so I did finish the finale last night, it was, as expected, insane. I totally called Denny dying though. I think one of my major takeaways is that, yes there is a lot of critique to be made about Shonda Rhimes and her media, most of which is not for me to really discuss in depth as a white woman, but holy shit I can really see how these early seasons of Grey's Anatomy were so revolutionary in terms of topics and representation at the time (when I was in high school). They're some of her best writing and showrunning in my opinion, Netflix really isn't the best medium for the expansive multi-layered style she's really best at. You need 27 episodes for this shit.

wow so I really wonder how much more messed up my views on sex and intimacy would have been had I regularly consumed media like Grey's, and the OC and Desperate Housewives when it was actually on and I was in middle/high school. Like so much of the discussion surrounding sex and sexual activity is so completely focused on the wholesome/dirty dichotomy where if something is in the slightest bit outside the charmed circle (Rubin, 1980) it is dirty and slutty and lascivious when in reality most of this is just like very normal and in fact quite boring sex and relationship stuff??

so I did finish the finale last night, it was, as expected, insane. I totally called Denny dying though. I think one of my major takeaways is that, yes there is a lot of critique to be made about Shonda Rhimes and her media, most of which is not for me to really discuss in depth as a white woman, but holy shit I can really see how these early seasons of Grey's Anatomy were so revolutionary in terms of topics and representation at the time (when I was in high school). They're some of her best writing and showrunning in my opinion, Netflix really isn't the best medium for the expansive multi-layered style she's really best at. You need 27 episodes for this shit.

so I did finish the finale last night, it was, as expected, insane. I totally called Denny dying though. I think one of my major takeaways is that, yes there is a lot of critique to be made about Shonda Rhimes and her media, most of which is not for me to really discuss in depth as a white woman, but holy shit I can really see how these early seasons of Grey's Anatomy were so revolutionary in terms of topics and representation at the time (when I was in high school). They're some of her best writing and showrunning in my opinion, Netflix really isn't the best medium for the expansive multi-layered style she's really best at. You need 27 episodes for this shit.

I think one of my major takeaways is that, yes there is a lot of critique to be made about Shonda Rhimes and her media, most of which is not for me to really discuss in depth as a white woman, but holy shit I can really see how these early seasons of Grey's Anatomy were so revolutionary in terms of topics and representation at the time (when I was in high school). They're some of her best writing and showrunning in my opinion, Netflix really isn't the best medium for the expansive multi-layered style she's really best at. You need 27 episodes for this shit.

I'm honestly pretty disappointed that Arizona is all of a sudden "we'll have tons of kids, it'll be great!" when literally two episodes ago she very explicitly said that this was not a problem that needed to be fixed, she didn't need children to feel fulfilled.
