Just a few more random photos from our time in CDMX.

Just some scenes from the streets of Mexico City. There are some really gorgeous streets and some really rough ones. It doesn't matter where you are, expect to see really aggressive driving. Lane splitting from motorcycles—drivers cutting each other off— lanes and red lights are suggestions. I liked that they had installed vertical gardens on overpasses on the highway.

7/11/2025 Eat Mexico food tour. Having a guide take us from food vendor to food vendor was really a highlight. We got to try all sorts of foods: spices and jams, cheese, tortas, street quesadillas with freshly-made tortillas, grasshoppers, and finally ice cream.

7/10/2025 Back to Coyoacán for brunch and the Frida Kahlo house and museum. Frida is the new superstar in Mexico City because of the Salma Hayek biopic that came out about 20 years ago. Until that movie Frida was a known artist, but was overshadowed by her husband Diego Rivera. Since the movie, interest in Frida's life has exploded.

7/9/2025 The Diego Rivera Anahuacalli Museum was not a planned stop, but is actually a cool find. Definitely not one of the main tourist destinations, this museum has four floors of pre-Columbian art. The architecture of the museum is also interesting and that's what Sam was interested in. Also visitors can access the roof of the museum and get one of the better views of Mexico City.

7/9/2025 We took a boat ride in Xochimilco. These boats are often used for parties, but we arrived early and the weather was somewhat cool, so it was mostly a calm boat ride.

7/8/2025 We walked to Taqueria Orinoco for dinner tonight.

7/8/2025 Castillo de Chapultepec. Lots of history here from Emperor Maximilian, Empress Charlotte, and Porfirio Díaz. The castle is situated on top of a rise in the landscape and has amazing views of the city. There is also some modern art portraying the history of modern Mexico and the battle of Chapultepec when cadets from the military academy held off the invading US military until their deaths.

7/8/2025 Out and about in Chapultepec. We stopped for some helado (ice cream), though I failed to get any pictures of that experience. Chapultepec is a large city park with lots of trails and vendors.

7/8/2025 The Museo Nacional de Antropología. A really nice museum with lots of artifacts and cultural interpretations divided up by the various cultures in Mexico.

However we were able to climb The Pyramid of The Moon. I counted 48 steps to the first level of the pyramid. From there you can see an amazing view of the entire complex.

7/7/2025 We visited Teotihuacan, an ancient city about 25 miles north of Mexico City. These pictures are of the Temple of The Feathered Serpent. We also got a very interesting demo from a local vendor explaining how various dyes were made from the local plant life and minerals.

7/7/2025 On the road. In the northern part of Mexico City there are neighborhoods on the hillsides that are often populated by working class residents. Gondolas take these residents only up to their homes. Also stray dogs abound and there are services to care for these animals. Finally we had a quick view of El Vigilante, a bronze statue along the highway north of Mexico City.

7/6/2025 Some sights around the city center. Every Sunday morning some of the main roads are shut down and taken over by runners, walkers, and cyclists. Lots of folks getting photos taken for engagements or quinceañeras. A few rather large meteorites. Some beautiful sculptures, architecture, and infrastructure.
