Shot for a 1974 #Esquire magazine profile of prankster philanthropist, Stanley Marsh 3, this #publicart installation by @chiplord and Doug Michels’ avant-garde art collective Ant Farm seemed like a take-off of March of Progress – the famous 1965 illustration detailing the evolution of early man, from monkey to homo sapiens – but with ten successive models of #Cadillac cars, as a monument to the post-war evolution of the American Dream. Each vehicle is embedded into the ground close to #Route66 and at the same angle as the sides of Egypt’s Great Pyramids of Giza. The installation later inspired the title of a @springsteen song. Set photograph from Fellini Satyricon. In 1968, Bud was sent on assignment by the Saturday Evening Post to photograph former Ziegfeld girl and Chaplin star, Paulette Goddard, in Rome. He was given a one-way ticket to Italy and, on arriving there, discovered the Post had gone out of business.
