I think that Parasite Eve is multiple people talking about Eve, and their distaste for her, but only the female part being Eve. Let me explain!!
“I’ve got a fever don’t breathe on me/ I’m a believer in nobody/ won’t let me leave cause I’ve seen something/ don’t let me sneeze hope I don’t (achoo)” sounds awfully like a certain character who was infected (Scott!!!) this part shows what’s happening to his body/him as a synth in a lab. This is probably him after becoming Syko. “Won’t let me leave cause I’ve seen something” indicates Eve isn’t letting him out, he can’t escape her. Showing the general negativity everybody seems to have around her.
The next verse “really we just need to fear something/ only pretending to feel something/ I know you’re dying to run/ I wanna turn you around” makes me think that it’s Strassman here. He knows she’s unsafe, something to fear. He knows she isn’t real, that she “feels” but doesn’t actually feel which to him proves her inhumanity perhaps? “I know you’re dying to run” makes me think he’s aware of her craving for power, and authority and the “I wanna turn you around” may be him contemplating confronting her.
The female part I don’t think needs much of an explanation, it’s Eve probably talking to the masses. Then in the main chorus “it’s the parasite Eve” one word sticks out to me. PARASITE! She is a parasite to them. She snuck her way up to the top, she used people, manipulated, groomed, harmed, abused, and killed people for power. What do parasites do? They use whatever they’ve latched onto for power, for life. That’s exactly what Eve does. She uses humans in youtopia as batteries for life, she used NexGen and the people in NexGen for power. She is a parasite.
Then the next verse starts “I heard they need better signal/ put chips and pins in the needles/ quarantine all of those secrets in that black hole you call a brain before it’s to late” this verse sounds like Selene to me. The rebellious nature of it, even the way Oli sings/speaks the verse in the song screams authority hating, rebellious teenager. This verse also aligns with Selene in lots of ways. Especially that last line, it screams her. She states her diary that she overthinks, which indicates maybe a form of anxiety (which is maybe why she smokes.) the verse “put chips and pins in the needles” sounds similar to the saying “walking on pins and needles” maybe that’s how she feels around Eve. She’s also aware of all the secrets Eve hides for NexGen, of all the things she does for NexGen and herself. Selene knows that NexGen isn’t what they say they are. Which goes with the last line.
The next verse I think is once again Strassman, this time it’s slightly different though. “Really we just wanna scream something/ only pretend to believe something/ I know you’re baying for blood/ I wanna turn you around.” I think this verse shows his desperation, he wants to scream that Eve is wrong, that she wasn’t made for this but can’t. She’s above him. He’s only pretending to agree, to believe with what she’s doing because what else can he do? The only way out is death. He knows she’s evil, he knows how far she’s willing to go, he knows she’s “baying for blood” and he wants to stop her, but he knows there’s no way he can.
“You can board up your windows/ you can lock up your doors/ but you can’t keep washing your hands off the shit anymore/ when all the kings horses and all the kings friends/ can’t tell their arses from their pathogens/ when life is a prison and death is a door/ this ain’t a warning/ this is a war” I think is Syko, not Scott just becoming Syko, Syko. He’s been through experiments, he’s been traumatized, and he’s angry. This entire verse shows his anger, his hurt, all of it directed at Eve. “You can board up your windows/ you can lock up your doors” shows that he has tried to hide, he has tried to escape but she found him anyways. “but you can’t keep washing your hands off the shit anymore” is him saying to Eve that she can’t keep covering up everything she’s done, she will be found out. Nothing ever stays a secret. “when all the kings horses and all the kings friends/ can’t tell their arses from their pathogens” is Syko saying that Eve is going to fall. It’s an obvious reference to Humpty Dumpty. The story is about a king’s favorite egg who sat on a wall and fell down. Everybody tried to patch him up, put him together to make sure the king won’t be upset but nothing worked, and Humpty died. The lyric is telling Eve that when she falls she won’t be fixed, nobody can save her when people realizes what she’s done. Even if she’s NexGen’s secret weapon, she’s not gonna make it out when people discover everything. “when life is a prison and death is a door” is Syko talking about going from being dead to a synth isn’t natural to him. He probably isn’t comfortable in this new body. Death was his escape from VSPR-37, now he’s alive again but only as a test subject. He’s trapped. He probably wishes he stayed dead. “This ain’t a warning/ this is a war” is him repeating her words but changing the meaning. Syko is warning the listener that EVE ISN'T GOOD!! She never was, never will be.
That’s all for now, thank you for taking the time to read this, I tried to water it down as much as I could. I love you all!!!
