Okay hear me out - Bucky from TFAWS but with The Winter Soldier being his inner demon and pain in the a$$. Bothering him on everyday basis and making sure Bucky doesn't have a chance to recover from who he was and what he's done. I just really like the idea of Winter Soldier being like his alter-ego and reflecting his mental health issues. That's it. That's the post.
The mission was simple. Just recon and if you get discovered, call for back-up and avoid combat. No kills necessary. Once back-up arrives they would take care of the facility and and everyone inside.
Or I can just take out everyone. Leave no witnesses behind. You know I'm very good at that.
He ignores the voice. Yes, he was very good at that, but this was a no kill mission. Fact is, he was the best when it came to quickly killing people. But he's not that person anymore. He doesn't kill.
Just because you ignore me, doesn't mean I'm not here. And we both know that my way would lead to quicker results.
His whole focus is on the entrance of the building in front of him. In the last few days several men left the building at this time, but it was still guarded. It was suspected that this place was being used to manufacture a new kind of drug that has been found in a few clubs around the world. The men will return in a few hours with heavy bags, probably supplies to manufacture the drugs. Possibly guns or worse. This being a simple mission was the reason Bucky volunteered. No action, just sitting there bored and observing.
Five men, possibly armed, threat level moderate. I could hit their SUV with the truck around the corner and take them all out. Wouldn't even take five minutes.
Ignoring the voice has been becoming harder over the last few missions. Steve noticed something was off and didn't want Bucky to go on this solo mission, but Bucky assured him he was fine and he just needed some time alone. Away from everyone. But the truth is, the one person he wanted to get away from is someone he couldn't get away from. Himself. He sighed and grabbed the binoculars to watch the entrance again. Suddenly the guards started to look into his direction.
You idiot forgot about the sun. The reflection alerted them to your position. I would never make such a mistake. Now we only have one option. Kill. All. Witnesses.
He was right. Bucky made a mistake he knows not to make. He's keeps getting distracted, slipping. Making mistakes only a beginner would. Sticking to the plan he used his phone to let the Avengers know that he had been spotted. They should be here within half an hour. He was confident he would be able to avoid anyone looking for him. Worst case he had to knock someone unconscious. And most importantly, ignore the voice.
Bucky made his way to the roof. His plan was to jump to another building and disappear in the streets. For anyone but a super soldier the next building would be too far away, for him it was just a slightly bigger jump.
It would be so much easier to take everyone out. You don't even have to do it, let me do it. You know I'm efficient, I won't even need the gun you forgot in your hiding spot.
The gun! Did he really leave it behind? He was so distracted by the voice and trying to ignore it that he was starting to doubt himself. He checked the holster and sighed in relief to find the gun there.
Made you look. You're useless without me. Just let me take over and fix the mess-
Suddenly there is a pain in his right arm and Bucky realises he's been shot. How long did he stop for while arguing with himself? He couldn't tell, but it obviously was too long. The pain caught him off guard, it took him all of his self-control to contain the Winter Soldier. All the more reason to avoid a fight. In the back of his head he could hear the Winter Soldier making fun of him, calling him weak, pathetic, useless. With the pain growing more intense Bucky slowly started to believe these words. He messed up this simple mission in so many ways, how was the voice wrong?

"Buck, can you hear me?", Steve's voice brought Bucky back to reality. He had no idea where he was and what happened after he got shot on the roof. The worst case scenarios were running through his head when Steve called his name again. He shook his head to try to clear his and finally replied "I'm over here" wherever here is He got up from his hiding place, between some boxes and made his way out to where Steve was. Judging from the windows he was inside the building he had been watching for the last few days. Did he want to know how he ended up in here?
"What the hell happened? This was supposed to a simple mission to gather intel, no interaction with anyone!" Steve was upset as he approached Bucky. He was determined to reprimand him for letting this mission go sideways. As Steve got closer to Bucky he slowly in his tracks. "What the hell happened, Buck?" this time Steve's voice was full of concern. Bucky looked like a mess. By the confusion on Bucky's face it seemed like he also didn't know what happened. He was taken by surprise by a sudden jolt of pain in his arm as Steve touched it. Right, he was shot, how could he forget. Steve was saying something but it didn't reach his ears. He felt his consciousness slipping as he heard the voice speak out loud this time
"He was weak, so I took care of the situation." ––––––––––––––––- author's note:
This is my only written work I'll keep on tumblr, for everything else you can find me on AO3. But this little ficlet works best with kyuoki's amazing art. I still have a longer version of this as a WIP with each chapter being named after each of the trigger words. You can find it here I have it all planned out, just haven't been in the right headspace to finish it.
