I thought this was sooooo inspirational, even though it’s a simple little sentence. I’ve always loved writing. When I was about 4, I used to write sentences on the top of white sheets of paper and then draw pictures to match them. After I was all done with the story, I would staple the left side together and read it to my family. Your feelings can be expressed in many different ways (through songwriting, painting, playing an instrument...etc.) My friend writes her own songs and plays them beautifully on the piano. Whenever I hear one of her songs, I feel this burst of creativity, and then I feel inspired to write. The point of this big long speech: find what motivates and encourages your creativity. That’s when the best works of art are created.

This is honestly my favorite one. I’ve always wanted to try it out, like maybe in one of my longer stories. Like, just having this really tough feminist girl teaching the guy how to sword fight, or kickbox or whatever. It just sounds really cool in my head.

Use the lyrics from your favorite song as a basis for a short story.

I hate short stories, so this is probably a good exercise. I’m thinking of maybe doing “House of Gold” by Twenty-One Pilots, “True Colors” by Anna Kendrick/Justin Timberlake, or “S.L.U.T.” by Bea Miller.
