Hey! I’m speaking at the Franklin Covey - Leader in Me events in Spartanburg, South Carolina 2/19 + Mobile, AL 2/26!

Dear 10 year old me,

It’s me .. you. Just older. I have news.

When you grow up - you marry a girl you meet at summer camp. Girl of your dreams. Years later your wedding is held at that same summer camp. Amazing right? But, wait, there’s more. Even more years later the two of you get the honor of directing that summer camp.

Yeah. I know. Stick with me. There’s still more.

In addition to being in charge of that 77 acres of magic during the summer, you and your wife also get to work together all year round at a studio of your own. You name it ‘Montague Workshop’ as a tribute to all the cool people who inspired you that had workshops (Jim Henson ... Gepetto ... your dad). You’re probably wondering what your job is. Well, it’s hard to pinpoint, because it’s a lot of things. Simply put: You try to create things that make the world more awesome for kids.

Along the way you try to spread wisdom and wonder and hope and love. You have two kids and they love you and you love them and… ah. I’ve said too much. Just listen: you’re in for an adventure, little friend. You’ll have ideas of what you want to do, but God has much better things in store. It won’t be easy, but stick to that and wonderful things will happen.

Just wanted to let you know that I’m trying to be the kind of grown up that would make you proud. Now, go. Enjoy it.

I've long admired what Craig and Marc Kielburger started back when they were in 7th grade. Since then they've built more than 650 schools, been part of providing clean water to more than 1 million people, and activated young people all over the world to 'be the change'. It's a big deal that ABC is putting this show on the air.

Having learned about adventures in TV, I'm certain the network chopped and picked and poked this thing, but the relentless optimism, pure joy and selfless love of the people behind this program and the young people in it could never be fully edited out. Hope you'll check it out!

I thought today might be a fitting day to share this. It was on this date in 1990 that Jim Henson passed away. I was 9 years old. I never met the man, but I cried when I found out the news.

This is a little part of a new workspace Kristi and I will be moving into soon. Earlier this week we got to do this and it was a cool moment for all of us. In addition to the quote you'll see our initials and two little fingerprints belonging to Miles and Matilda.
