What arcades did you hang out in when you were young? My usual places were Captain Video and the Santa Monica Pier, and I spent so much time playing pinball at the UCLA arcade that people thought I was a student there.
I only got to go to Captain Video a couple of times when I was a kid, because I lived in the valley and was only in West LA for auditions. In fact, Captain Video is where I discovered Wizard of Wor for the first time. I never played at the pier, but I heard the legends.
My regular video game hangouts were in the local 7-11, a place called Sunland Discount Variety, and the very occasional trip to Pinball Plus up in La Crescenta. When I was super super super lucky, Iâd get to go to Malibu Grand Prix in Northridge, when weâd visit my great aunt.
I miss video arcades, and I have this dream of opening a proper 80s arcade that only plays music from before 1988, with games to match. Once it is making money, Iâd expand to include a brewpub, and then Iâd build an apartment upstairs where Iâll spend the rest of my days preserving my urine in jars and building the Spruce Moose.
I will gladly help with this dream all the way up to and including the brew pub part. Past that you're on your own.

With such a narrow margin in MA, will Bill Clinton's appearances (some are saying illegal campaigning) at polling places open the results to questioning or legal challenges?
Senator Sanders doesnât seem to spend a lot of time on stuff like that and the proportional allocation of Democratic contests â and relatively close margins in many of these states â mean that the delegate allocation is pretty even in states like Massachusetts, so I wouldnât expect to see any formal complaints from the Sanders campaign. However, President Clinton needs to be very careful about his campaigning. Nobody expects him to sit on the sidelines, but he needs to walk a fine line as a former President or heâll do more to damage Hillary than help her. People are looking for any reason to attack the Clintons for âbending rulesâ. Rivals spent both of Bill Clintonâs terms trying to find something to use to attack the Clintons, and that canât happen again, so these type of mistakes canât happen.
Nate Silver and this tumblr are my go-tos for election insight.
I know you're still counting him out overall, but unless something drastic changes I'm willing to guarantee record turn out June 7 and Bernie takes CA. If that happens, what does it mean for the Clinton campaign? For the Sanders campaign?
Hillary Clinton will clinch the Democratic nomination before the California primary, and California isnât as liberal in Presidential elections as people imagine it is. Is it a safe state for the Democrats? Yes. But itâs also Clinton Country and has been since the early 1990s. Despite a strong organization in 2008, Obama was beaten pretty handily by Clinton in the 2008 California primary.Â
I wouldnât bet on Bernie Sanders winning the California primary, and I certainly wouldnât bet on a record turnout. Californiaâs primary is too late in the calendar to be a game-changer and Californiaâs voters donât flood the polling places for primary elections.

In regards to the SciShow proposal: Does SciShow really cost $600 a MINUTE to produce? Is that for every minute of the video?? And is that really considered "low-budget" in the eyes of Youtube???
I KNOW, RIGHT?! $600 per minute is about half of the bargain basement price of terrible cable TV.
That is not, however, how much we spend on SciShow (we spend a bit less than that). But when  youâre doing a proposal, youâve got to build in some buffer for potential negotiations and as well as âjust in case money.â Like, if one of your people leaves and you have to hire someone do expensive, short notice contract work or you drop a camera and need to do some capital expenditure (buying stuff.)
Also, ideally, you want to build in some profit.
For comparison, TFiOS (a low budget movie) was around $90,000 per minute.Â
SciShow has five full time employees as well as a bunch of contractors and we like to pay them well and give them benefits and stuff.Â
Reblogging this because I struggle daily to explain to tech/media companies what an extraordinary thing YouTubers are doing and how investing in talent who know how to make amazing things for very little is not a bad idea.
Oh yeah and they bring audience too.

See you tomorrow morning on Kickstarter!
Working on this campaign, it's Adam amazing product
I'm amazed at the inability for certain people to grasp the basic, fundamental difference between the Government regulating internet traffic and *running* the internet, as if there has never been an example of the Government regulating a product or service without actually being in the business of providing that product service. And then I remember that certain people are stubbornly, willfully, deliberately stupid.

Youâre born with a ton of fucks to give, so you spend them like a kid with a credit card. You give fucks about your friends, about your grades, about your fashion sense, about strangersâ opinions. You give way too many fucks about way too many things. You have so many. Then, as you get older, you have maybe 10 fucks per month, so you learn to budget them. You allocate fucks to family and career, but there arenât enough fucks to give to the newest fads. Oh, someone at work has something they need my help with thatâs outside my job title? Iâll do my best to allocate some fucks, but this month is pretty tight. Then, as you get even older, youâre down to 1-2 fucks per month, and those fucks are pretty damn precious. You give them to your family and your hobbies and your job, and thatâs kinda it. Itâs not your fault â fucks expire too quickly. I wouldâve liked to save my fucks from when I was younger but I canât. Then, you hit fuck insolvency. Youâre getting like 1 fuck a year, and you have to make it last. So you go without, and even previously fuck-worthy things, you just canât give a fuck. Some people run out really quickly, Some people have a fuck trust fund that pays out a decent amount even into old age. But at some point, the fuck faucet runs completely dry and youâre out of fucks to give. Itâs just basic Fuckonomics.
