“Shape as Form” features a major work from nine of Stella’s key series, thus providing a wide view of the artist’s development over the last fifty years. The show serves as a bit of a teaser for the upcoming retrospective at the Whitney. “Feltszyhn II” (1971) is an excellent example from Stella’s “Polish Village” series, which represented a key inflection point in the artist’s career when he began to shift from flat painting towards high relief and then overtly sculptural forms.
