You might think I'm being dramatic but everything I've written is very true. This is a non-negotiable essential for me and I would die without it. Laugh all you want. When I turn the key in the ignition a thousand-and-one sonic hands reach out the subwoofer and touch me in all places whispering Bryn, Bryn, Bryn, and then they play the Smashing Pumpkins and I smile irrevocably.

This is essentially how we got from then to now, which can be separated into two parts: before you and the years of you. And what a terrific tale it is--it's almost sexy. Nucleosynthesis gets my heart all racing. But never mind that. I had to abridge the story in order to get it to you on time. There are a lot of things I missed! Baryon asymmetry, cluster formation, solar winds, plate tectonics, abiogenesis, recorded history... do you want me to go on?

Though we like to represent it as such, the Big Bang was not an explosion, just the rapid expansion of a single point of space--containing every part of the universe as we know it. That means--you guessed it--you and I were there! A long time ago, but still, parts of me and you were in that initial expansion. I can still feel waves of aftershock from way back then rocking my body on occasion. Love can sometimes feel all too much like those earliest seconds... millions of high-speed collisions that sometimes make new things, and sometimes, they don't. But, when they do make something, it's often quite beautiful to behold.

This is a little reflection of what we did last Friday, when we went scuba diving at the Laguna. The water is so crystal clear during the day--it was scary to go at night! I think scuba rules dictate that that's NOT allowed? The light from those bioluminescent fishes was a great help, though. They're like a night-light when I sleep in my sea-bed, warding away those scarier things that rise from the depths.

Tonight, it was Sam's last night in town, so we went out and got pretty drunk together, and Mike drove me home after we played with his kitten. My parents don't like when I'm loud past midnight, so I very quietly made myself dinner. My dogs bark whenever I break curfew, and it's my parents' way of knowing, "Oh, that's not an intruder, it's Bryn coming home too late again."

This is a little poetry I wrote based on something that really happened to me earlier this year. It was super scary at the time and I ended up sustaining second-degree burns on my wrists and forearms, but I think that it can be written off as a learning experience. I found out later that the Light's name was Airiel, which I think is a very pretty name :). I also am happy to report that I moved out of that house and that landlord is no longer menacing me.
