2013.
“A place you can’t go back to” Your love was like the wick of a slow burning candle. I longed for a touch that often burned through my skin, eventually turning my soul to ashes. You collected wood and camped out in the caves of my ribs, creating flames that would only keep you warm. My blood boiled at the thought of your selfish ways. How you could only seek to fulfil your needs abandoning the one who provided you with shelter, I would never know. Yellow is my least favorite color. But you persuaded me with roses reminiscent of the sun, the smell of smoke escaped from my pores. Once again I would endure the pain that was caused by flames tickling at the apex of my heart. I inhaled the “truth” in every story that I read from your book of lies, creating a fiction of love to keep me sane as I worked so diligently to block the disturbance you often left upon entrance to my door. You showed up uninvited. I granted you access, handing you a key without question. I’ve paid for my mistakes by listening to the diminishing beat of my heart; experiencing weakness in the fibers that hold my ligaments to remain firm. Self-diagnosis led me to believe that I was in love. I’ve always been a hypochondriac. I knew that the burning inside was becoming unhealthy, and eventually my entire being would begin to deteriorate. I changed the locks. No longer available, your presence no longer welcomed. Rejection caused you to reconsider your actions. Before you had only been a tease. Giving me samples of inconsistencies, I knew I would never make that purchase. I enjoyed the free-trial, but soon realized that the FDA should have placed you on recall. The desire became dull, I was no longer pleased with your antics, you could no longer cause my palms to sweat. It was now your turn to burn. Wishing on the shooting stars that fill the night sky, you pray to the being of higher power in which you believe, asking for forgiveness and a second chance. I learned very quickly from the first burn. My ticket was a one way, and I refuse to return for the sake of your selfishness.
