Matt paint, Bitumen and Matt Varnish 

It reminded me of the roofs on garages on the council estate I grew up in when the council would paint this thick tar like paint to stop people from climbing on them, when we had nothing to do or nowhere to play we had to make things up because of the shit estate I lived on, we had nothing else.

Still Early stages of my council estate blanket, Im adding varying textures, lengths, colours to create a shabby boarded up looking piece which will encase the space. Hopefully able to place bricks at the bottom of the piece as if forcing the blanket in place. 

With final degree show looming, my project took a turn as the work I was creating before felt forced, and I felt like I was creating a piece because I had to rather than a piece I really wanted to create. So I am currently planning to stitch a huge blanket using all different black and small amounts of shades of blue to create a blanket hanging from the ceiling and part of the floor. When hung and installed I will then apply paint, bitumen, tar, all thick unconventional painting mediums. I plan to cover part of a window to emulate the council estate I grew up on, the covered windows which is what I am trying to take into the gallery context. 

Working over an old painting I used Bitumen paint to paint over a new black surface. I used a mop to apply the paint rather than a paint brush, as if I was mopping the canvas with an unconventional paint medium, used for painting roofs and deterring climbing, I then encased the painting in a matt varnish. Whilst wet I handled the painting as if I would as dry, placing up against the wall, carrying, moving around, encasing my handprints and marks, as if immortalizing my marks upon the piece.
