Clinical Trial Dashboard
Help Project Team Leads (PTLs) and Chief Operations Officers (COOs) more effectively manage both the time and budgets of their respective clinical trials.
Role: Designer & Researcher
Background: The inception of this project emerged from a 5-day Design Sprint in Summer of 2018 and grew into a fully funded effort involving design, research, and front-end and back-end development teams.
The Challenge: Current state systems and data are greatly fragmented and require a lot of “data-stitching”. Data is not set up for rapid insight generation and current solutions are not very visual, thus making it hard to answer a variety of Clinical Trial portfolio questions easily. There isn’t always a trusted source of data or multiple “golden” sources.
The Goal: Create an accessible/intuitive source of information at the portfolio and project level. Interactive solutions that provides an empowering solution to data visualization.
The Process: - Empathy interviews with 8 participants - Concept testing - Affinity mapping of notes - Rapid iterations - Usability testing with clickable prototype - Quick and visual one-sheets to relay feedback and progress to leadership (see left for example)
Emerging Themes from Research: - Distrust of existing data - The ability to dive deeper, but start with a high level view of the portfolio - Funneling data from the usual 5+ systems into one single portal - Ability to answer questions quickly
The Outcome: - Users reported a 49% increase in satisfaction compared to the current systems they’re using (based on SUS score metrics) - Development and design continues to this day, fueled by user input. The portal went live in early 2020 and was met with positive feedback.
