me.âÂ
You crossed your arms. âYouâre welcome.âÂ
âYou kissed me.âÂ
âYes, I heard you the first time.âÂ
âYou actually kissed me.âÂ
âOh my god.âÂ
Buggy touched his mouth like heâd just experienced a religious awakening. âThat was your plan?â he asked.Â
âIt worked, didnât it?â Buggy stared at you for another long second, then pointed accusingly. âYou used tongue.âÂ
Your face burned instantly. âI absolutely did not.âÂ
âYou absolutely did!âÂ
âThat was strategy!âÂ
âThat was passion!âÂ
âYou are unbelievable.â Â
Buggyâs grin spread slowly across his face. âYou know,â he said carefully, âfor a fake fiancĂŠe youâre very convincing.â Something in his tone made your stomach flip unexpectedly, so naturally, you did the mature thing. You grabbed another pillow and hit him with it and Buggy burst into laughter. It was bright, sharp and impossible to ignore as he stumbled backward onto the bed dramatically clutching his chest.Â
âOh, sweetheart,â he sighed, still laughing, âyouâre gonna ruin me for other people.âÂ
âThat implies other people can tolerate you.âÂ
âWhy have anyone else when I have you.â You rolled your eyes, but the tension was gone. Buggy looked at you for a moment too long before clearing his throat and standing again. âSo,â he announced loudly, âobviously the marines are obsessed with us now.âÂ
âObviously.âÂ
âWhich means we need to sell this relationship harder.âÂ
You narrowed your eyes. âMeaning?âÂ
Before you could react, Buggy grabbed your hand dramatically and held it against his chest; his heartbeat was fast, faster than you expected. âYou,â he declared, âare officially accompanying me to the festival tonight.âÂ
âThe what?âÂ
âThe harbor festival! Dancing! Gambling! Fireworks! Criminal activity!âÂ
âOne of those things is concerning.âÂ
Buggy grinned as one his detached hand pulled the knives from the ceiling and slipped them back into his coat. âWeâre being watched anyway,â he said quietly. âMight as well make a show of it.â His other hand grabbing yours.Â
You studied him carefully, he was planning something, and the smart move would be to stay put in the room, but somehow, despite every warning instinct you possessed, you squeezed his hand back and nodded. Â
By sunset, the harbor festival had transformed the entire city into chaos. Music thundered through crowded streets. Strings of glowing lanterns hung overhead between buildings while performers breathed fire along the waterfront. Drunken pirates stumbled between market stalls beside nobles pretending they absolutely did not gamble illegally after dark.Â
And at the center of it all, Buggy was thriving. âThis,â he declared proudly, throwing his arms wide as fireworks burst over the harbor, âis my natural habitat.âÂ
âYou mean hanging out with drunk idiots?âÂ
âCelebration.âÂ
âYou knocked over a food cart ten minutes ago.âÂ
âIt was the road.âÂ
You snorted despite yourself and Buggy immediately looked smug about it. The worst part was that heâd somehow managed to look good tonight, still ridiculous, obviously. But the long dark coat hanging loose over his striped shirt combined with the festival lights and confident grin made him annoyingly attractive. Which was deeply inconvenient for you, especially when he noticed you staring.Â
âOh?â Buggy leaned closer with a smirk. âSee something you like, lover?âÂ
âNo.âÂ
âYou're a bad liar.âÂ
âYouâre insufferable.âÂ
âAnd yet your eyes keep wandering all over this.â You immediately looked away and Buggyâs grin widened in victory. Â
Before he could say something even more unbearable, loud cheers erupted further down the harbor. A crowd had gathered around a massive gambling ring near the docks. Buggyâs eyes practically sparkled. âOh, now that looks promising.âÂ
âThat sentence has never led to anything good.âÂ
Too late. He was already dragging you through the crowd by the hand. The gambling ring sat beneath strings of lantern light where pirates and wealthy tourists shouted over piles of beli stacked on long tables. Dice rolled across velvet while cards snapped between skilled fingers.Â
And at the center stood a massive man covered in gold jewelry laughing loudly as terrified players lost money around him. âAh,â Buggy said brightly. âI hate him already.âÂ
You glanced sideways. âDo you know him?âÂ
âNo.âÂ
âThen why?âÂ
âHe looks smug.â Â
Fair enough. The gold-covered man noticed Buggy almost immediately, and recognition flashed across his face a grin that a shiver down your spine spread slowly across his face.Â
âWell, well,â the man boomed. âIf it isnât the great clown himself.â Several nearby conversations died instantly as people turned and started to whisper among themselves. Buggy stiffened beside you almost imperceptibly.Â
Buggy recovered quickly, flashing his usual arrogant grin. âAlways nice to be recognized.âÂ
âAnd whoâs this?â the man asked, looking you over openly.Â
Buggyâs hand tightened around yours instantly. âMy fiancĂŠe.âÂ
âFiancĂŠe, huh?â The man laughed loudly. âDidnât think you had the guts for commitment, clown.âÂ
Buggy smiled, coldly. âOh, Iâm full of surprises.â The atmosphere shifted subtly, but you felt it immediately. Because beneath all the jokes and dramatics, Buggy was still dangerous when he wanted to be.Â
The man grinned wider. âThen letâs make things interesting.âÂ
Buggy tilted his head. âGo on.âÂ
âA game.â The man gestured toward the gambling table. âWinner takes the pot.âÂ
Buggy scoffed. âPlease. I donât need your money.âÂ
âMaybe not,â the man agreed. âBut if you loseâ His eyes slid toward you. âYour fiancĂŠe spends the evening on my arm instead.âÂ
The harbor seemed to go silent and you could feel your stomach dropped. Several pirates nearby immediately backed away from the table as they looked at Buggy. He had stopped smiling entirely. One hand slowly curled into a fist at his side; the man either didnât notice or was too stupid to care.Â
You looked at Buggy carefully, his expression was unreadable now beneath the lantern light, but like a switch flipping he laughed. âOh,â he said. âYouâre dead.âÂ
The man barked another laugh. âScared to lose?âÂ
Buggy stepped forward slowly. âNo,â he said pleasantly. âIâm deciding how painful I want this to be.â Several weapons quietly appeared in detached hands around him.Â
The crowd shifted nervously. You touched Buggyâs arm lightly before this turned into fight and his gaze snapped toward you instantly. And just like that, the rage softened slightly. You stepped beside him. âDonât.âÂ
âHe just bet you like property.âÂ
âI noticed.âÂ
âI could kill him.âÂ
âYou say that very casually.âÂ
Buggy looked genuinely confused. âWell, yes.â And something in your stomach flipped again, but it was a warm feeling at the same time.Â
The gold-covered man laughed again. âWhatâs wrong, clown? Afraid your fiancĂŠe prefers real men?âÂ
Bad choice of words. Buggyâs smile returned immediately, but it somehow felt more threatening. Then he leaned down near your ear. âSweetheart,â he murmured, âwould it ruin the romance if I blew this entire dock up?âÂ
You bit back a laugh. âProbably.âÂ
âTch. Tragic.â Then, before you could stop him, Buggy turned dramatically toward the gambling table and slammed both hands down onto the velvet. âFine!â he announced loudly. âOne game!âÂ
âYou cannot be serious,â you hissed. Â
Buggy leaned sideways slightly, very quietly, so only you could hear: âI need access to the ship behind the docks.â You glanced toward the harbor where a heavily guarded ship floated beyond the festival lights.Â
Marine patrols surrounded it and whatever Buggy wanted from there, this entire fake engagement chaos suddenly made a lot more sense. âYou planned this,â you realized.Â
Buggy grinned sideways. âI prefer the term improvisational genius.âÂ
Before you could respond, the gold-covered man slammed dice onto the table. âLetâs play, clown.âÂ
Buggy rolled his shoulders lazily before flashing you a dramatic wink. âDonât worry, sweetheart,â he announced loudly. âYour beloved future husband is about to commit several crimes for you.â You groaned into your hands and the crowd cheered.Â
The game lasted exactly four minutes before it devolved into absolute chaos. Honestly, you expected nothing less from Buggy. âAt last!â the gold-covered pirate shouted as the dice rolled across the velvet table. âLooks like luck finally abandoned you, clown!â The crowd leaned forward. Lantern light flickered across mountains of beli stacked between the players while fireworks exploded over the harbor behind them.Â
Buggy stared at the dice dramatically, then sighed. âYou know,â he said sadly, âI really tried to do this peacefully.âÂ
The pirate frowned. âWhat?âÂ
Buggy looked up, grinned, and snapped his fingers. The gambling table exploded. People screamed as ards, dice, and piles of money launched into the air while smoke burst upward in a violent cloud. Pirates scattered in every direction as detached Buggy hands flew through the chaos stealing wallets with terrifying efficiency.Â
âWhat the hell?!â someone yelled.Â
âHE CHEATED!âÂ
âWAS THAT A CANNON!âÂ
Buggy cackled loudly as the entire harbor erupted into panic. âRUN, SWEETHEART!âÂ
You barely had time to react before he grabbed your wrist and bolted through the screaming crowd. âYou blew up the table!âÂ
âIt was distracting!âÂ
âThatâs your solution to everything!âÂ
âAnd yet it keeps working!â Marines shouted somewhere behind you. The harbor instantly split into chaos as soldiers rushed toward the explosion while terrified civilians flooded the docks. Away from the heavily guarded ship.Â
âYou created a diversion.âÂ
Buggy looked deeply offended. âPlease. I created art.âÂ
âYouâre insane.âÂ
âAnd brilliant.â That too, unfortunately. The two of you darted between crowded festival stalls while Buggy laughed like a man having the time of his life, which he probably was. A detached hand tossed stolen coins into the air beside him like confetti.Â
âDid you rob people while running?âÂ
âMultitasking.âÂ
âBUGGY.âÂ
âWhat? They werenât using it.âÂ
Another explosion thundered behind you. You whipped around. âWas that you too?!âÂ
âFocus on the mission!âÂ
âThe mission?!â you repeated incredulously. âYou never even told me the mission!â Buggy suddenly grabbed your waist and pulled you sharply into a dark alley just as marines sprinted past the street entrance. Both of you froze as heavy footsteps thundered by while voices shouted and thhen faded.Â
As the silence settled between you two, you realized very suddenly how close he was. One arm wrapped around your waist.Your chest pressed against his.Blue hair brushing your forehead beneath the dim lantern light.Â
Buggy gazed down at you, and your heartbeat stumbled awkwardly. Then his detached hand floated into the alley carrying a stolen meat skewer. The moment shattered instantly. âSnack?â the hand offered. You burst out laughing. Buggy groaned dramatically. âOh, come on! I was having a moment!âÂ
âYou absolutely were not.âÂ
âI totally was!âÂ
âYou got interrupted by your own floating arm.âÂ
âIt lacks timing.â The hand flipped you both off and you laughed harder.Â
Buggy stared at you for a second before something softer crossed his expression, fondness. It vanished almost immediately beneath his usual grin, but you caught it. And suddenly the alley felt much smaller. Buggy cleared his throat loudly before stepping back. âRight! Important criminal business.âÂ
You crossed your arms. âYou owe me answers.âÂ
âI owe you many things. Answers are negotiable.âÂ
âBuggy.âÂ
He sighed dramatically before finally jerking his thumb toward the harbor.Â
âThat marine ship?â he said. âTheyâre transporting something valuable tonight.âÂ
âValuable how?âÂ
Buggyâs eyes glittered.Â
âTreasure-map valuable.âÂ
Ah, of course, you shouldâve known. âAnd your plan,â you said slowly, âwas to fake an engagement, start a riot, and rob marines during a city-wide festival.âÂ
Buggy puffed up proudly. âThank you.âÂ
âThat wasnât a compliment.âÂ
âIt sounded admiring.â Before you could argue, distant whistles echoed across the harbor.  Buggyâs expression sharpened instantly. âThey might have any idea of what we are after.âÂ
âMeaning?âÂ
âMeaning,â he said with sudden excitement, âweâre improvising again.âÂ
âThat phrase keeps making my life worse.â Buggy grabbed your hand before sprinting from the alley and the harbor had become complete madness now. Festival lights reflected across dark ocean water while Marines pushed through crowds searching for suspects. Smoke from the explosions drifted between buildings as pirates fled in every direction.Â
And through all of it, Buggy dragged you straight toward the restricted docks. âYou have no survival instincts!â you shouted.Â
âI have excellent survival instincts!âÂ
âYou just started a panic.âÂ
âYes, but stylishly!âÂ
âYou are insane!âÂ
âAnd youâre holding my hand voluntarily!â You immediately tried pulling away. Buggy tightened his grip with a grin. âToo late now, sweetheart.â Then he stopped abruptly near the edge of the docks and you nearly crashed into him.Â
âWhat?â Your voice died instantly. The marine ship towered above the water ahead of you, lanterns glowing along polished decks lined with armed guards.Â
And standing at the center of the dock leading aboard, was the Marine captain from the hotel. Waiting. âWell,â the captain called calmly, sword already drawn, âthat didnât take long.âÂ
Buggy clicked his tongue annoyed.  The captainâs gaze slid toward your joined hands, then narrowed. âYou planned this together.âÂ
Buggy grinned lazily. âAw, you think weâre coordinated.âÂ
The air at the docks went still in a way that didnât belong near a harbor full of chaos. Marines shouting in the distance. Festival fireworks cracking overhead. Waves slamming gently against the hull of the ship like nothing important was happening at all. Everything had narrowed down to a sword, a grin, and a hand still holding yours.Â
The Marine captainâs gaze stayed locked on the two of you. âSo it was a distraction.âÂ
Buggy the Clown tilted his head like he was genuinely offended. âA distraction?â he echoed. âThat implies I needed to do something to draw attention.âÂ
You muttered, âYou absolutely did not need help drawing attention.âÂ
âSee?â Buggy pointed at you. âSupportive fiancĂŠe.âÂ
The captainâs eyes sharpened. âDrop the act. We know youâre after the shipâs cargo.âÂ
Buggy sighed dramatically, then let go of your hand. The absence of it was immediate in a way you didnât like noticing. âOh,â Buggy said lightly, rolling his shoulders. âSo weâre skipping the banter part.â One of his detached hands drifted lazily beside him, twirling a knife between its fingers. âGood,â Buggy continued. âI hate small talk.âÂ
The captain raised his sword slightly. âSurrender.âÂ
Buggy blinked, then smiled. âYou Marines always say that part like it means something,â he said.Â
A beat of silence, then the tension broke. Buggy moved first and he was fast. Too fast for someone who usually made a performance out of every step. His detached hands splitting in multiple directions like they were choreographed to chaos itself. The captain blocked the first strike, but not the second. You barely registered the clash of metal before Buggy was already behind him.Â
âYou know what I like about festivals?â Buggy called casually.Â
The captain twisted, just barely avoiding a slash. âWhat?â the Marine snapped.Â
Buggy grinned. âEveryoneâs already yelling.âÂ
A cannon fired somewhere behind you and the dock shook. You stumbled back, and Buggyâs arm shot out, catching your wrist without looking, while still fighting. That should have scared you more. Instead, your pulse jumped for an entirely different reason.Â
His gaze flicked between you and Buggy. âYouâre not just robbing us,â he realized.Â
Buggy laughed. âIâm a pirate stealing is kind of what we do.âÂ
The captainâs expression hardened. âYouâre using them.â  Â
Buggy stopped moving, but only for second. âCareful,â he said softly. âThatâs a dangerous accusation.âÂ
The captain lifted his sword. âIs it wrong?âÂ
You looked at Buggy, really looked. Waiting for the joke, a deflection of some kind, even his normal dramatic nonsense.Â
Instead, he didnât look at the captain, no he looked at you. It was like he was checking something and was deciding something at the same time. Then he exhaled. âYeah,â Buggy said finally. âI would never use them for something as boring as a distraction.âÂ
He snapped his fingers and the dock exploded in color, confetti, smoke bombs, fireworks bursting in sudden violent beauty across the harbor. The sound swallowed everything.Â
The Marines shouted in confusion and the captain raised his arm to shield his eyes all while Buggy pulled you behind him. âMove,â he said under his breath.Â
You darted across the shaking dock as Marines scrambled through smoke and color. Buggy was holding your hand again, steady, guiding you straight toward the shipâs gangplank âYouâre enjoying this too much,â you shouted over the noise.Â
âI always enjoy winning,â he shot back.Â
âThatâs not what I meant!â Â
He glanced at you briefly. âI know.â That answer shouldnât have made your stomach twist, but it did. Behind you, the Marine captain barked orders through the chaos. Buggy stopped at the base of the ramp, causing you to almost collided with him.Â
âWhat now?â you asked quickly. Instead, he looked up at the Marine ship and then down at you.Â
âYou can leave,â he said.Â
You blinked. âWhat?âÂ
Buggy shrugged like it didnât matter. âYouâve done enough. Marines are focused on me now. You get away and maybe you donât get in trouble from Crocodile.âÂ
The words shouldâve felt like relief, but they didnât. Because he still hadnât let go of your hand. âAnd you?â You asked.Â
Buggy hesitated, then forced a smile again âIâve got a treasure map to steal.âÂ
You stared at him. There was still fireworks were still going off behind you. The harbor still burning in noise and light. Marines still shouting somewhere in the distance.Â
But right here, it was somehow quiet. âYouâre really just going to let me walk away?â you asked.Â
Buggy opened his mouth and closed it. Then laughed once, short and sharp. âDonât make this weird,â he said. But his grip tightened instead of letting go. That told you everything his mouth wasnât saying. Â
The silence between you and Buggy the Clown stretched longer than it had any right to. But right here, at the base of the Marine shipâs ramp, everything felt too still. Buggyâs grip on your hand was the only thing keeping you anchored in it. âYou can leave,â he repeated, like saying it again might make it easier. âSeriously. No oneâs stopping you.âÂ
You looked at him, really looked. âIâm not walking away,â you said.Â
For a second, nothing happened. Buggy just stared at you. Like his brain had stopped working properly. Then he scoffed, too fast. âTch. Donât get sentimental,â he said, but his voice came out slightly wrong. âThis isnât a romance. Itâs a very profitable misunderstanding.âÂ
You squeezed his hand. âYou were going to let me go,â you said quietly.Â
âThat was the plan,â he snapped immediately.Â
âWhy?âÂ
Buggy looked away toward the ship instead, because looking at you seemed harder now.Â
âBecause you weren't supposed to be a part of this,â he said finally. The wind shifted across the dock, carrying smoke and salt and the faint noise of collapsing festival lights.Â
You didnât let go and neither did he. âSo thatâs it?â you asked. âYou just drop me here like I was never part of it?âÂ
Buggyâs smile twitched. âHey,â he said sharply, âyou got a very memorable experience.âÂ
âThatâs not an answer.âÂ
âItâs a good one.âÂ
âBuggy.âÂ
âThis is the safest option for you.â That finally snapped something in you.Â
You stepped closer, pulling him closer to you. âYou didnât let go when they showed up,â you said. Buggy went still. âYou didnât let go in the alley,â you continued. Still nothing. âAnd youâre still holding my hand right now.â That did it, his fingers tightened once, just slightly and then loosened like he realized itÂ
âYeah,â he said quietly.Â
You softened your voice. âSo why are you acting like Iâm not already part of it?âÂ
âYou donât get it,â he muttered.Â
âThen explain it.âÂ
He let out a sharp laugh. âOh, sure. âHey, come risk your life for a clown with a bounty the size of a kingdom because heâs fun at parties.â Technically Crocodile is your captain not me, I canât order you are around like that.âÂ
âIt sounds like youâre deciding for me.âÂ
Buggyâs jaw tightened. âIâm not deciding for you,â he snapped. âIâm trying to make sure you donât regret it later.âÂ
You tilted your head slightly. âRegret what?âÂ
Buggy didnât answer immediately, the Marine ship creaked above you, massive and waiting. Behind it, the harbor continued to burn with chaos heâd created. And still, he looked at you like this was the hardest thing heâd done all night. âThis,â he said finally, quieter. âMe.âÂ
You stared at him, then at your joined hands. âYou really think Iâm just going to walk away because you told me to?â you asked.Â
Buggyâs eye narrowed slightly. âPeople usually do.âÂ
âYeah,â you said. âIâm noticing a pattern of you assuming Iâm like those people.â You stepped even closer now, voice lowering. âYou made a fake fiancĂŠ out of me in a casino full of marines,â you said. âI kissed you in front of the marines and you dragged me into a riot that you caused. â Buggy stiffened slightly at kiss part.  âAnd now youâre telling me Iâm not part of this?â you finished. âThat sounds like Iâm already in it.âÂ
Buggyâs expression cracked. âYeah, well,â he muttered, âthatâs kind of the problem.âÂ
You raised an eyebrow. âFor who?âÂ
He finally looked at you properly again. âFor me, I donât want anything to happen to you.â Â
Your breath caught.Â
âBuggy...â He kissed you before you could say anything else. It wasnât smooth but it wasnât like to hotel. It felt almost frustrated, like heâd been trying not to do this for hours and finally lost the fight with himself. One hand caught your waist hard enough to pull you against him while the other stayed tangled with your fingers like he still refused to let go completely.Â
Fireworks burst somewhere above the harbor, color flashing across closed eyes and smoke-heavy air, but the sound felt distant compared to the sharp jump of your heartbeat. And somehow beneath all the chaos, there was hesitation there too, like he still expected you to pull away.Â
But you didnât, the second you kissed him back, something in him broke completely. His grip tightened. A quiet sound caught in his throat before he buried it by kissing you harder, all heat and adrenaline and months worth of carefully avoided feelings collapsing at once.Â
When he finally pulled back, it wasnât far. His forehead nearly rested against yours, breath uneven. â.Well,â Buggy muttered after a second, voice rougher than before. âThat probably made things worse.âÂ
You stared at him. âFor the Marines?â you asked softly.Â
Buggy grinned again at last, âNo,â he said. âFor me, but that's okay.â A cannon fired somewhere behind you, snapping your two attention back to the situation at hand. âSince youâre staying, you stick with me and one rule,â Buggy said, pointing dramatically at you. âDonât die.âÂ
âThatâs your rule?âÂ
âItâs a very important rule.â You shook your head slightly, despite the smile threatening to show.Â
Buggy glanced at the ship again and then back at you, giving you a quick kiss. âLetâs get that map.âÂ
~~~~~ Bonus Scene ~~~~~Â
Crocodile didnât look up from his papers when you walked in. âSit,â said Crocodile flatly. You sat down quickly, not wanting to upset him. A cigar glowed faintly between his fingers. He flipped a page, then another and the silence stretched. So, you waited.Â
Finally, âExplain,â Crocodile said.Â
You blinked. âExplain what?âÂ
That earned you a slow, tired glance. The kind that suggested he already knew everything and was just deciding how annoyed he should be about it. âThis,â he said. He dropped the newspaper onto the desk and slid across polished wood.Â
The headline read âBUGGY THE CLOWN HAS LOVER?â Underneath was a picture of the two of you kissing on the dock. You couldnât completely tell it was you, but Crocodile knew. Hell, when you two made it back, Buggy was telling everyone you two were together. Â
You exhaled through your nose. âOh.âÂ
Crocodileâs eyes narrowed slightly. âOh,â he repeated.Â
You gestured vaguely. âWell, you heard we got together, I just didnât realize this was going around in the newsâÂ
Crocodile leaned back slightly in his chair as sand began to swirl around him. âSo,â he said slowly, âwill the clownâs personal life affect my assistant's ability to perform their job.âÂ
You hesitated, then decided honesty was safer, âIt shouldnât impact my ability to perform my job.â You said carefully.Â
Crocodile tapped ash into a tray. âYou are my assistant,â he said.Â
âYes.âÂ
âAnd you are also on my payroll.âÂ
âYes.âÂ
âAnd you are currently classified as âBuggyâs lover in marine intelligence reports.âÂ
You sighed. âWell, it is accurate.âÂ
Crocodile stared at you for a long moment, and his cigar embers glowed faintly. âYou truly like that idiot clown?â Crocodile asked.Â
You didnât hesitate this time. âYes.âÂ
Another long silence, then Crocodile leaned back again, exhaling slowly. âOf all the variables I expected to impact the Cross Guild,â he muttered, âyour emotional entanglement with that clown was not one of them. I honestly thought it would have been Mihawk, he seemed more your type.âÂ
You smile lightly, âBuggy would be offended by that.âÂ
âI am not concerned with offending him.â Crocodile said immediately.Â
You studied him. âSo, am I in trouble?âÂ
That got a pause, Crocodile looked at you for a long moment debating his answer, âFor now no,â he said. âBut the clown will not interfere with any of the assignments that I give you.âÂ
You nodded; that was totally fair.Â
Crocodile stood and with that the meeting was over. As you reached the door, his voice stopped you. âOne more thing.â You turned, Crocodile didnât look at you directly as he reached for another cigar, âIf the clown causes you any troubles let me know.âÂ
âThank you boss.âÂ
Pet Names Buggy Uses!
Word Count: 0.6k Warnings: Slight sexual themes but nothing explicit Genre: Romantic
âââââââââââââââââââââââ
Doll face
Ohh, he loves this one. A personal favorite of his and one that he'd use very intentionally. He'll mostly use it for when you truly outdo yourself. He loves to save it for when you do your makeup for a show or put of one of those dazzling outfits he gifts you.
"Look at you, doll face. Aren't you just perfect."
He also loves using it when you make him especially proud. Like when you successfully steal something valuable or take a hostage that could prove useful.
"Thank you, doll face~"
One of the quirks that come along with this pet name is that he'll gently grip your jaw with one of his hands while calling you it. As if he wants to look at your face fully when talking to you in these moments.
Baby/Babes
This is the pet name he'll call you the most. It just slips from his mouth so seamlessly, sometimes he doesn't even realize when he's calling you that.
"Listen to that, baby, listen to all those cheers. All of them for us."
He'll call you by this pet name before you guys even officially start dating. It's so common for him you'd hardly think anything of it.
"Night babes."
You'll notice that they really start spewing from his mouth when he's nervous about something. He'll just start calling everyone around him baby when he's in this state.
Sweetheart/Sweetness
He only really uses this one when he's annoyed with you. It's sickening in the way he drawls it out on his tongue. Like heâs trying to gain a reaction from you in some way. Or that he feels some sort of twisted authority over you when he calls you that.
"Better watch your mouth, sweetheart."
He'd probably like to use this when he's domming you too. I imagine he's a huge tease in bed and would LOVE to use this undermining tone with you in hopes of getting under your skin.
"What's wrong, sweetness? Thought you liked this kinda stuff."
Only downside with this pet name is that he'd melt completely if you used it on him. Either immediately becoming subby for you and listening to you every command or becoming so embarrassed that he explodes into a wave of flustered rage.
Treasure
He likes to say this one when he's being sarcastic. He calls you this a lot when you mess something up for him and he wants to be all bratty and whiny about it.
"Aren't you just a treasure. Wanna say that again?"
Sometimes you didn't even do anything in particular to annoy him and he'll call you this just because he's annoyed in general.
"I'm not in the mood for this right now, treasure."
He's always incredibly snarky with this one. He usually sneering at you and flexing his hands when saying it to you. But he's still trying to be sweet to you, even if it doesn't always come off that way.
Dearest/Dear
He uses this one a lot during slow mornings or quiet nights. He likes to use this pet name if your most domestic moments, such as when he's wiping his makeup off or groggily getting out of bed after a long night of partying.
"Can you grab that for me, dearest?"
He likes being able to slow down every once in a while and experience some form of normalcy with you. The thought of settling down might scare him but he's feels the most calm when he can pretend for a few hours.
âGetting me coffee, hm? What a dear.â
Pretending is what heâs best at and boy does he love to pretend with you. You'll know he's seeking a soft and gentle type of love when he calls you this. Just put on this different act for him, just for a moment.
Yearner!Buggy
Word Count: 0.5k Warnings: Yandereish? Genre: Romantic? Pinning?
âââââââââââââââââââââââ
Buggyâs an accidental yearner. His eyes always following you when you pass him by, trailing over your body and memorizing the way you walk as if itâs the last time heâll ever get to acknowledge it. It's accidental in the way that he's unaware of the softness that overtakes his gaze when he looks at you for too long. His lips pursing just barely as he admires you from afar while thoughts of what the two of you could be swim in his mind.
Itâs almost too quick the way his gloved hands jolt out to grab you. One pushing on your shoulder and the other gently gripping your waist as he pulls you more toward him instead. Disregard everything youâre doing and just look at him the same way he looks at you for just the slightest second. Give him any sign that you think of him even a fraction as fondly as he thinks of you. Give him more ammunition for his deranged fantasies of you. Let him daydream of you forever, if only you'd love him with the same intensity. If only you'd look at him instead of whatever it is you always seem to be preoccupied with.
Itâs almost pathetic how his eyes stare into yours after he forces you to look at him, one of his hands gripping your jaw and ensuring you're close. Thereâs a desperate plea held deep within him as if heâs silently begging you not to leave him. Just stay and let him hold you a while. Let him just sit in this horrific feeling of need and desire until you leave him again to be distracted with something else. It disgusts him how little attention you give him at any given moment and if he had it his way, you'd never look at anything other than him ever again. If your eyes weren't so beautiful he might've considered blinding you so that you truly could never look at anything else. So that he was the last thing you saw before going blind. Oh, how he'd love to be the freshest memory in your mind for the rest of eternity. But he could never dream of doing something like that to you.
Goodness, he almost hates you for it. He hates you for how easily you seem to forget about him and how often he's always thinking of you. You're always talking to someone else, someone far less interesting than him. He'll trail a finger down your lips with a reverence he only keeps for you, gently tracing your features before roughly shoving you away from him. Freeing you from his hold and allowing you to go back to doing whatever it is you want. Not like he'd care of course, so don't tell him. He hates you, remember? So just leave like you usually do when it comes to him. Go busy yourself with something else and just let him watch from afar. Let him burn with thoughts of you until he finally gets fed up enough to do something about it.
Ngl the fact that Luffy considers Buggy to be just some fuck-ass loser is SO fucking funny to me like every time i think about it Iâm tickled. Like throughout the entire story he either considers you 1)a friend or 2)a threat to his/his friendsâ freedom that needs to be taken outâŚand then theres Buggy. The, âoh, that guyâŚâ guy. Assigned Moronâ˘ď¸ by a laffy taffy, literally kill me.
