Bud’s Light’s Tumblr-ites Tours

My wife has a 4-day weekend coming up, so we have actually made reservations to spend it on Cape Cod. First time we will have taken a vacation since our trip to Wales in 2019.

The last time we were on the Cape was way back in the last century, before we had kids. Any suggestions as to where we should go, what we should do? Since it will be a holiday weekend, we are not planning on visiting Provincetown, thinking there will simply be too many people.

Would be a nice driving tour someday.

I haven’t been here yet, but this place comes highly recommended. I can though personally vouch for their delicious maple syrup. Might be a good place to meet. After all, who doesn’t like pancakes?

I know where some of you live, but not everybody, so I don’t really know what would be a convenient spot to get together.

The circles have a radius of one MassPike (about 150 miles). They are centered on Montreal - Albany, NY - Manchester, NH - Providence, RI - NYC - Philadelphia, PA - Washington, DC.

It looks to me like NYC may be the epicenter geography wise. Please, all suggestions and comments (good or critical) are welcome.

Looks like this meetup lark might have some traction, so let’s get a start on the planning.

Who is invited?

As far as I am concerned, everyone and everyone. Humans, pets, family, etc. Since I am not connected with everyone, if there is a fellow Tumblrite you would like to invite, please feel free to get the word out.

Where?

Even though the Albany area is the center of everything:

I AM NOT suggesting we get together there. Repeat, AM NOT. If that is what you all decide I’ll go along, but the Albany area is BORING! I would suggest a place with photogenic scenery and a good restaurant. Like this for example:

I am self-employed and willing to travel almost anywhere, but perhaps “travel almost anywhere” is not so easy for other folks. Please discuss and we’ll decide.

Now, I understand if you don’t want to broadcast where you live to the whole wide world, so I want to be careful with what is posted here. I would even go so far as to make this blog private. Please discuss.

PS A couple of people who don’t follow this blog commented on the last post, so I am tagging you here. I hope you don’t mind.

Brunch anyone?

The Castle Hill Inn in Newport, Rhode Island, USA comes VERY highly recommended. 

Started at the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market. Cranberry cornmeal scones, lots of veggies and fruit, a bag of Lucy Jo’s freshly roasted and ground dark roast coffee. And:

Delicious in coffee.

Then across the river to one of the best used bookstores around: Dove and Hudson, to sell some books this time. We’ve been cleaning out our bookshelves and took almost 200 books over for them to look at. (Don’t worry, we still have plenty). He bought over 30, mostly some of Ann’s history books that she didn’t want anymore. The rest we donated to our town library for their annual fundraiser. 

Then lunch at another favorite place:

Grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch, plus some cheese to take home with us. Also, in the category of, I tried this so that you don’t have to: 

Our first stop in Wales. Gracious hosts, delicious breakfasts, comfortable and quiet rooms. Within walking distance of Tintern Abbey.

I had heard a lot about the traditional UK breakfast and I was not disappointed.
