But that’s them. That’s not Naomi, bless her terrifying heart. “I don’t see why I need to stop what I’m doing,” she says. “I’m not living for what other people think of me.” Northing’s really changed that much, is what she’s saying. Especially not her. She’s still got that skin and that hair and that tiger who lives behind her eyes. She still Naomi FUCKING Campbell. So where is Naomi now? She’s off to her next shoot is where.

I may be a captive audience. I am a fan and I do work in advertising, however, this ad that appeared on X Factor UK this past weekend is pure brilliance. A 30 second ad of white type on black with an almost instantly recognizable voice. No logo, no information, no call to action.

 We’ve been anticipating hearing your voice. I’m glad you called and the lyrics were perfection. There may not be a more hanging example of an ellipsis in TV advertising.

It was brilliant because it perfectly utilized the TV medium. It also combined broadcast and social in a meaningful way. For this to have worked it needed TV, for only on TV could this ad be anonymous. Trying to be anonymous on social will get you not to be noticed. Adele’s team let her brand (her voice) power this whole execution. And then left it to her fans to power it and question it through social media. Brilliant strategy.

What an example of not only the power of brand but the power of channel and using them right. I also loved the fact that Adele’s “people” declined to comment. That is the definition of a teaser. Letting it play out and not really needing to confirm anything.

It has been years and I can’t wait to go over everything...
