Endless Gifs Of Arthur Morgan (44/?) The Course of True Love III
How much harm have they done to this man for him to think that with that face, that body, that heart, he is someone ugly, stupid and difficult to love?
I love how Arthur's dialogue changes between high or low honor. For example, when he has low honor, he'll cut off Tilly's goodbye short and tell her not to start with "that crap," whereas high honor he still cuts her off but flashes a soft smile before saying "me too sweetheart me too." Or his goodbye to Sadie and Abigail, with low honor he pushes Abigail away when she attempts to hug him before telling them to go save Jack, with high honor he still pushes her away but calls them "good women... good people." And with John, if he has low honor, he'll tell John to "take it. It ain't no use to me now." (referring to his hat and satchel). Whereas high honor, he'll tell John that "It'll mean a lot to me." Obviously referring to him wanting the Marstons to live a long and happy life and for John to change.
something I don’t see discussed too often is the vein in which arthur morgan panics when being perceived. in one of the colter missions arthur mentions to charles the severity of their situation— riding out from blackwater, weathering the storm, etc. and charles aptly responds “you’ve had a lot put on you.” arthur then backpedals and is like “i didn’t mean it like that, just.. a lot to think back on.” or later in chapter 2, there’s jimmy brookes recognizing arthur from blackwater & calling him out. arthur denies the accusation repeatedly, but jimmy doesn’t let up. lying low is difficult with having any loose ends, so naturally arthur chases him down. after choosing to rescue the guy from the cliff edge, jimmy commends arthur for saving his life and refers to him as “a good man.” the look arthur gives to this is like a switch being flipped. again, he backpedals, despite the added risk of being recognized, now reaffirming that he was not only in blackwater but a bad man who kills people. it’s pocketed moments like these that really put a spot on arthur’s insecurities. ones that chip away at the armor. he’s the right hand man in a gang— a surrogate family— the one who’s supposed to project strength when tumult falls upon them. he can’t been seen as anyone buckling under the pressure. arthur also has an innate goodness that’s lost in the fog of his misdeeds he believes define him. he should never be called a good man. arthur has a reflexive retreat when people peer beneath the surface level. it challenges the narrative he’s built around himself, the identity he’s convinced himself he must uphold. he wraps that persona around himself like a warm blanket & stretches that blanket thin because that’s all he understands. that’s all he knows. that’s all his life has allowed him

@yokosetikarawo
im not saying that it would be fair of Arthur to ask of Mary to join his gang, and he knew that himself. I understand why Mary didn't.
And I'm not saying that Arthur got over her either, it's just that in his eyes he had to let go of her because that's what she asked of him to do. He respected her choice.
You're saying that Mary asked Arthur for help because she couldn't ask anyone else when it came to Jamie. But what about her father?
Do you not think that it's cruel to ask of Arthur to help her dad after all the things he's said and done to him? Arthur commented that himself and as soon as he confronted her about it she shut it off by saying "Arthur be kind to me" which immediately made him feel guilty and apologise.
Mary expects him to meet her in the middle, but she forgets the fact that Arthur's isn't just in the gang for the sake of it, like he has no ties to it. That gang is his family and you would think that she'd understand that more considering all the things she would do for her own family.
They care for each other, but NEITHER of them were willing to meet in the middle. Like I said Mary expected him to change TOO much and Arthur wouldn't change at all
By moving away and living on a ranch or whatnot, they are both leaving their families and they are both giving up responsibilites and lives to create a new one. She is leaving behind her brother and father whom she loves, he is giving up the gang, and maybe not even that, John was able to go and come back, Hosea too back in the days, he might not travel with them but he could maybe come see them now and then, if she left she would be completely cut off by her father.
And as for her father, it doesn't matter if he likes Arthur or not because Arthur is not there because of him but because of her. He is helping her because she is a woman in 1800 where flying your dirty laundery is basically a death sentence so she turns to him knowing he won't judge her and he sees that too. If he doesn't help her, no one else will and she will be affected by that, he doesn't want to save her father, he wants to save her.
this was a reply to the other post and it is also great, recommended read
This also makes me think of the very real situation of two people having enough respect for each other to help out and uphold promises even

Is anyone having trouble with the Broken Silence update on PS4??
I only have the base game and want to play with base customization... but if it's too buggy rn I can wait until it's patched to update.
Playing The Long Dark again. Voyageur because stalker wolves are stupid and loper is a big no.
Going for the Faithful Cartographer achievement. Day 160-something and I've got 51% of the map explored.
Started in coastal highway and couldn't find tools so hopped up to Pleasant Valley. Kicked around there for a bit to prep then went to Timberwolf, did the summit, mapped Ash Canyon and got the backpack and crampons. Finished mapping PV and cut through CH to do Desolation Point and came back.
I've got two more spots in coastal highway, then I'm heading the Mystery Lake. Mountain Town is such a pain to go back and forth to, so that and HRV will probably be a quick necessities-only trip.
Planning to finish up in the hunting lodge in Broken Railroad.
Also I just learned they'll be making a sequel. It looks amazing.
I also just learned that the latest update added base building.
I don't have the 15gb of space it need T_T

Someone on the Fallout 4 subreddit asked for hot takes and I had the VERY colorful opinion that people should let Hancock be ugly and that I HATE the "handsome" Hancock mods because this man ghoulified himself on purpose and wouldn't take a hypothetical cure if it didn't at least get him a little buzzed and let me tell you, the monster fuckers are CRAWLING out of the woodwork to agree with me. Me and like 2 other people are talking about how fuckable vanilla Hancock is and how our IRL partners call him our video game husband
I may have started something
Editing because I don't want to come off rude and upset people, I LOVE Hancock's concept art, especially his plasma flintlock. What I dont care for is people who choose to mod him human or "sexy" because they don't like the fact that he is a ghoul because ghouls are "gross and ugly". Feel free to do whatever you desire to your game, I just feel like people miss the point when all they care about changing is just to make him aesthetic and easier to look at
