What media literacy actually is an ability to critically think and analyze something in your own way, discuss it reasonably, and drawing out conclusions. If you hated the direction of the ending or characters, you are not media illiterate. If you loved the direction of the ending or characters, you are not media illiterate either. It’s not about blindly loving or hating something. It’s not about getting defensive due to different viewpoints of the finale. It’s not about what your opinions are but why and how you came to them- and discussing with others about it.

Hence, this is part of why Tohru falling in love is something she is both terrified of and cannot comprehend. Monogamous love is so selfish in nature. It’s the feeling and want of having one person in that special place in your heart, something Tohru can’t imagine for herself. So when she falls in love with Kyo, someone who is so far out of her reach because of the Curse, his own self hatred and disregard, AND the fact that he’s going to be locked away at the end of graduation.... it makes it so much worse. It’s a genius juxtaposition, having someone who is so selfless experience a feeling that is so selfish.

woah this scene hit hard....... i really appreciate it acknowledging both how tragic it is that self-loathing can lead you to sabotage your relationships but also how unfair it is to project that self-hatred onto other people and reject yourself for them without giving them a say
