In The Hidden Places

With a lite breakfast of jam spread over toast and a modest glass of orange juice, Bugsy left his home (carefully leaving a note for his parents about his whereabouts) and headed to the best viewing spot he knew of: a small hill dotted with tiny flowers.

Today was a special day,  for a couple of months Bugsy had kept a scrutinizing eye on a small thicket of Ariados eggs, today they were supposed to be hatching if last night’s data was to be believed! Today’s goal was to capture a newly hatched Spinarak and conduct research on its web-weaving glands, if he could solve the mystery, well, the discovery could put him on the map, officially!

It was already 8AM when he finally found the small patch of eggs, several Ariados were dutifully watching over their young. Bugsy slowly climbed up a small tree and took out his notebook, carefully jotting down the smallest of changes; at 8:43AM the sun’s light was already filtering through the leaves. As he was sketching a quick picture of an Ariados chattering with its mandibles it happened!

As if they were all synchronized, a thousand hundred newly-hatched Spinarak started to eke their way out of their eggs, some of the more smarter ones were already weaving paper-thin strands of web. Bugsy watched in awe as a small breeze swept some of the youngling spiders away before he realized: his research! With his bug net in hand he scurried to keep up with the wayward Pokemon…

11:32AM. He lost track of all but one Spinarak as it lazily floated high above the reach of his bug net, exhausted and sweaty, Bugsy was about to call it quits when, a cooling draft of wind tugged the sailing Spinarak down to the earth, with renewed heart Bugsy chased it down until it landed on the shoulder of a stranger. Taken aback for but a moment, Bugsy readied his net and steadied his hand before issuing a fair warning.

“Don’t move! There’s a Spinarak on your shoulder and I’m about to catch it!”
