I chose to volunteer at Camp Hual-Cu-Cuish because their dining was cafeteria style. At the other camps, the scouts perpared their own food & I was not about to dig into that slop......

Later, when we went back to San Diego, we took our daughter to Aunt Emma's, too

Some, perhaps middle school students, on Tumblr don't understand how the National Guard works. There are no FEDERAL active duty officers in the chain of command of the California Army National Guard. The two-star General, in charge, is appointed by the California Governor. I was never FEDERALIZED.

I served in this unit (Detachment 1 Company C 1/184th Infantry) & got out after six years as an (E-5) Sergeant. Our Armory had been in historic Columbia, California

Before that, I worked in the Intelligence Section of the Headquarters Company of the 3rd Battalion 3/185 Armor in San Diego
