FOR THE MILLENNIAL, BY A MILLENNIAL...
Creativity is in my blood. My mother, born in post WWII Warsaw, Poland, spent her youth at a top tier Polish University earning her Master’s Degree in Cinematography. My father, former American Hippie, excelled in The School of Arts and Design in New York City. To this day, it is rare you will find either of them in a public setting without one of their cameras draped around their necks and sitting at their hip. While it wasn’t always this way, I, as a millennial, have it much easier… my camera is always in my hand, pocket or purse; my phone.
When I was 19, my father made a deal with me; I could choose the Canon SLR digital camera of my liking and he will split the cost with me. I still have this camera, but my phone’s camera produces even better quality photos than the SLR we purchased together 14 years ago and adds the convenience of simply… always being available. In a sense, it gives the feel of having the freedom to work smarter not harder.
With that being said, I have the opinion that the Millennial Generation is one of the hardest working generations out there. We were raised by (likely) either the Boomer Generation or Gen X (equally as hard working), to get an education and work to support ourselves; many, if not most of us… do. What we were not prepared for growing up was inflation, comparative wealth gaps in reference to prior generations, The Great Recession…
But we are also boundary aware, tech savvy, opposers of ongoing equality gaps. We are the ones who learned the dance moves to the Macarena as soon as it came out. The ones who loved and then mourned Selena, Left Eye and Aaliyah. We watched planes hit our towers. We had starter cell phones the size of bricks. We kept calm and carried on. We were the ones who still played outside until the street lamps came on. In the end, we are the ones who have *Teresa Giudice table flipped* into our adulthoods. Tough, resilient, smart creators.
The BOLDNeutral purpose is to not only showcase and sell my photography prints and household designs, but to offer those of us just getting started in our creative careers a fresh, daring and distinguished logo design palette at price points us Millennials deserve and can afford.
