i’ve been so close to crying lately i feel like the city just before the 1997 new years flood. all piled up. & truthfully, i only cry in my sleep when the feeling of something unreal made real carves through me & i wake up sobbing about the way the sun looked when i was ten years old & had just jumped over the backyard fence, only to bite my tongue when i landed. but some things get to me  when my eyes are open & they sit in my throat like a heavy fish pulled from its home & jerking around, desperate. i need to soak in the bath for a while, or float in something vast & natural to get to the bottom of myself. squeeze my heart like it’s a piece of clay.
