No it doesn’t. It doesn’t make sense at all. It takes the Earth 365.242 days to rotate around the sun. When the ancient Romans created the Julian calendar they rounded off to 365.25 days and added a leap year.  Problem is that rounded off .008 days caused the calendar to drift, that’s why Eastern Orthodox Christians who still use the Julian calendar celebrate Christmas on January 7th. In another 2,000 years they will be celebrating Christmas in late January or early February. The Gregorian Calendar was created to correct this flaw and readjust the calendar to reflect where the Earth is in relation to the sun. Also 8 years wasn’t “lost”. Ten days were “lost”. It’s still 2020 according to the Julian calendar, although it is May 21st in Julian days.
