Hello!

I've been running this blog for six (whoa...) years now and have been blogging about Iron Fist in general for longer than that. Throughout this time, I have been fortunate to get to know some wonderful fellow fans of the character. On the occasion of this amazing IF milestone, I thought it would be a fun opportunity to reach out directly to the fandom on Tumblr and get to know everyone a little bit better. With this in mind, I've put together a short series of questions, which anyone is welcome to answer in a reblog/reply to this post. You can answer all of the questions or just one, in as much detail as you'd like. No pressure, no stress, and no deadline; I'd like to see how long and far this circulates.

Why did Danny quit, really? Danny gave up the chi of Shou-Lao at the end of 2021's Iron Fist: Heart of the Dragon. This character-altering decision took place over the course of one(1) panel. There was no set-up and no follow-up, and the only explanations Danny gave for it in that panel were (to paraphrase): "Once someone else has the dragon's chi, I can't get it back"—objectively untrue; see literally any of his fights with Steel Serpent over the past fifty years—and an off-hand "I wasn't all that good at it in the first place." With all due respect, that is not a reason, that's an excuse. Why did he actually do it? The entire Iron Fist run before Heart of the Dragon was centered on Danny's journey toward regaining his confidence in his role as Iron Fist. His primary identity for the full half-century he has existed has been as Iron Fist. What happened to cause such a sudden, massive turnaround in his thinking?! No subsequent writer has bothered to propose any kind of real explanation for one of the biggest bombs ever dropped in an Iron Fist comic, and that is unfathomable to me. If you're going to make this narrative decision, that's fine, but at least put some thought behind it. Care enough about this character to come up with an explanation that makes some damn kind of sense. If this is going to be the new status quo, I want to have a reason to point to that explains it. Give us a reason!

Why wasn't Pei good enough? Pei was established as Danny's successor a full decade ago, in Iron Fist: The Living Weapon #11.

Danny's been beat to shit and needs medical attention. Misty and Colleen get him to the dojo, where Ward gets someone to patch him up. (Little whump detail: Ward patting Danny's leg after the blood is wiped away from his wound.)
