who?: @hiddenvaldis when?: since you DIDN'T respond to my post facelift starter call, after the last night where?: tower of olympia
He certainly did have a troublesome Captain. When he caught word of the Progress Day shipwreck, a small part of him did hope for the Wavebreaker's demise. At least then he'd be absolved of their pact and she'd have gotten what she deserved for clinging to the Tower. Then again, Kian chose her for a reason, and a pirate who'd be bested by the Veiled Sea would never be allowed to claim him as part of their crew. He waited in the shadows of the Tower halls, certain ValdĂs would be among the white robes even as their numbers dwindled. As irritated as he was with her, so long as she drew breath, her continued health remained one of his top priorities. "Word is you nearly drowned during Progress Day and for what? Fancy trinkets? Maybe some earned gold? They're turning you into a proper Olympian, aren't they? Next you'll start telling me about the wonders of being landlocked and how grateful I must feel to have a break from sailing," Kian starts in the moment she's alone. He peels out of the shadows, still concealing every part of his identity. The Dreadnought was excessively cautious, especially since his stoneless, Accepted ring was buried with his supposed body. He may have avoided this monument to wasted potential like the plague, but Kian knew the Tower well, including how to avoid wards. "You weren't caught up with the Kossith at all, were you? There's nothing quite like wasting your time with these landlocked issues, is there?" With the mask on it was hard to tell, but Kian was pouting.
who?: @hectorthefollower when?: after the last night where?: veil of veins?
The Dreadnought been patient, as patient as he could be, and made sure to not allow his crimes at all resemble that of Lady Aetos. His old signature was distinctive which made things quite difficult. How many disappearances could he cause before the magisters got suspicious? He had to be even more cautious in Eterna, though The Dreadnought's fingers drummed furiously against his cane as he watched the streets. A specimen appeared, one whose undead body was especially alluring considering how the Deadlands was about the safest place on the mainland for the pirate. At least among vampires he had the skills to gain a little leverage. His worst impulses were getting the better of him as he began to imagine every strand of sinew that held his unliving body together. Even with his mask obscuring his features, the direction of The Dreadnought's gaze was unmistakable. He didn't have much charm, but he did have hunger. "You seem to be enjoying yourself well enough, all things considering," he says as he approaches, his cane hitting the ground deliberately as he walked. The second pair of vocal chords he wove for himself further concealed his identity, making his tone of voice sound even less human. But Raiders were entitled to their secrets, no? "Let me buy you a drink. Or two. You look like you might be feeling thirsty."
who?: @vicoya where?: mercury's bazaar when?: progress day
Kian Sforza, more commonly known as Lady Aetos, was dead. This was a matter of public record, he made sure of it. No witch alive could've distinguished the double he wove from his real body, which was why he was so careful about concealing his identity and generally stayed away from the capitol. Progress Day was meant to provide a veil he could conduct his business under without raising suspicion, but the Wheel weaved. The Dreadnought paused when he saw Vicoya, and even though his plague mask hid his eyes, he was obviously staring. "Happy Progress Day," he says disingenuously, modulating his pitch with the second set of vocal chords he weaved in his throat. "Hope you enjoy the festivities, now excuse meâŠ" Fate must've had it out for him because of all the people crammed into the city he just had to run into her. Kian Sforza was dead, which meant The Dreadnought couldn't do or say anything to make someone who knew his face question that.
who?: @ryujinseaborn where?: some tavern near tiber bay when?: one of the progress daysss
Mutually assured destruction was one hell of a thing. Sure, ValdĂs promised to sweeten their deal, but Kian was not satisfied as long as she continued to pursue her Tower endeavors, murderously so. They were sea witches, born to be free on the tides, not cooped up in a monument to stifling talent. The Dreadnought was a dark cloud over the Progress Day festivities, sticking to the shadows of taverns the crew of RĂĄn's Armada bounced between. He wasn't with them, but the moment they started clashing with another crew, he acted out of character and got involved. One fist thrown at one of The Dreadnought's "crewmates" was all it took. The assailant began screaming and clutching that very hand as the blood in it boiled, intensifying as the large, masked figure in black pushed his way through the drunken pirates. Beneath the mask, Kian grinned wickedly, but the shocked attention reminded him that regardless of his foul mood, he needed to control his impulses while in Eterna. "Have your Captain call your crew back. We get the message: you guys are tough. There's no need to escalate," he says in his modulated voice directly to the bristling pirates before him, sure Ryujin of The Leviathan was nearby. "I really don't feel like patching these brutes up today, but your man might lose the hand if you want to fight. Let's get back to drinking."

MARCUS RUTHERFORD for GQ Photography: Lee Malone
The feywilds were unkind to everyone save for druids and elvhen, those who thought otherwise were only fooling themselves. The nature of that unkindness is what varied, to most they were nothing but capricious tricks and clever pranks - but the danger of long lived creatures like the fey was how easy it was to forget the fragility of mortals. A decade as stone might be a fair joke to pull on someone with centuries at their disposal, but it was purely malevolent for people like Blythe, who barely had a day to spare.
Ransacked and beaten, at least Blythe's end of the deal hadn't attracted enough predators to do him in. Diarmad had no reason to believe the other's ego was strictly inflated, clearly he had done a great deal to earn the ire of the wilds. Fortunately for the spores genasi, harbinger of rot and rebirth, it was the creatures within these long lived forests that had come to rightfully fear him. Diarmad didn't have a temperamental bone in his body, but a thing was only useful until it wasn't, from there it was better to steer clear of his path.
Deeper into the swamp he led the witch, trees bending to clear their path, roots lifting to give the pair solid footing through a bog teaming with both life and death. The former for Diarmad, the latter for any company with usefulness that had grown past expiration. A hovel of roots, lichen, and twisted logs rose in the midst - the construct resembled a cabin, but a palpable air of foreboding malevolence seemed to permeate the air that surrounded it.
"First things first, Doctor." Diarmad stated, lingering in the doorway, "remove your mask." Or expire on my doorstep, went unsaid.
Kian never deluded himself about his nature. He stepped away from the Tower because they told him his predilections and ideas on how to use his weaves went beyond taboo. They shut down his creativity, and for that he turned his back on the Healers to follow the path that was etched into his very being. He was born to be a Raider; quite literally, there was no other path for him. And in that life of adventure and exploration he claimed for himself, he'd achieved what any great pirate hoped for: notoriety. Â He never wanted fame, but fame clung to him the moment his identity was revealed. Having a large bounty was a point of pride for merely an instant before it became nothing but a burden. He hated having to constantly look over his shoulder and make every effort to hide, but Kian would endure if it meant he could continue mastering the threads that pulled on blood itself, the water of life for all breathing creatures. Â Secrets that would propel him further dwelled within the chest cavity of the druid he followed. He saw those connections and synapses firing off in real-time, but a peak wasn't enough. As they approached the cabin swathed in a dark energy he could neither fully understand nor combat, his body paused in response to the danger. Kian had traveled far and had stepped into perilous territory before, but never in his travels had he encountered an aura quite like this. He hesitated because he wasn't a fool. Â But he was a risk taker, and this was one he determined was worth it. Grabbing his mask, he shakily removed it and let it fall into the mass of twisting roots underfoot, revealing himself to Diarmad. This was leverage, a secret the druid could use to get rid of him if he didn't want to bother using his immense power, but that just went to show how important Kian thought fulfilling their agreement was. "As I stated, I've committed many crimes within Lysara's borders. Concealing my identity is the only way I can still move around with some measure of freedom," he says, exposing more than just his face. A breath is released as his single greatest anxiety is realized. He hadn't shown himself to anyone since he petitioned ValdĂs for a spot on her crew. "My name is Kian, but I am curious though: do you even care who I am?"
"Damn, that's crazy," Kallias muttered, nodding slowly. He pushed his barely-touched goblet of hot mead over the other. It wasn't often that the Armada had business in Veilcrest, but it was still a friendly place for pirates. Kallias was acting Captain of the Leviathan for the moment, only until their true Captain returned from his necessary journey. The burden of leadership was reduced in quiet nights at a tavern, the rest of the crew gone to mingle with some other pirates outside that were also docked nearby with them. Kallias was looking for some time alone from the crew, which was rare, but also very much needed when he felt overwhelmed.
Clearly though, he had little to complain about. Being Quartermaster was a gift; this stranger was more than half nude in the middle of a winter's night and slave to a vampiric creature. Kallias didn't really have anything personal against strigoi or dhampirs, but they were pretty weird. Thralls were weirder. "At least drink something for the warmth. You could probably cut your master with those nips, sheesh."
At least as The Dreadnought, Kian could retain some semblance of dignity. This though? It was beneath him, so far so that he almost rejected the idea the moment he concocted it. Then again, that was part of the appeal. No one would suspect Kian Sforza was alive and hiding in Veilcrest. No one would assume the notorious Raider who was revealed to be the odious Lady Aetos would stoop so low to survive. No matter how he felt about it, he had to commit. Damn that ValdĂs!
"You're kind to offer Sir, but won't that impact my flavor? I couldn't imagine the punishment I'd receive for doing something so bold," he counters, at first wanting to shut this conversation down. But then Kian attuned himself to the flow of the man's blood and allowed himself to take in his outward appearance fully. This was not a person native to the Deadlands, this was a Raider. Suddenly, his interest was piqued, but he had to continue to play up the timid toy act. "Now that I think about it, a punishment wouldn't be the worst thing in the worldâŠ" Kian trails off, biting his lip and even tweaking one of his perky nips just for show. Reentering society even under a mask helped turn him into a remarkable actor. "I guess one drink couldn't hurt, at least not in any way I'd hate," he says, though he's sure to look around and act sheepish about it before sitting down and drinking from the goblet, just a few swallows at first. "Wow, it's really good! I've only had heated water for months now! My master prefers my temperature to remain high for ⊠reasons."

Youâd never finish your training, youâd never become accepted among the witches of the Tower; the sea called you home so you put the halls, the lectures, and the books behind you to embrace the thrill that came with the open air. Salt in your lungs and the sea beneath you. The raiders were in your veins and there was a ship with your name on it, you with your sharp tongue armed and at the ready. Magic and greed, your grandfather was a wanted man and left this ship to you while he basked in the glory of retirement. Wealth in a carefree estate, secluded and in hiding. That was the most you could hope for, youâd accrue enough coin for your head that youâd be forced to leave the tides behind. It was that, or some upstart would find you and swoop everything up from under you; someone like you though? You had ambition. Wants of your own. Desires. You wanted more than just a ship with a crew, you wanted an armada of your own, you wanted to be so powerful that no amount of coin would be enough to topple you from the summit. Wasting away on some island, living off former glories when the tides were ready to turn at any moment.

History. ( tw blood, murder, animal cruelty )
A rough and tumble attitude cemented by Caribellan sensibilities made blending into the Tower of Olympia rather difficult. Kian never felt like it was a good fit for him, though he tried because his grandfather told him with power heâd write his own ticket after becoming an Olympian. That was the part that ate away at him, the âexpectationsâ that were so incongruent with how he saw himself as a person and a witch. The restorative light particles he learned to weave on his own didnât align with the battle magic pirating witches in his family possessed, so they pushed him towards the Tower for a chance at a âbetter lifeâ than the cruel one heâd have on the Veiled Sea. Once heâd been Accepted into the Healers of Ceres, his lecturers never seemed to appreciate Kianâs questions and theories regarding the body. They encouraged him to stick to the garden path, to learn as so many before him had. They impressed upon him the noble obligation that came with being a Healer and promised how fulfilled heâd be restoring bodies across the continent once he mastered his craft. Was that all he was to people? Someone seen as âbetterâ than his raider family because healing came more naturally than destruction? A witch destined to wait around for others to take action so he could swoop in after the fact and clean their wounds? No matter how hard he tried to study what he liked or used his magic as he pleased, someone was telling him that they knew better. Kian grew frustrated, so much so that he abandoned his studies at the Tower without a word the day his Trial was set to begin.Â
With a gold band devoid of a gemstone inlay, Kian returned to the Caribellan interior to his grandfatherâs hidden alcove, an experienced and masterful witch in his own right. He abandoned the coastal portions of the island to better hide himself, his bounty for his decades as a ferocious armada captain one of the highest in the continent. The man practically raised Kian while his daughter was off with her own armada. Though he greatly admired his grandpa, Kian knew the island raised him too. He didnât see himself as any better than his grandpa or the swashbuckling associates that surrounded him. Old pirates telling tall tales of The Seabane, rowdy drunks getting into fistfights one moment and drinking merrily together the next, grimy men slapping him on the back after he healed scrapes and bruises because even as a young blood he always haggled for compensation, these were the things that Kian identified with. He was a proud Caribellan, a proud Sforza witch, and hopefully one day a proud raider just like his grandfather.Â
He expected some manner of disappointment when he returned without finishing his studies, but instead, Kian found a letter. Someone mustâve divined this eventuality for his grandpa because the letter was written by a man who already knew. The Seabane was no more, his health in decline now that he had reached his senior years. Diseased to the point healers could only delay the inevitable, he had neared his end while Kian was in the Tower and wanted to spend his final days sailing for pleasure and blowing through his massive fortune. His grandfather chronicled his happiest moments, praised Kian for trying to become an Olympian, and finally signed off with the words heâd longed to hear for most of his life: he too had what it took to become a great raider. No qualifier, no conditions, just complete affirmation that the life he wanted was a life he could have. The letter was more than Kian expected to find in his grandpaâs humble quarters, but with it was a doorknob engraved with layers of magic. When he placed it against a wall and a door formed around it, what Kian saw on the other side when he stepped in finally made sense of questions he had for a long time. If The Seabane was so great, why did he live his retirement in squalor? Why didnât he ever go to the sea if he loved being a raider so much? How did he seem to be able to acquire goods from foreign lands if he never left his small apartments? How could he claim to be the greatest sailor if he didnât even have one ship to his name? Kian never pressed, but being retired or hiding because of a bounty never seemed like adequate answers.Â
The doorknob was the key, literally. The door took Kian to a secret residence, one he quickly realized existed on an island uncharted by any known map. In some far-off corner of the Veiled Sea, The Seabane had built his own private hideaway to store his treasure and act as an escape. If anyone managed to track him down in Caribellaâs interior, he could conjure the door and slip away to safety, returning to Caribella only when the coast was clear. It was so simple, Kian felt like an idiot not realizing where his grandpa disappeared to every day despite claiming to live the slow, retired life. The discovery made him respect his grandpa even more, especially since it came with a ship docked there specifically for Kian. It was clear his grandpa did all he could to prepare Kian for life as a raider and he was determined to not squander the chance. He didnât steal or plunder to get his start, but he would do so without restraint to acquire more. With The Seabaneâs blessing, Kian felt he had all he needed to be the captain of the greatest armada the Veiled Sea had ever known.Â
He set sail with a crew of hired mercenaries since he could afford them now. It felt easier that way since Kian wanted to start small. They avoided other armadas and focused on exploring ruins and temples. There was treasure to be found along the way, but also information and ancient spells. These interested him greatly, allowing him to abandon the teachings of the Tower for forms of magic that he was previously warned to stay away from the art of blood. Selling artifacts and scrolls was how he kept his hired crew happy and loyal, but Kianâs passion became archaic magics dating as far back as the Age of Enlightenment, especially those pertaining to the magic of life. Anything he could get his hands on heâd steal, even if that meant the occasional conflict. With each new discovery came a series of experiments he wanted to conduct, and each experiment resulted in a few victims. At first he started small, harvesting parts and blood from members of crews encountered on the open water, but gradually Kianâs net expanded. Men, women, children, animals, it seemed his tastes covered the entire spectrum of biological life. Evidence of his crimes was even found floating in the waters near the Feywilds. Specific details on his proclivities were unclear, but spare parts drained of blood became a signature of sorts.Â
Lady Aetos they began to call him, a faceless raider who was more depraved than the others. No one knew what he did with the body parts he stole or why he did so, churning out rumors that turned Kian into some sort of mythologized villain. With waist-length hair and the meticulous yet ruthless nature of his assaults had the continent assuming he was a woman, a mistake he believed would serve as his advantage on his quest toward the top. They focused on his death toll and failed to realize how much coin he stole or earned from selling creature parts. They only ever saw the end results and never the live dissections he conducted to understand the bodies of all living species in Taravell. They couldnât fathom the collection of samples heâd acquired from all manner of life and how he honed his weaves daily to better restore life from a mere collection of cells. Lady Aetos, an amalgamation of fears, she became Kianâs first mask and he continued to hide behind her name so he could grow his magic and understanding of living, breathing, bodies. However, as he continued to escalate so did his perceived threat to the continent at large. While he thought he was protected behind a mistaken identity, the Agents of Minerva were already well at work uncovering his identity. Kian grew sloppy in his cockiness and eventually an image of his face was compiled from the memories of plants and animals in an area he plundered. After that, it wasnât long for the Tower to release his identity and bounty across the queendom.Â
Kian Sforza, the real Lady Aetos. A bounty larger than any treasure he couldâve imagined right there below his name. When Kian first saw the posters, he couldnât help but march around his ship with a copy and brag to the mercenaries about his greatness, but their hesitation to celebrate soon became his own. It was fun at first to fight with all those who targeted him for his bounty. A witch from the Tower, an elvhen swordsman, a werewolf bounty hunter, every day someone new. Kian got to do so many experiments and add more samples to his vast collection during this time, but soon the attacks got relentless. Sometimes multiple encounters in a single day. He had to replace mercenaries much faster and pay the ones he retained more for increased risk. He was on the run from Iskaldrik, Lysara, and even other armadas who just wanted his reward money. Nowhere was safe, and as a witch who still aspired to be a captain of the toughest fleet on the Veiled Sea, he failed to see how thatâd be possible when his head was beginning to seem like a treasure worth acquiring even to those he employed. So Kian Sforza had to die, and he did during a brutal naval clash in the Queenset Isles. Everyone present saw his ship blown apart by cannons and magical armaments. His and the bodies of the mercenaries he paid for were recovered in the wreckage. His death was confirmed, his bounty was rescinded, and thus life moved forward now that the terror known as Lady Aetos had been sent to the underworld.Â
The Seabane was well known for mysterious escapes, but only his grandson understood how his magic worked. By leaving an exact replica of his body on his ship and leaving through his grandpaâs conjured door, Kian was able to escape the devastation in the Queenset Isles to the secret hideaway left to him. With all his treasure and harvested organs, he had more than enough to live in luxury while conducting experiments ten lifetimes over. He could live in quiet bliss while the world thought him dead, never having to lift a finger again on his secret tropical abode. It was paradise. Eight months in, paradise began to make Kian gag. He wasnât some prissy noble, he couldnât be content on his own with a world of discovery out there waiting on him. He especially found no appeal in sitting on his gold forever when the only reason he stole so much was to have power. Kian had goals, goals to become a captain and have an armada of his own. He wanted to be the richest, smartest, most powerful witch on the continent, even though he was forced to abandon those aims in order to save his life.Â
Eight months in hiding and Kian felt compelled to reclaim all he let go of. He opened a door to his grandpaâs old place in Caribella and stepped through, a new name and a new look to disguise his deception. The Dreadnought, a new witch on the waters whose mask and modulated voice kept his true identity anonymous. Kianâs first move upon returning was tracking down an armada and escalating with them until he could force a confrontation with their captain. When he finally managed to, he chose to unmask himself to her alone, striking up a strange deal. Keep his secret and allow The Dreadnought to join her crew and his services would be hers to use. A deal made with a promise of mutually assured destruction, Kian knows his arrangement is temporary. He never dreamed of being in anotherâs armada, but if he wants to lead his own one day he canât hide away either. He needs to live the life of a raider day in and day out, so as long as the captain of RĂĄnâs Armada knows his true identity and doesnât collect his bounty, he will continue to protect her interests so he can live the life he was always meant to, even if that means leaving his mask on most of the time. Â

Kian had tried to tell ValdĂs that the Tower was a waste of her time, that he had claimed more power for himself in the years following the abandonment of his trials than anything those Olympians could've taught him. She didn't listen, which meant her crew would be without his aid until they returned. Hopefully, she had a crew to return to because The Dreadnought would be in hiding until then. He was too annoyed about his bad gamble to care much about keeping them alive for ValdĂs to return to.
The Deadlands seemed like the best place to hide. Lady Aetos never committed crimes there, and Kian could adopt a temporary mask of a loyal thrall. It was easy to find a wealthy vampire to bite his neck and even easier to use the blood they ingested to hex the vampire for leverage. He didn't want much, just permission to wear a mask and follow the vampire around Veilcrest as a loyal, leashed thrall in exchange for not inflicting the vampire with unimaginable pain. Everybody won, except Kian, who was beginning to feel shortchanged. A life of opulence in the role of pet was incredibly dull. Moments of independence were far and few between but cherished nonetheless. That's why he wasn't willing to risk losing it. "Forgive me, but my Master's kindness extends so far. If I keep him waiting, he won't let me out by myself any longer," he says worriedly to the one stopping him, trying not to gag as he did. Kian served no one, but his collar and skimpy attire conveyed that his body was meant for the pleasure of a superior. A kept thrall didn't have time to waste. Beneath his mask, his eyes were pointed and focused, but his voice remained as meek and needy as he could manage. "I can feel his hunger growing with each passing second. The worse it gets, the rougher he is with me, which is ⊠so enjoyable, but even I have limits. I hope I haven't offended you? I just really really want to get back to himâŠ"
The world was their oyster, and as a pirate, how could she not reach for a taste? Cuisine could not be stolen or made into riches, but for a former street urchin of Ishraed, it still held the sort of appeal she could not deny herself. After years of near starvation, ValdĂs was not one to pass the opportunity to eat her fill. Not when she paid for it from the money she earned through blood sweat and tears.Â
âAnkhurian it is, then,â she says with a nod to herself as she steps further into the backstreets of Caribella. Half of her focus is on their surroundings, on the roofs and the sidestreets and beyond, to ensure that they are not ambushed or followed. The other half pays attention to Kianâs words. This is not the first time she has heard the Dreadnoughtâs opinion of the Tower, and it will not be the last. There is a reason he left, and for all she is curious about his reason, she is all the more curious about the Tower itself. All she knows of magic, she had learned through grit and determination and there are times she wonders what it would be to be properly taught. âAs inconvenient as it is, I am aware that your caution is necessary. There is a reason why I donât complain too much. I know to trust your instincts on this.â
âI can get you the blood so we can increase our stores, but I think I shall keep the chef for now.â If necessary, she will eat the cannibalist paste (and really, she couldnât be too surprised that it was just that when it was something of Kianâs creation) because she is more interested in surviving that feeling bad about how she does so, but for now it was far from necessary. More importantly, she knew her own crew would likely revolt if they were forced to fire their chef and to eat human flesh and she would rather not deal with the mess. And well. Yeah, she would do what she needs to survive, but cannibalism? That truly was a last resort. âAnd you know that part of the reason I leave the ship itâs to gather information. That's still very necessary.â
No one would lay a finger on ValdĂs. That was Kian's personal conviction. This wasn't a symbol of affection nor did it mean he particularly liked her, but he was a gambling man. Out of all the influential Captains that sailed around Caribellan waters, she led the fleet best suited for his goals. Wild, unpredictable, the perfect mask for his various sample collection techniques. But Kian wouldn't be able to do what he wanted unless he could hide his actions behind another's. No one would harm ValdĂs because he needed her to be Captain, the Captain who'd take all attention away from him. Â "If you trust my instincts, then you should trust me when I say the Tower is dangerous. Can you say with certainty that your mind is completely warded against master witches? I will not venture back into the Queenlands so you'll be on your own. But if someone in the Tower manages to learn my identity because of your negligence, I will have to do something drastic," he warns, probably taking a slightly threatening tone with ValdĂs for the very first time. "I agreed to support and safeguard you as you do my secret. I made no such promise to your crew." Â Luxury and comfort, the very things Kian put no stock in, seemed to be high on ValdĂs' priority list. If he was after that, he would've stayed on his grandfather's private island and spent the massive amounts of gold and platinum stored there. Instead, he preferred the life of an adventurer. Growing fat and happy didn't interest him one bit. "It's a nice idea. Your crew is wary of receiving my healing now that they understand the price. I doubt I'll be able to collect samples from them for much longer," he lamented, though he supposed it wasn't all bad. The longer they abstained, the more chances of serious injury befalling them. Kian only needed to wait until then so he could demand a high price for his healing services. "I will always be irritated by your recklessness. However, I'll choose to see the opportunity in it. When you leave the ship, I will leave too. And when I have the opportunity collect samples, I'll take it."

Naturally, Diarmad had been watching.
Doctor Blythe's struggle had been noted a few days prior as the witch relentlessly pushed through the mud. The flesh sentinels that the man had put together were inevitably torn apart by the wilds and at every turn Diarmad expected the man to turn back. Tenacious as he was, that never seemed to happen - so instead, the genasi prepared to receive the guest. In most cases, these preparations would've been done in the form of murky pitfalls, designed to encase the other in the wet earth so Diarmad could gradually leach the natural arcana coming off of the witch.
This one had... Something, though. Tenacity aside he'd taken Diarmad up on his challenge and come to greet him on the other end of it. While it was entirely possible to keep the witch wandering until his boots wore down to the sole and fatigue eventually claimed him, he'd decided almost a full day prior that Doctor Blythe had more use alive than dead.
"Why keep going." Diarmad commented idly as he manifested in front of the other, a necrotic cloud that took physical form and stood with intent upon a rotted, fallen tree. Half claimed by the swamp, he'd mentally congratulate Doctor Blythe for making it this far. "You look tired from your travels, isn't the water warm?" Diarmad asked as the swamp churned idly beneath the good Doctor, "Doesn't it feel inviting?" With a gesture, the ground seemed to lift beneath the witch, elevating him from the nearly knee-deep swamp he'd been trudging through. What felt like the earth was a network of flesh, flora, and mycelial webs amalgamated together as the cleaned but preserved bone of one of the many inhabitants of the swamp protruded idly from it.
Another gesture and a pathway made itself clear for Blythe, forming a clear direction through the swamp. "My cabin is close, you can take your rest and tell me about your travels before we discuss business." Diarmad dropped from his elevated place above and landed on the pathway, waiting expectantly for the Doctor to join him.
There was no need for Kian to live this way. Between what he inherited from The Seabane and what he plundered for himself as Lady Aetos, he had more than enough wealth to spend the rest of his life in absolute luxury and comfort, hidden away from anyone who'd have an inkling about his bounty. He spat on such an existence, rejected the notion, and lived day by day, scrounging to take as any pirate would.  This swamp was rough and these Feywilds were vindictive, but Kian had braved harsh environments and dangerous, trap-ridden ruins before. He lived for the satisfaction of taking what was his from someone who thought it was theirs, whether that be ancient buried magical secrets or the life of someone wasting theirs away. The victims Kian disemboweled for this trek would help him achieve new knowledge and become offerings for a druid. Thanks to him, they would achieve more in death than they ever could in life.  "I'm not one for comfort. And I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty either. It's been a while since I've had to rough it like this. I've ⊠had to hide in the shadow of another. But for all the trouble these damned wilds have wrought on me, I enjoyed the journey. It'll make my reward worth it." Even a seasoned witch like Kian had to admire the power Diarmad wielded with a flick of his wrist. He rose out of the muck and stepped onto the path presented. He was careful to make sure his mask was firmly situated even though the rest of his attire was tattered and hanging off his body, but he did unweave the second set of vocal cords modulating his voice.  "I admit, I got a little overzealous as I prepared to find you. I won't ask for more than what you promised, but I have the organs of ten to offer. Flesh included. All perfectly in tact and kept alive with my magic," he says, letting the druid hear his actual voice for the first time. "Though I'm grateful you'd offer to let me inside. I didn't think the Feywilds would be this rough with me, but I'm not surprised. The last time I was in this part of Lysara, I collected many samples and wasn't gentle about it. Fair is fair I suppose."
