"Long story short, work was interesting today…" Spencer said, sitting down on the couch. "I got abducted, beaten, and rescued by my team in under seven hours."
He didn’t like admitting it, but there wasn’t any point in hiding what had happened… He figured Nora would ask about it, anyway.
"Ah, getting you to the doctor. See? That’s something I know I can do." Nora grinned, but when he said it was nice to have someone concerned, she laughed quietly, looking down. "Yeah, I’m good at being worried, so you can count on me for that. I, uh, I want you to be okay."
Nora straightened up, going to get a few pillows and a blanket for Spencer.
"Here, if you wanna be stationary you at least ought to be comfortable. You need anything else let me know. And…well, I’m probably gonna be annoying and check on you, too."
"Thank you." He said cheerfully as she gave him the pillows and blanket. "I really am fine, though. And it’s kind of late, anyway. Isn’t sleep a thing you should be getting?"
He wanted to get up and clean himself off, not wanting to get blood on the furniture and bedding, but it also really hurt to move. There was no point in doing anything, so he chose to remain on the couch.
"Uh," Nora didn't look right at Spencer, shifting from one foot to the other. "Actually work is sort of a thing I have to do." Of course she hadn't known this was going to happen when she planned to finish up her job tonight, but she had. The benefit of working on her own was that she could reschedule, and she would at a word from Spencer, but she could almost guess he would do better without her there fussing over him.
"Will you be okay...-er, what I mean is, if I go, will you promise to call me if you need anything? Like, if you're in the mood for a sandwich and you don't feel like makin' one, I'd like it if you called me." Now she glanced up at him, offering a sheepish smile.

"I wouldn’t have any other. Tried one before her, an’…let’s just say that led to how it is now." Mal said carefully, not wanting to dwell too much on the way he’d met Kaylee. "She’s the best mechanic floatin’ though, an’ a pleasure to be around. Usually it’s her gettin’ passengers." He continued, smiling for a moment as he thought of her cheerful disposition. He led Nora through to the passenger bunks, stopping in front of one.
"Things have a way of workin' themselves out, most of the time." Nora nodded, before she turned her gaze to the bunk. She wasn't picky about where she stayed, she'd camped out on the ground before, but it looked comfortable enough. "I guess this is where I'll be, then? Thanks for showin' me the way, Captain. I look forward to staying on board."

Where can we plant the garden? I’m thinking a lemon tree in the middle, because, when they’re full and ripe and I’m just drunk enough, I’ll look out the window and think that light can grow on trees. How do you feel about a pond? Lily pads and everything. Maybe some real fish to swim around in it. I can paint them, even though I’m terrible at it. I want the cottage. I want the green grass and the tomato plants. I want the peace in you; the front porch rocking chair lullaby; our cricket legs rubbing together under the covers. We can’t have it all. I know that, but humor me. We can’t have it all, but we can have most of it. A sliver of it, at best, and that might be okay. A lemon tree, definitely. Write that down. A bench to kiss you on. A kitchen with too many windows. I know you’ve heard this story before, but that doesn’t make it any less beautiful. Come on, put a flower in my hair. Bake that apple pie recipe that your mother gave to you. I don’t care about the dream of it, just hold the spoon out for me and let me taste it.
