Where have I been?
Happy December friends! I've been away for a while but I'm here to share some fun information. I made a Substack!
Putting my reviews on tumblr has never been something I was fully sold on, so after a lot of thinking and knowing I've loved newsletters, I thought that this would be a fun thing to do. Will every review make it? Absolutely not, but if you've liked my super indepth review(s) I've done, they're going to migrate. I'm still going to share a lot of my reading, crochet, and other projects here on tumblr, but the migration is something I'm super excited about.
My first official post goes live tomorrow, and here's the link to finding it all!
Just a little enby reader sharing their thoughts with the world. Click to read Green Reviews, a Substack publication. Launched 6 hours ago.

Catch up with me!
My goodness, it's been a while. I had been meaning to make a post at the end of August and such but school prep hit me hard and lost my rhythm and schedule but I'm finally figuring it out.

Goodbye June
The end of June means the beginning of July, summer coming closer and closer to an end, and the beginning of Camp NaNo. As much as I would like to say I had an exciting and great June, but it wasn't that special.
I crochet!
I always try and do some sort of art to keep me motivated, I find that handmade projects are the greatest way to keep me inspired and happy. After scrolling through various social medias and wanting to take a break from a blanket I want to make, I came up with a few ideas of things I want to make.
The pattern I chose is a free one, however since Father's day is today, I made mine into a pot holder instead of a bag. It was a really good pattern and I always love graphs over written instructions because they seem to make more sense to me.
This is a tapestry crochet pattern of baby snoopy.
Upon choosing the pattern, I realized that I've never done tapestry crochet before but I found it quite easy to take up! I really enjoyed it and want to do more, but finding patterns I like was hard. If you have any you'd recommend, I'd love to see them!
I worked up the pattern over 2 days, but I'm certainly not the fastest crocheter. I get so envious of people who can crochet super fast but whenever I try figuring it out or changing my hand position to see if it would be easier or faster, it screws me up so fast.
Being slow seems to be good for me though, it forces me to relax and actually take my time instead of cranking out projects and rushing through work. I get to spend more time watching videos and shows to catch up with my favorite artists and people which is also nice.
But I finished around noon today and for a first time tapestry crochet, I'm really proud of it! It's not perfect, but I think it resembles the pattern pretty well and I look forward to whatever I do next.

âThe Orange At lunchtime I bought a huge orangeâ The size of it made us all laugh. I peeled it and shared it with Robert and Daveâ They got quarters and I had a half. And that orange, it made me so happy, As ordinary things often do Just lately. The shopping. A walk in the park. This is peace and contentment. Itâs new. The rest of the day was quite easy. I did all the jobs on my list And enjoyed them and had some time over. I love you. Iâm glad I exist.â

Goodbye May!
This is much later than normal and after a wild rid of a May, I'm glad to finally be settled in and able to share. I had about 3 huge life events this past month that through me for a loop in my scheduling which always makes life harder on me. I'm a consistency person, what can I say!

12 Tips for Making Your Creative Writing Sessions More Productive
When youâre ready to sit down and make some progress on your current WIP, get in touch with your productivity to reach your goals. Check out a few ways to hack your brain and make your creative writing sessions more productive. Youâll defeat writerâs block and potentially overshoot your usual writing goals.
1. Set a Goal
Creating goals and reaching them is the easiest way to know youâve been productive. Writing goals can take many forms, but you can consider using one of these goals to get started:
Write 100 (200, 300, whatever you feel comfortable with) words
Write for 15 minutes without a break
Write 1 (2, 3, etc.) page
Finish the current chapter
Even if you think a goal is too small, it could be just right for your writing abilities and schedule. Every person is different, so every writerâs productivity goals will be different too.
2. Put Your Phone Away
The average person checks their phone 344 times every day (once every four minutes). Putting it next to you while youâre writing might not be enough to make your creative writing session more productive.
Turn your phone on silent and place it in a drawer. Hide it under the pillow next to you or leave it in the next room. As long as itâs out of sight, youâll be less tempted to pick it up and flip through apps while youâre working toward your writing goals.
3. Pick a Better Environment
If youâve been struggling with your writing, try changing where you write. Your kitchen table might be around too many distractions, so write in your bedroom instead.
Need inspiration? I wrote about 10 places to write your stories that could inspire you in different ways. Changing your scenery can help you get a new perspective, which is why people take vacations. Help your brain jumpstart itself by changing your scenery whenever you want to write next.
4. Harness Your Focus With Sounds
Listening to the right playlist can actually help you focus. Instead of distracting you, lyric-less noises or songs may become the background noises that trigger stochastic resonance in your brain. Itâs a phenomenon when people focus more efficiently when they only hear specific background noises.
Grab your favorite headphones and try a few playlists I put together with various background sounds. You could write more easily while listening to sounds like rain, forrest noises, snowstorms, or more.
You can also search for instrumental playlists if youâre not into real-world noises. Have fun trying different audio clips to see what works best with your brain.
5. Free Write for One Minute
You might not jump right back into your current WIP because stress is clogging your mind. Free write for one minute by recording your stream of consciousness on a piece of paper or a Google doc. It might not have anything to do with your story, but destressing by facing the thoughts holding your creativity back could be what you need to really engage with your work.
6. Switch Your Writing Time
Trying to write in the evening might not work with your circadian rhythm. Some people have more natural energy in the mornings or afternoons. Reflect on when you have the most energy or when you most easily pay attention to whatâs going on around you.
Figuring out when youâre most in tune with your energy could help you switch your writing time to a better time of day for your brain. Try writing at a new time of day to see if itâs easier or more challenging.
7. Add Writing to Your Schedule
This tip revolutionized my writing routine. I used to write whenever I got done for the day, if I had energy leftover after a long day of school, work, or other responsibilities.
Now I add 15 minutes to my schedule specifically for my creative process. It seemed weird at first because creativity is supposed to be intuitive. However, adding more responsibilities to your time limits what you can do and how much energy you have after the day ends.
Schedule a few minutes for writing. Repeat that schedule two or three times a week and youâll quickly make progress on your WIP.
8. Brainstorm With a Friend
When your writing process feels stuck, brainstorming or venting out loud could help. Call a friend and ask if you can vent about your story for a few minutes. Sometimes hearing your struggles out loud makes them seem smaller and easier to overcome.
You could also post about your process online (hello, tumblr!), text a friend, post in a virtual writing group, or talk to yourself out loud. You might think through your current creative block and get more writing done.
9. Block That Editing Instinct
I know how tempting it is to edit as you write. Catch that instinct as often as possible to save your editing for another time.
Writers need first drafts to start morphing their work into a polished story. Just get those words on paper for right now. You can edit your heart out once you have a draft to work with.
10. Dismantle Your Project
You can also overcome the desire to constantly edit or work on finer story details by breaking your project apart.
Manageable segments might free up the anxiety holding your creavity back. Outline your writing process into steps like:
Character creation
Plot outlining
Plot point development
Writing (by chapter, word count, etC)
Editing (line edits and/or developmental edits)
You could work a little bit on each segment every day. Youâll watch your WIP blossom and potential feel less stressed because you know youâre being productive.Â
11. Read a Similar Book
When was the last time you picked up a book? Sometimes we need to read a similar story to get our creativity flowing again. Read something similar by getting a book in the same genre, thematic narrative, or writing style.
You might feel your creativity come back to you so writing becomes easier. Youâll also benefit by developing a few extra skills as each page turns.
12. Allow Yourself to Get Messy
Perfectionism finds us all eventually. When it has your creativity locked up, encourage yourself to get messy. Every writer makes mistakes and edits them out later. Thatâs why there are multiple types of editing after you finish your draft.
Write something terrible. I dare you. You can always transform it into something great later.
You might even discover that your first draft isnât as bad as you thought itâd be.
-----
Take these tips with you into your next writing session. They may help when your old process isnât working as well as before!
the blind pig - aziza barnes
I think this book has changed me. I would not call this an easy read, in fact, it's far from it. This book touches on a lot of hard topics like sex, race, and gender, but it has resonated with me. It's darkly beautiful but has been possibly one of the best things I've ever read related to how I experience my gender and the world occasionally, albeit with very different experiences.
So, would I recommend this? Yes.
5/5 âď¸
"you're not alone in this. I can't stay human all the time too."
barnes' book captures a lot within it. I was recommended this book at a conference by some workers from Not A Cult after saying I liked work by Savannah Brown and Rhiannon McGavin. They gave me a couple others, but this was the book I knew I needed to jump into right away.
To put it simply, this book is...odd. I would call it hybrid, in the formatting of it. There are pages written in prose, others more resembling poetry, large chunks written in second person as well as writing dialogue more often in a classic script format instead of the traditional dialogue often seen in novels.
The writing is also very abstract but in a cool and fantastical way. Its grammar descriptions break from conventional, "standard" to AAVE and word salad in something that feels like exactly what a breakdown feels like. There are long metaphors that comeback similar to how a comedian might circle back on a joke from the begining of the show towards the end. It makes the reading pay off and the story of finding yourself in the world hit so much harder.
The story does go into some more graphic descriptions of abuse, racism, and sex, something to be aware of, but I think if you're in a place and position to be able to read it, you absolutely should.
bilf (book i'd like to finish)

Goodbye April <3
April has officially ended, meaning my school year is almost over. It's nice, though a little jarring, as I've started packing while also finally getting a schedule that works well for me. I had a good month with some surprisingly good weather for a midwestern region.
I kinda love books that are just good. They arenât gonna change my life. They wonât affect how I think or see the world. I wonât stay awake running the words through my head over and over again. I probably wonât remember the main charactersâ names. Thereâs a good chance Iâll forget I even read it at some point. But it was still good. It made me smile or laugh or cry or just feel content in the moment. Not every book needs to be a ground-breaker. Not every book needs to alter your brain chemistry. Not every book needs to be the best book youâve ever read. Sometimes you read a book, and itâs just good. And thatâs enough. Thatâs all you need
