BronyCon: Better Together
When BronyCon started six years ago, it was an oddityâan opportunity for unlikely fans to get together and unabashedly celebrate something they loved. Since then weâve grown, but the heart of our event has never changed.Â
Every year since, thousands of friends have come together. Pastel horses are how so many of us have met, but we have built lasting friendships that span much more.
BronyCon is, first and foremost, a My Little Pony convention. Itâs a fact our staff, our guests, our vendors, our musicians and everyone else who attend it are passionate about. Weâve always strived to be of the fandom, by the fandom and for the fandom.
That said our staff has always actively tried to stay on the cutting edge. Trying new things leads to the innovation that keeps BronyCon fresh for returning attendees and makes it the incredible experience that it is for newcomers. It is with that in mind that we are trying something a little new this year. Like some of our previous experiments we fully expect that it may be polarizing, but weâd like to think weâve established enough trust that you will hear us out. The success of it will pivot on the community after all.
This year, BronyCon is going to invite a little bit of non-pony under our roof. Think along the lines of a beefed up gaming area and some new, additional programming. To reiterate, pony is still priority number one. Non-pony is already a huge part of the rich tapestry of BronyCon. Every year brings more gaming cosplays, more Steven Universe EPs, more Undertale art in the marketplace and more totally out there meme-ry. Itâs clear that this fandom thrives on more than just miniature equines and â20% coolerâ jokes. What brings us together may be ponies, but what keeps us together is the complex net weâve woven with one another. At the same time, we wonât skirt itâthereâs a lot of My Little Pony conventions out there. Yes, BronyCon is the largest, but you canât depend solely on a legacy to drive interest in an event. For BronyCon to continue to lead, it needs to leverage new ideas to stay out front. This is a way for us to add value for everyone, not to reduce the pony. A lot of you sacrifice other cons to attend BronyCon. This is a way of bringing some of the things that you might miss at another event right to you. Plus, think of how much easier it will be to finally drag that stubborn friend along! ADDED BONUS.
Furthermore, the fandom has long thrived upon and celebrated those who create content within our community. Many people have used their creativity inspired by My Little Pony to go on and begin pursuit of their own careers in art and animation. By allowing a little extra content to be at BronyCon, this provides the opportunity for content creators who have the same source of inspiration as all of us to be more free with the content they produce and bring in fresh ideas that have not been seen within the pony fandom before.
All that leaves is the question of what we are adding. Well, the thing that makes the brony community so unique is the fact that it has brought together people of all ages and walks of life over a single show. As the show weâve loved is even titled, âFriendship is Magic.â Our staff are targeting things that share that same spiritâgeeky shows and games that have a way of uniting all sorts of different folks. After all, isnât that what fandom is all about?
Your input is very valuable to us. After all, this convention is for you. As always feel free to throw any questions, of which we are sure there are many, to [email protected] or contact us on social media. We will do our best to answer them. Keep your eyes on our social media in the coming weeks as we start to announce more details. We hope everyone is as excited about this as our staff! Thanks for your continuing confidence in what we do. At the end of the day, itâs all for you.

Anya is live and ready to show you everything. Watch her strip, dance, and perform exclusive shows just for you. Interact in real-time and make your fantasies come true.

Not a Goodbye, but a Thank You
Note: This letter was written by Josh Dean who was the con chair for BronyCon between 2014-2016. Now that he is stepping down, he had a few words with share.
This is a letter that I imagined myself writing exactly three times in my time here at BronyCon. Each one of them was during the convention chair elections with the thought: "if I don't win, I should have something prepared." Each one of those times, I never did get around to writing that letter, but I've given a lot of thought towards what I should say if and when the time should come that I would no longer be BronyCon's convention chair.
That time has finally come, and still, I do not quite know what to write. But hopefully this will suffice.
For three days a year, we have the honor and privilege of working for an event that is able to shape, change, and better the lives of people who set foot into the Baltimore Convention Center. For the other 362 days, we come together in other ways, preparing ourselves for that work. What we do, as staff, attendees, guests of honor, exhibitors, press, panelists, musicians, and everything else is nothing short of a miracle. It is a labor of love that many in the world would turn their backs on and choose not to do, but that is not us â we should be proud of that.
My tenure as chair has been a bit of an odd one. Before me, no one had run this convention for longer than a year. In most cases, less than a full year. I decided that I would keep going until I had literally nothing else to give BronyCon as chair. It has not always been the easiest, I've not always succeeded, but for every bump in the road, every conflict, every complication, I put more and more of myself into BronyCon. At the end of my journey, I gave BronyCon everything I had â blood, sweat, tears. I shared with it all of my happiness, all of my sorrow â I gave it my very soul. In return, it always gave me back the same. For as much as I might say that a lot of my DNA is in BronyCon's, in truth, it's actually the opposite. For as much as I have helped define what BronyCon is, it has helped define who I have become in my adult life, and I would not be the person I am today if not for you all.
Thank you for letting me help you all change the world for the past three years. I hope the memories stick with you, and I know they will with me. This letter is not goodbye. Goodbyes are for sorrow, and I have no sorrow in my leaving. I lay my position in the very capable hands of BronyCon's new convention chair, Jenna OâConnell. She is smart, fresh, and ready to take our convention to the next level. I leave knowing there is a convention full of hard working and dedicated staff and a group of people world wide who enjoy what we do, and want to see what is next for our event.
I will not be saying goodbye our event, this much I swear. No matter what, I will be there for BronyCon. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for us.
Thank you for letting me be BronyCon for a little while. Thank you for everything.
