Fun facts about Wes: his lungs, liver and stomach are artificial. He's pretty purposely vague about how he came to be working for Breezie, as he's always vague or outright lying about MOST of his life,
but how he actually ended up in a life contract with her and her family is that he was mortally wounded by the very gangs that wanted him dead.
"you're nobody til somebody wants you dead, and the list it grows and grows and grows and grows!"
You scam enough big time baddies, you end up on a hit list. He was pretty well known around Westopolis and the Empire City underground by then, moving from place to place wasn't keeping him safe anymore. Plus, he was no good at living subtly.
One afternoon, a yummy lunch became gunshots, people screaming, red all over his hands and suit. Wes running in pure panic until he couldn't run anymore, screaming for help as the blood wouldn't clot, he was going to die. And then his voice ran dry.
He'd wake up in a really, REALLY fancy suite, with badniks around him. Uh oh. But he also notices he's all bandaged up and is advised NOT to move.
That's when his new boss walks in with a contract, telling him in exchange for his safety and also those New Artificial Organs, he'd make use of his natural charm, of his fast talking, clever weasel mouth of his. She gets him the radio gig, the tv show. He'd be untouchable, but he'd also be the property of BreezTV.
"We're the only ones still smiling in this place!"
Don't worry, it's not so bad. He still has his freedom, but if he tries to quit, well, they'll be needing those organs back, and she can't guarantee the gangs will stay off him.
Wes, with very little spine, immediately signs on. His soul doesn't stand for much, what did it matter what he signed it away for? As long as he got money, fame, the high life... Hey. That sounded just fine.
And now he probably couldn't die from his bad habits, anyway. At least, the recreational kind.
"Start his own business... Tax-free, it's religious."
Now, I'm not sure the extent of abilities that the Zeti have when controlling machinery. If it's just AI or what, but Wes is the one who sold the Conch to Eggman. And that was BEFORE he got shot up.
"I'm a little boy what's gonna be getting his fingers burned but I see this lesson's gotta, gotta be learned!"
You can probably understand why he's so petrified of them now. Dig?
