Hi. I'm going to write down my thought process during this piece because this is my blog and I do whatever I want
Gresse is such a strange character to me because the first iteration of this version/personalization of Jesse started from a silly vc "roleplay" that I did a year ago during the beginning of December, 2024. Like days before I even thought up the concept of BIA being a full-on AU. I didn't really put much thought into what he was like because at first he was just a Jesse that I put my personal spin on. Then Crest and I started talking more often and talking about Resse and Gresse more often--that begged the question, "What made Gresse different than Resse?"
So I thought about it. I looked at how people in the fandom made Green suspenders express himself and so I just took inspiration from that. Then came all his physical traits. The rounder features, chubby bod, short but taller than Resse, hairy, scruffy, his moles and his snaggletooth; Lots of these things I took from myself (besides the chubby part). Then his mental traits and his thought processes. Shy, cautious, nervous, quick to question things & easy to irritate. Before the Witherstorm, the only thing he knew how to do without second guessing himself was take care of Reuben, tend to his and Resse's farm, and hide behind Resse when life was too much to bear. Ever since Jesse split, Gresse came out of that with irrational thinking and emotions that were way too big for his own body. This can be explored on the google doc I think idk. As Brothers In Arms started to take a serious turn, so did my focus on what Gresse's motives are and what he was like overall.
But--it's been really clear to me that I started self projecting onto him a lot. Like a lot, 85% of his traits are just mine with a small spin on them and. BUT thankfully Jesse is a very fluid character & bless Telltale for the different in-game responses because any perception of Jesse is far from mischaracterization in a way...I just so happened to stick with the sweet heroic type.
Strangely enough, and I'm not embarrassed talking about this (in hopes that this post doesn't get any traction at all lol) but in a way he's an outlet to me. I'm a very anxious person with an unfortunate flip of having insane hotheadedness and stupid crazy anger issues. I wanted to express that through his gentle nature and the worsening state of 'The Thing'. Dating from Season 1 all the way to Season 3, the only official time its happened were three times in private, on the bridge during the fight with Aiden, and during Hadrian's games. What's special about The Thing is that it changes the brother's bodies very very slightly after its over, and once it happens once--its bound to happen again. After the games, it just got worse and worse. Getting more frequent in places where it shouldn't have even happened. But before that, it just used to be their eyes turning purple when they get angry. Unfortunate for Gresse, since he's way more snappy than Resse's ever been, this happened literally allllll the time--poor guy would close his eyes and leave the room out of embarrassment and fear before resolving what made him upset in the first place. How this traces back to me? Well, it just represents how it was never this bad. Of course I'm still a kind person at heart or whatever but I've experienced my own fair share of utter bullshit that greatly affected the way I reacted to things. My eyes don't turn purple though because I'm not an Ender-anything hybrid, haha. Anyway, it's not actually going to be a super huge part of the storyline--THOUGH, It's a big thing that scares the brothers and messes with their heads as well as being a motivator for going to Acacia Valley in the first place. It like. Only happens once or twice in the fanfic any other time is stopping it from happening.
Carrying on from that, I sometimes wish that we'd figured out what the story besides the main seasons would have been way way earlier. I'm perfectly fine with where Crest and I sit at with the current pacing of the story and what ideas we're going with. Though, the development that we've had with this AU contributes to the theme of what it means to be human. That's explored through the eyes of Resse and Gresse as overtime they realize that they aren't as human as everyone else in Beacontown seems to be. With that in mind, its a sentiment I came up with because it's something I can heavily relate to as someone who is queer and undiagnosed.
Gresse as a character just means a lot to me. Truthfully he's helped me figure things out about myself that I've never considered before. I love him as much as I love the entire AU and my friendship with Crestfallen/Cooper. He's an amazing guy and a wonderful artist...I'm entirely grateful that I turned into an important person in his life. Could you imagine my humble beginnings as a fan of his animations? It just makes me think I guess lol
So thank you, Beacontown discord server that got deleted because of the dork server owner having a public mental breakdown. If I was never there before it was utterly destroyed, then Brothers In Arms would have never existed. If it didn't--I dunno where in life I would be, honest.

"Thanks for sticking with me for the picture tour! I hope you learned something new about Abnormaville, and I certainly hope you had fun! If you didn't, then come back next year! Our exhibits change all the time.
"The last stop on our tour is none other than our extensive museum. You've seen it, you've walked right by it--now it's time to actually go inside! The museum here has three floors (two, technically): the ground floor, which is the outside; the first floor, which is localized around the Abyss; and the second floor. What's the Abyss, you ask? Well, in the very center of the town is a giant missing chunk that extends all the way down to the Void. It seems as though anomalies are more common to appear over time within a certain vicinity of the Abyss, with less and less appearing the further out you get. Nobody's really sure why this is the case, but it is! Careful not to lean over the edge or you just may fall in! (For legal reasons, this is a joke. We have fencing.)
Outside, you can find exhibits based around anomalies. Some, you may be familiar with--such as brown cows and the Day Terrors we visited earlier--but others may be more foreign to you. On the first floor, the primary focus is on normal exploration: end cities, amethyst geodes, and mineshafts, to name a few. Some of our exhibits are still works-in-progress, so I apologize for that. We also have statues of the Warden, a Wither, the Witherstorm, and the Ender Dragon.
The second floor revolves around urban legends and land anomalies. You can find exhibits on the Farlands and the Barlands here, as well as other fun mythos like the Killer Rabbit and the Aether! I won't spoil too much, so take a look for yourself!
The museum is open from midday to midnight. You can get day tickets from Terry at the check-in desk."
"Our library here is nearly as old as the town itself. Although our primary focus is tourism, history is a huge part of Abnormaville! We keep careful records of every anomaly, and entries date back to over a century ago. Alongside Abnormaville's history, we also have non-fiction and fiction entries--including real memoirs that have been donated to us--regarding other infamous events and figures, such as the Wither Storm and the Admins. Most of our books are in English, but we also have some in Spanish, French, Russian, Villagerese, Standard Galactic, and a select few others. Be sure to ask the librarian for any translations you require.
Aside from history, you can also find your standard library genres here: fantasy, sci-fi, historical fiction... anything you can think of, really! Feel free to check out a book for on-the-go reading or stay and indulge instead.
The library is designed to both entrance and provide a comfortable atmosphere. Primarily made of prismarine and jungle wood, it was a very delicate thing to build, and some find it to be the nicest building in the entire town! The giant window and glass ceiling provide ample sunlight for seeing the pages in your book and display the stars once the sun sets, giving a natural feel to your afternoon reading."

It only grew louder. It only tore harder. Every fold in her brain unraveled and shredded and forced itself back together again. Every millisecond that passed was an eternity of suffering. Like a flower she wilted and like a sprout she blossomed—bloom, wilt, bloom, will, bloom, wilt. It was endless, it was wretched. There were others that suffered too, unraveling at the seams and reconstructing in ways they weren’t supposed to.

It was all collapsing all at once. She knew why; She knew why more than anyone else ever would ever again. She was collapsing all at once, but somehow she could still piece parts of her brain back together enough to confirm that the end was here. The end was there.
It was everywhere.

It couldn’t.
It wouldn't.

But then it all stopped.

But then somehow feeling slowly returned to her fingertips, somehow she could taste grime on her tongue again. Was that all just a dream? Was the cataclysm just a rouse of her skittish mind?

She got up, walking around like a clockwork doll mindlessly. At least she thought she was–she felt possessed, taken ahold by some force unseen. She pressed her hands against her chest, feeling around and fidgeting with the buttons on her button-up shirt. She stared out at the horizon and touched her head of wavy hair; She did not like this. This was far beyond foreign.

It was, yes. The influx of hues she could suddenly perceive was much different than the dullness of the vision she owned before all of this. Full of color and life she never dared to see; she never needed to see. She only focused on her egg, she needed to. The last faces she saw, she cannot remember. Only a flash of light, only a scourge of pain, only the darkness.
But this moment was fresh–this moment was…
Brand new.
She was waiting for something, pacing and touching her hair. Something was happening—she felt a flood of differences fill the absence of a form, it started to get much brighter than it was before. A flash of white obscured her vision.
Then a second breath she felt.
She could see again, her chest rose and fell with every breath of life she took. She started to realize it wasn’t her breath; These were not her hands; This was not her body, neither of them were. It was invasive, disgusting. She felt spread apart and scattered across the emptiness like shards of broken glass. She could see out of four eyes at once—she had two pairs of plantigrade feet on the grass of the wood. She could feel from two pairs of hands, and she got to take a good look at herself. Everything was doubled and she felt all these senses from the world in a pair. Why? What was the purpose of this? What did she do to deserve such a fate?

Was she met face-to-face with a twisted rendition of herself? No. With strangers–creatures unlike herself–creatures lower than herself. But she felt, touched, tasted, smelt, and heard everything that they did. There was too much to perceive, too much to gather, too much to process. A name came to mind. Jesse. New ones were fabricated at once. Resse; Gresse. They smiled at each other and she watched it from both of their eyes. She hated every second of it.

Her thunderous growls and roars were drowned out by fraternal affections. The two could not hear her; they could not see her; they did not feel the way she felt. The boys didn’t know anything except for the ground beneath them and her fingers that wrapped around one another. They looked at each other with a joy that she could not share. She wanted to go back to her domain, back to her hatchling that has yet to bite into a chorus fruit. She was yet to reverse the damage done by humanity and its carelessness. Now she sat between these naive, childlike newspawns and rotted in the nothingness she was confined to.

"Here's where all of our permanent residents stay. Of course, there is more housing outside the gates; only the residential housing inside of Abnormaville is a spot on the tour, as those outside prefer not to interact with tourists. On these paths you can meet all of our anomalous residents--so much as they allow it--and ask all your burning questions you've been preparing since you've walked in the gates. Be polite! The people here are just as human as you are.
Right beside the housing are the community builds. As these residents are permanent, I made sure they had plenty of room to build whatever they liked. We've got wool statues, redstone contraptions, and fun mechanical wonders everywhere! Our residents have also enjoyed helping with other builds in-town, such as the mob grinder and the greenhouse. You'll find builds here from familiar faces such as Laura, Winifred, and Nolan, among many others.
