mentioned how white americans do in fact have a common culture and they genuinely thought i was joking. culture isnt something only granted to the Cool People of Color. just feels like among progressive groups there's this dichotomy created in which only the virtuous oppressed minorities have culture and anyone who is privileged some sort of void cultureless being

Americans who say they don’t have a culture are plagued with defaultism beyond belief. Culture isn’t just made up of costumes and language and the largest stuff, it’s constructed of a billion small things you do every day that you never even consider could be different because that’s just “normal” to your daily life. No one has no culture just because they’re not adhering to the biggest markers they can consciously recognise.

The iceberg concept of culture: only 10% of what most people immediately think of as their culture is above the surface, and the deeper you go, the more emotional depth it gets.

I knew about the measles cases rising, but I didn't know about the pediatric flu deaths. And god, I'm furious at every rotten fuck who blew the election a year and a half ago. There have been so many preventable deaths from Trump 2.0--most notably those from USAID, of course--but these kids here in America, too, killed by terrible public health policies and/or their dumbass parents. Kids are getting measles and the flu and some babies are bleeding to death because their dog shit stupid anti-vaxx parents are refusing to give them vitamin K shots (not even a vaccine! It's a vitamin!). This is all in addition to thousands of people going through hell right now with an intestinal parasite that was around before, yes, but has never caused this many cases in the US before now. So much preventable suffering caused by people who couldn't put their butthurt grievances aside to support a liberal woman over a rapist pig who openly said he'd appoint lunatics like RFK Jr. to his cabinet. And those responsible for Trump's win do nothing but scream that this isn't their fault.

and it’s not that there’s no valid critique to be made of patronymic traditions, but it should be obvious why many women prefer to keep the identity they were born with instead of taking on their husband’s identity upon marriage. It’s almost like we have decades of life experiences, relationships, and self-conception tied to our names.
