okay. so. 

the main character of botw is Link, a knight of hyrule who holds the master sword (magic sword that can banish evil and stuff). the princess of hyrule is Zelda, who has magic light powers. 

there are six (?) main tribes. 

rito: bird people. they live up in the cold.

gorons: rock people. they live near a volcano. 

zora: fish people. they live in a lake. 

gerudo: women. they live in the desert. 

hylians: regular humans. they live mainly in the middle of the map but there are villages everywhere 

sheikah: an ancient race of hylians

i’ll get more into these later. for now let’s talk abt the plot

plot:

100 years ago, in the kingdom of hyrule, an evil monster called Calamity Ganon was going to be unleashed on hyrule. 

in order to combat Calamity Ganon, the hylian royal family uncovered ancient sheikah technology (towers, guardians, etc) that were designed to fight the calamity. 

there were also four divine beasts that were uncovered. four champions from different tribes were picked for their abilities to pilot each beast. 

once the Calamity began, Ganon managed to corrupt/overtake the Guardians and Divine Beasts, turning them into weapons against Hyrule. 

Link and the four champions were killed in this event, as well as many others. 

Zelda survives and uses her magical light powers to seal Calamity Ganon inside of Hyrule Castle for a hundred years. 

Meanwhile, Link’s dead body is placed into the shrine of resurrection, where he is revived after a hundred years with no memory. he hears zelda’s voice telling him to save hyrule and obtains the sheikah slate, a device which gives link a plethora of abilities such as bombs, time freezing, ice generation (only over water) and others. he also meets an old man who leads him through the four shrines on the plateau. 

once link completes the four shrines, he is gifted a paraglider by the old man, who turns out to be the dead spirit of King Rhoam, the last king of hyrule who also died in the calamity. he tells link to save hyrule and his daughter, zelda, before fading away into the sky. 

link gets off the great plateau and heads to kakariko village. there, he meets impa, an old woman who tells link that in order to beat ganon he has to cleanse all four divine beasts from the malice created by the calamity. 

so off link goes, gaining memories back as he travels around the map. he cleanses all of the divine beasts and eventually heads to calamity ganon and kicks his butt. 

yay. 

so that’s the basic plot of botw, there’s a lot more side quests/complicated stuff but that’s the essential stuff. 

on to the other stuff.

definitions/other tribe stuff

malice is a sludgy substance that was created by the calamity. it is pink and black and you can’t walk in it cause it hurts you. 

the zoras are fish people who live in zora’s domain. their divine beast is called Vah Ruta. the champion is named Mipha, and she has healing powers. 

gorons are rock people who live in goron city, which is by death mountain. their divine beast is called Vah Rudania, and the champion is Daruk, who can generate a magic impenetrable shield around himself. 

rito are bird people who live in Rito Village (these names are so creative ik). their beast is Vah Medoh, and the champion is revali, who can make a wind updraft to launch himself into the sky. he’s also good at archery :D (my fav character)

gerudo are a tribe of all women (except for one man who is born every 100 years). they live in gerudo desert. divine beast is vah naboris, champion is Urbosa, who can generate a bolt of lightning with a snap of her finger. 

hylians are basic humans who live in a few main places. 

kakariko village (though this place is mainly sheikah) 

hateno village

lurelin village

tarrey town

hyrule castle town

you will also find hylian tourists around and about in hyrule. 

link, zelda, and the king are all hylians. 

sheikah are an ancient race of hylians who created the sheikah technology hundreds of years ago. they are mainly found in kakariko village. 

yiga (who i didn’t mention before but whatever) are kind of a cult/mafia/thing of defective sheikah with a grudge against the hylian royal family. they live out in the outskirts of gerudo desert. their leader is master kohga. they also like bananas

there are many regions in hyrule. 

Hebra (cold and to the northwest) 

Tabantha (also cold but south of Hebra) 

Gerudo Highlands (south of tabantha, north of gerudo desert, cold) 

Gerudo Desert (hot, southwest corner of hyrule)

Faron (humid, south middle of hyrule)

Necluda (regular temp idk, south east) 

Lanayru (cold/regular temp, east) 

Eldin (hot, north east) 

Akkala (more east than eldin, not super hot)

Hyrule Field/Main Hyrule (regular temp, middle of map) 

Great Hyrule Forest/Korok Forest (north, has koroks. this is unimportant)

sheikah tech/research

in hyrule there are 2 tech labs where research is conducted on sheikah technology. one is in hateno village, and the other is in the akkala region. they are led by purah and robbie. 

purah looks like a child because she tried to age herself down with an anti aging rune (you can see how that went). 

this is a guardian 

In the next twenty-four hours, FlameFrags will be dead. 

That, or he’ll have assisted in the saving of all of Hyrule, and be living out the rest of his days in a castle, hanging out with his best friend Lomedy, throwing parties and holding PvP matches every week. 

One of the two. 

His entire job as a Champion of both Hyrule and the Gerudo all revolved around stopping the Calamity from destroying Hyrule and the surrounding areas. 

But it was really difficult to fulfill that purpose if he kept on getting stopped by corrupted Guardians and the occasional wave of monsters that were so determined to stop Flame from getting to the castle. 

Flame stood on the head of his Divine Beast (something he’d gotten very good at over the past month or so), scanning his surroundings for the next inevitable swarm of enemies that would be coming his way. 

Instead, a band of malice shot through the sky, phasing through the walls of Vah Naboris like they were made of air. 

Flame had seen the Guardians corrupt the same way. 

“Oh no you don’t, bro.” 

Flame hurried to get inside his Beast, heart pounding in his ears. 

But by the time he entered into the main terminal chamber, the malice had already contaminated the interior. A strand of the malice separated from the rest, spinning in the air until it changed shape, forming into a creature that could only be a product of the Calamity. 

It carried a sword and shield in its arms, hovering above him like a ghost or a cursed guardian angel. Red flowing hair stayed suspended in the air behind it. Its entire body was made of the magenta and black malice that Flame knew so well.
