If I can't be who I am anywhere..... I've always been welcomed to be that person my thoughts. But, well. I guess. Whatever.

I think I get so sensitive about certain subjects b/c I've seen too much not to. Once you hear a man say, "if she hadn't worn that skirt and watched her drink intake I wouldn't have raped her" it changes your life forever. As if she was to blame for him holding her down and taking what wasn't his was not his fault because she had one shot too many. Who's fault is it when a nation is failing? When mothers raise fatherless sons, when women are raped, when women are on an abortion table, when women are promiscuous. It's all our fault it seems. My, oh my, The standards we must meet. We must be strong, yet silent. If we speak we are bitter. Committed, but not alone. If we enter too many relationships we are whores, If we are single we are lonely and yet again, bitter. We must be experienced, yet not virgins. We must be held accountable but slow to place blame. I never saw myself as a bitter chick, but do I not have the right to be? Maybe I'll claim that title and wear it proudly. Wear a Scarlett Letter on my chest, claim every name thrown upon me in a world where my opinion is shunned. We lack privilege. To be black and to be a woman is a pain that will always follow me. White women, are still white. The color of their skin allowing them things we can never afford. Black men, still male.... Having a penis and making the rules. I just don't know if I can follow the rules anymore. Truthfully, my education has cursed me. Had I not have seen the things I've seen or ever have known the things I know I wouldn't be aware of the bullshit I see daily. I have never wished more for ignorance. I quit.

The bottom line is because I can. Lol but seriously I can. I'm not ashamed of my natural hair or wigs. The wigs help out when my hair is acting crazy especially when I've done some extreme exercising. I also am aware about the health of hair and understand it is not in my hair's best interest to always manipulate it with various styles that my mind comes up with or to always have it out especially during dry winter months (dry air + dry ends = breakage), so some type of faux hair is a great alternative. It is also fun to be able to get different looks . I think that is what is great about being a woman, we can change it up and still look natural. Now I don't try to fool anyone and stunt like its mine because I'm not ashamed about natural hair. I think every woman should invest in one type wig/weave. If you have always had long hair get a short wig, short hair, get a long one. Curly hair get a straight weave, straight hair, get some curls. Nothing is wrong with it as long as you love who you are when weave is unthreaded or the wig is placed on your dresser, which is where Monroe (my wig) sits right now! Marley A. Olivera

Reasons why I proudly wear weave: 1) ok, most people get their hair done every2 weeks.. that's 35 dollars every week, and maybe a relaxer which is 60.. so since weave lasts about 3 months..and you have always have extras.. you're paying maybe 200 for hair and the dresser 60 FOR ONE TIME as opposed to paying 35 x 3 for every two weeks, then getting a 60 dollar relaxer every 5-6 weeks.. 265 dollars not including the trims, possible conditioners, and other bullshit dresser try to squeeze in there to get money out of u... 2) when jumping around in the club, and you're sweating a storm..you can throw your hair up and still looking like a rock star..OR you can have natural hair and come out the club looking like a cotton ball or have your hair stick your head looking like a q-tip..requiring you to then fix your hair once you get back home, straighten it out, wash it..and try to look half way decent in time for work/church/or life in the morning.  3) Who really wants to wake up 30 mins early to do some hair? with weave (the good kind) you can curl, twirl, or put it back in a pony tail if you FEEL like it..with real hair sometimes u gotta go that extra mile and gel down the few stains, curl the stubborn pieces, and swoop a junior high bang just to look decent. 4) Um in a bathing suit, weave makes u look like a freakin model.. no matter the size. Sure you may be precious size, but COME ON..men know damn well they give a second look to a girl with long hair, fake or not. 5) weave holds expression. Actually,all hair does. Sometimes a woman cuts her hair to cut off the damage and forget what she went through. Sometimes, a woman glues on tracks to hold on to promises and in hopes that those tracks will motivate her to remain true to her promises..and sometimes a woman gets a relaxer because, those naps were due to the stress they had in their life.  6) weave isn't a definition of who you are. Men don't understand because they are all about "a girl with sexy long hair and a big butt"...nicki's butt is fake..nicki's nose, hair, cheeks, ears....her body is fake but she's an icon. Rihanna wears weave..oh but she's sexy as hell and wifey material..They need to apply their hate for weave for ALL women.. not just the " common, we struggling out here to better ourselves and become doctors/teachers/nurses" women. 7) Weave is to women what Jordan's is to men... -_- so they need to stop.   8) And lastly, I look good with me weave..that's why I wear it. Proudly. I used to wear it due to my illness but it has become a security blanket, and has become a test. If a man can accept my illness, my drive and struggle, and my WEAVE; then a man can accept me. Period. 

"I've been 'natural' for about 7 years. I have extremely thick, extremely curly hair. I wear weave occasionally for length or when I want my hair straight. Because I live in houston, its humid year round. Even when its cold. Thus, my hair grabs available water out of the and begins to poof. Umm, I wear it because I don't like dealing with my hair and I'm all natural, plus, I just love weave. lol there's so many different kinds.
