Happy New Years everyone! What a year it was, full of changes, both on Nexus and in real life. Canāt say itās been an easy year. Itās been a year of compromises and letting go. But its also been a year of growth, and I canāt think of a better time to reminisce about my charactersā imaginary lives, so here's a read more:
Breir Blueleaf- āThat Wildstar game looks kinda coolā I thought. āI like the art style.ā I thought. āEveryoneās gonna play those catgirl things but not me Iām going to be d i f f e r e n tā I thought. Right up until I saw their idle animations on the character creation screen. So cute yet dorky. I think what I love most about aurin is their sincerity. Anyway, Breir was rolled on day one and has been my Wildstar screen name and icon ever since. She was my main in the first guild I joined, The Eternity, and lived through their explosive (ICly) demise. The guildās end happened to coincide with a move across the country for me IRL. I still donāt know if that made things easier or harder on both fronts.Ā
After the Eternity, Breir joined the Fringe Rangers, her now and forever home. Many events were run and many friends made. I had years of fun and met people who I hope to know for many years to come. Breir gradually fell out of the spotlight as I played other characters, but I like how she ended up.
Corvic Mordacci- Also a day one character. I think he was technically my first character created. I loved the concept of mordesh from the āmeet theā trailers and wanted to make someone who was dour and perhaps off-putting but who had his heart in the right place. Couldnāt resist that frown. He was never my main in any guild but he was lucky enough to go on some adventures withĀ āTeam Justiceā and patch up a wide variety of people at his clinic. Corvic is a staunch and constant force working in the background, showing up when needed right up until the month the servers shut down. Usually when someone has broken something.
Fynneus Sailn- My third oldest character, but he had a patchy start. He began as an NPC in Corvicās story, then morphed into the Wildstar version of a previous WoW character when a friend of mine made a Wildstar version of her WoW character. In WoW they were father and son who were separated by faction lines. In Wildstar we played on that theme, but the circumstances and the characters came out different in the context of Nexus. Fynn was never in an RP guild or circle, but he had the longest development arc of any of my characters. I feel lucky to have met with every single character who he interacted with, they all made an impact on his story (thank you if you are reading this!) I finally managed to bring the arc full circle, in a way, before the servers shut down.Ā
Bolivar Venko- Boli was my second Fringe Ranger main. He was intended as a mordesh who was easier to play than Corvic because he: A. wasnāt a medic, and B. talked a lot less. Turns out that sometimes itās harder to figure out how to say things with less words. Bolivar was so fun to play that he gradually took over Breirās spot. Maybe part of me liked being the tall one. I like to think that he was at least a steady and reliable presence in the Rangers. I love the nicknames he collected: Facesmash, Death Train, and Uncle Boli. Heās also been lucky enough to hang out with the truly fantastic Fantastic Enterprises crew from time to time.Ā
Joel Cloudfall- Joel is one of my less played characters but he still deserves a spot on this list. He was my main for a series of events called Monday Night RP that I used to run on monday nights with a co-GM. We ran a series of unapologeticallyĀ pop-culture based simcores like a pokemon simcore. Fantasy, jumanji, twilight, super hero... etc. There was a grinch simcore for the holidays. Lots of fun. Joel also stumbled his way into a hodge-podge pirate crew, the Void Born. All he wanted was a quiet life and to be good, but what fun is that?
Grexxa Redmorning- Grexxa was actually created early on, but for a long time she just sat on my character selection screen looking cool but but not doing anything. That changed when I joined the Anchorage guild, who gave me the chance to really flex her muscles. Sometimes she sticks out like a sore thumb, but hey thatās what granok do. Iām lucky to have a great group to RP her with, and to constantly inspire me with their writing and storytelling.Ā
Serrin Scaletorn- truly a breakaway character. He was made just for one event during the RangerāsĀ āDrakenuaryā month for encouraging draken rp. But he stuck and quickly became one of my more rped characters. Which wouldnāt have happened without his friends, and eventual late-night event group the Liberators of Antiquity. He also got his claws into some Anchorage and FE rp...when he wasnāt busy walking around other peopleās plots withĀ āTeam Poofā. One highlight was when he and team poof interacted with a Protostar clone rper who was ICly selling pet rocks. We later learned the proto clone RPer was a dev out having fun.Ā
Anyway, this ramble was mostly for me but if youāre reading this: thank you to the Wildstar fandom and RP community for a truly great four-ish years. Things change and we have to adjust. The closing of the wildstar servers is a shift, though for me it doesnāt mean the end of my stories. It does happen to line up with some big changes for me IRL, some difficult and some exciting. So there is a lot of shifting to do, but thatās not all bad. Hereās looking forward to 2019.
