Since I’m not seeing her name nearly enough on the press, let’s give the attention Katie Bouman deserves. Thanks to her, we are now possible to see the first ever image of a black hole, something that people talked 200 years ago for the first time. It’s no longer a myth. We are girls and we can be whatever we want to be. Einstein would be proud of you, Katie. Thank you!

Since the beginning of her career, Georgia O’Keeffe has been made the subject of critical and cultural discourse about women who make art. In the mid-1920s, she became increasingly hostile to relentless gendering and spoke out against her Freudian critics. Hoping to find a woman who might write about her art more perceptively than the male critics, O'Keeffe wrote to Mabel Dodge Luhan saying:

“I thought you could write something about me that men can't—What I want written… I do not know—I have no definite idea of what it should be—but a woman who has lived many things and who sees lines and colors as an expression of living—might say something that a man can't—I feel there is something unexplored about woman that only a woman can explore—Men have done all they can do about it.”
