May you find a pocket of magical community that requires you to suppress neither your discernment nor your belief. May you be surrounded by magical peers who require only that you believe what you believe, and that you practice what you practice. May you find a space that holds respect for your experiences even when they don't align with the practices of the others in that space.
yaāll please⦠i donāt wanna see tips or tricks or lists or bullet points. tell me about your meditation, tell me about your conversations with your spirits and ancestors, tell me a story passed down in your family practice for generations. i love seeing us do our work and weave our craft. give me the nitty gritty and the raw. THIS is our magic.

Iām prescribing everybody a 25% increase in whimsy and a 15% increase in wonder. Go outside and look for bugs under a rock. Tell the squirrels good morning. Sing back to the birds. Feel your place in the universe.

Chalice Half Full or Half Empty?
I participate in a local pagan book club, and at our last meeting a couple of us got into a side discussion about expectations for success with spellwork. Iād mentioned that my wife and I had gone through a spate of unexpected appliance replacements which needed to be taken care of recently: a new water heater, new microwave, and last week a new refrigerator. My wife had been lamenting theā¦
chaos magick made a mistake. namely, it gave itself a vague name featuring one of the coolest abstract concepts. now a lot of people call themselves some variation of chaos witch because they assume (reasonably) that, like a night witch is just a witch that does stuff at nighttime and a lightworker is just someone that works with light energy that a chaos magician is just a magician who is tied to chaos.
when in reality the term is more akin to Golden Dawn or Thelema or Heathenry in that it represents a magical approach with like a history and cant be understood by reading the dictionary definitions of the words.
this is exacerbated by the fact that Chaos Magicians are philosophically aligned with being chill and letting people do things however they want so theyre the LEAST likely to be like "actually you should pick a different word."
this bothers me because im a pedant but affects literally nothing about my life, practice, or community so the most ill do is post about it but thank you reading my strongly worded letter
THIS!!! Omg this.
Itās a source of never ending frustration for me that the terms āchaosā and āgnosisā got new definitions tacked on which deviate so significantly from the widely understood meanings those words already have. I donāt really want to be the person constantly āwell, actuallyā-ing people left and right, but itās super hard sometimes to let the misconceptions slide.
Deep cleaning a room in a witch coupleās house involves a lot of us holding up random bundles and asking, āIs this a spell?ā
A small upg from me
I think some people misunderstand the meaning of the word "knowledge" in spiritual texts and practices.
Basically, it doesn't matter what you read or what information you have. Until it is experienced by you, it will not become a part of you.
It is through experience that people learn, it is through experience that we can compare things, separate and combine them. And only then we gain understanding and knowledge.
Just for an example. We have a tree of knowledge of good and evil in the bible, right? I would say that it would be better to call it: the Tree of Experience of good and evil. Because good and evil are not definable concepts, they vary from person to person. To know your definition of these concepts, you need to live through each of them. This is actually what happened in the bible.
Why am I saying all this? I want to encourage you to develop your own understanding of the world based on your own experience.
Reading books is good, but it's the knowledge of their authors. You can read hundreds of books on self-development and witchcraft, and get nothing but just information. Information is not knowledge.
Gain knowledge.

Question for the Comunity
What are the things you do on a regular bases in your practice?
Monthly, weekly, daily, etc?
Reply/Repost with your answers. Would love to see what everyone does!!
I donāt even try to maintain daily rituals or practices long term because I canāt keep up with them (this applies to all areas of my life, not just spiritual). But I sometimes have spells that require daily maintenance for a period of time. Also sometimes I decide to spend a specific period of time doing a regular ritual for a specific purpose. For instance for a while I did a crystal selection ritual each Monday and wore that crystal all week. And then either I pick an end date or I just stop when it feels itās fulfilled its purpose. Currently I have a spell going which involves doing a little daily tapping ritual with a staff, but thatās my only daily practice at the moment.
I do have a coven that convenes every other week, as well as several monthly events for the local pagan/occult community which I either organize or am committed to.
Mostly I have regular practices on a monthly basis (or longer):
I track Mercuryās cycles and veil every day during each retrograde.
I mark the turn of the wheel by changing the seasonal decor in my house on Samhain, Imbolc, Beltane, and Lughnasadh.
Otherwise I run my practice on a policy of āIāll do it when the time feels right.ā
hey babes, i promise youāre not a bad witch if you donāt celebrate the wheel of the year
Iāve run a local pagan meetup for almost 15 years. I originally started attending it back in 2005 when the original organizer still ran it. Itās basically how I got into witchcraft in the first place. Iām lucky to be in an area with an active pagan/witchy/occult community. There are public rituals, discussion groups, social hangouts, classes, drum circles⦠lots of variety.
However, in the past few years itās become harder and harder to get people to come out for things - not just my meetup, but across the whole spectrum of events, regardless of who is organising them. And Iām trying to get a better understanding of why.
Soā¦
Witches/pagans/occultists of Tumblr, which of the following best describes you when it comes to in-person events?
I regularly attend public rituals, classes, meet-ups, etc in my area!
I have local witchy friends or a coven, but Iām not into public gatherings
I would love to attend events, but my area doesnāt have them
I would love to attend events, but dont have time/transportation/money/etc
Iāve attended events in the past but had bad experiences and stopped
Iām interested, but havenāt attended because of personal reasons/concerns
There are events near me, but they donāt fit my practice or interests
I donāt like the people in my local community so I avoid events
I have no interest at all in in-person gatherings or events

A rare hot take from me - If you have to algospeak about a topic like death or sex, or around words like blood or menstruation, you have no business making those topics a focal point of your practice. I don't really interact with occult or spiritual communities outside of Tumblr, but I've seen folks here and on other platforms say things like "s*x magic is the most powerful magic I've ever done" or "I've started doing bl00d magic."
So much of my practice centers around death, dying, and caring for the spirits of the dead. I can't imagine not using the actual words and instead using "d3ad" or "š²-ing". If a topic is important, powerful, vast, etc. enough to be a central tenant of your spiritual or magical practice then it deserves to be spoken with the real words.
I don't care what platform you're on. Do not comply in advance.
Not only is censorship bad in every single case, it's also bad to "market" a very personal thing like one's magical practice via algorithm. If you're marketing something tangible like a book or whatever, I totally understand needing to work the system to try and reach an audience. Been there. Will be there again because I'm working on another book. But that's different than just posting about my practice. I can't think of any way in which it strengthens or enhances a personal spiritual practice to jump through the hoops necessary to appease an algorithm designed solely to produce maximum profits for a big corporation.
I mean, we're magical practitioners, right? It makes much more sense to me to use my own spellworking skills to get the things I post in front of the eyes of other practitioners who will truly be interested in what I have to say. Because the reality of doing this silly linguistic song and dance to try and squeak by the algorighm's censorship net (or any of the other things the algorithms are training us to do) is that even if it works, the algorithm is going to mostly push those posts out to people most likely to disagree and fight in the comments about it because that's what drives traffic and ad revenue.
It doesn't have to be like this. It didn't used to be like this. You don't have to play the game. It's set up so the house is the only real winner in the end.
Currently suffering from a minor case of spellwriterās block.

One of my favorite things about having magic practioner friends is learning how true the proverb "one man's trash is another man's treasure" really is. I love being able to send texts along the lines of: "Hey [Friend's Name], I've got a bunch of vibrantly purple garlic skins, do you want these for your Hecate work?" 9 times out of 10, my random junk gains a new purpose in life instead of getting thrown away. Win-win.
And the reverse as well. You can hit up your friends with requests for even the weirdest spell ingredients and someone will probably have whatever it is on hand.
Iāve started collecting the papers I get from my fortune cookies and using the fortunes in my spells. Any other ingredients are measured using the lucky numbers in the other side of the paper.
Just a fun little idea I thought Iād share.
