The fandoms depiction of Eris as this sexy badass sadboy dog dad is just plain uncompelling compared to the tidbits we get from the books where he is genuinely morally questionable and a bit pathetic and proportionally underpowered… we could’ve had it all
romantic fantasy’s will always pursue the inner emotions of a character before they pursue the political landscape of the world that’s just a given going into a romantic fantasy, especially one that is following the common money making tropes, no matter how many pages there are the politics can always be summarized into a simple good vs bad but applying this to ACOTAR series everyone discusses the emotional and romantic aspects of its characters over everything but it hurts my heart that the popular argument of “who is better” between tamlin and rhysand can be finalized by well, which court ended slavery and which court has 2/3 of its inhabitants living in constant fear of torture, rape, and a brutal culture of violence and intimidation by its ruler so i don’t really care about tamlin’s dastardly wicked crimes that can be summarized as just being mean to feyre or lucien
I don’t have a very well formed thought about this yet but the prevalence of anti- and pro- verbiage in the acotar fandom speaks to something deeply immature and unhealthy about the way its participants engage with fiction
Some of these characters need to suffer for reasons that are their own damned fault for once.

Look girl dad tam is cool and all but I think its popularity is in part born from the idea that his issue was misogyny and raising a daughter would force him to reconsider that flawed mindset when it’s blatantly clear from the text his issues were never rooted in misogyny. Him having a son is more interesting to me; it would force him to face the circumstances under which he, a son in a patriarchal monarchy, was raised. He’d have to figure out how not to pass on his flaws to his male kid, who he’d more easily see his younger self in, especially if he’s scared of becoming his dad. With a daughter his inner conflict is always going to be Feyre 2.0
This is such a niche complaint but I’ve seen so many Eris fans misinterpret the
“Perhaps Eris would be High Lord sooner than he planned”
line as being a badass Eris moment when it’s so obviously meant to be a badass IC moment. The correct interpretation is that the IC might kill Beron themselves for making fun of Rhysand's SA, prematurely making Eris leader. It's just IC virtue signaling once again.
