I want to put into your mind the idea of Borrower Tim who helps the bats from the shadows, they all know what he is and he knows they know but they have a unspoken agreement to leave him be
Then one day well borrower Tim is trying to get some info for the bats he gets into a bad spot and has to find some way to get there help, his real hurt once the others find him and they can't just let him go...
Tim is not liking how close he has to be to all this giants, but Cass surprisingly is making him feel pretty safe at the moment
!! I LOVE this idea. I actually have a WIP that follows a very similar thread! :D
And Cass in particular is a great human for borrowers to be around because of her ability to read their body language. She can pick up exactly how nervous they are and adjust her own body accordingly, taking care not to loom or move too quickly around them. <3
I did end up writing a little drabble following this concept! Hope you enjoy!
Tim clutches the half-melted shard of ice to his ribs as he breathes, each inhale eliciting a new wave of white-hot pain. He can still feel phantom fingers, vicelike around his torso, squeezing and squeezing and squeezing, can still feel the creaking of his ribs and see the black spots clouding his vision.
He’d thought, for a fleeting moment, that they would just keep squeezing until his ribs gave in. And then Robin had appeared and punched his captor in the face with enough force to knock him out.
Tim would have made his getaway at that moment if not for two things: 1) Robin’s gloved hand appearing to catch him as he slipped from the finally-loosened fingers, and 2) the fact that moving his upper body in any capacity (an act which unfortunately included breathing) aggravated the effects of having been squeezed like a stress ball. Instead of vanishing into the shadows like he always did when in the proximity of one of the Bats, he had landed in an ungainly heap in Robin’s palm, curling inwards on himself and wheezing pitifully. Not his finest moment, really.
Robin had insisted on whisking him to one of the Bats’ safehouses to treat Tim’s injuries. Tim really wasn’t in the position to argue (not that that stopped him from trying). So here he is, sitting on a throw pillow, applying a makeshift ice pack (crushed ice wrapped in a paper towel, courtesy of Robin) to his undoubtedly-bruised ribs.
Various Bats have been cycling in and out throughout the night. Tim doesn’t like that. He’s not used to being the center of anyone’s attention, let alone a whole slew of overprotective vigilantes. His entire operation thus far has hinged on him being unnoticed, after all. And while the Bats have known about him for some time now, they almost never interface directly like this. Oracle had set him up with a modified mobile phone with one of those sliding keyboards, which he uses to type out and send information to a secured address.
And while he knows the Bats mean well, they’re also just…big. He doesn’t think they really get that. That no matter how heroic they are, they’re also humans, a fact that has Tim’s deeply-rooted borrower instincts screaming for him to get away. He’s not supposed to be seen. He’s not supposed to speak to them. He’s especially not supposed to be fussed over by them.
But it’s not like he has a way out of this situation, while there are omnipresent eyes on him, and while his ribs protest every breath he takes. So.
He sneaks a glance up at the Bat who’s in the room with him now. Orphan. She’s lounging in a chair across from the couch on which he’s perched, studying him from beneath her gold-lined hood. When she catches him staring at her, her eyes crinkle in what Tim thinks must be a smile—the lower half of her face is covered.
She taps her ribs, mirroring the spot where Tim is clutching the mostly-melted remains of his ice pack. “How are they?”
Tim looks down and shrugs. Bad, he does not say, because the word has somehow gotten lodged in his throat.
Orphan hums, then moves. She pushes herself off of the couch with a languid grace and moves towards the saferoom’s kitchen, footsteps completely silent. Tim can’t see what she’s doing from here, and he finds himself sinking back into his thoughts, going over the events of the night again and picking apart every mistake he’d made.
Then, suddenly Orphan is next to him. He jolts back, hand spasming around the soggy paper towel, as she looms beside him. Her eyes soften at Tim’s (admittedly embarrassing) reaction. She lowers herself down into a kneeling position, so that she’s no longer towering over Tim; her face is about at his eye-level now, a fact Tim is grateful for. (The Bats tend to loom a lot. He gets it’s kind of their thing, but he wishes he didn’t have to strain his neck too much to look up at them.) She extends one arm towards Tim, unfurling her fingers to reveal a fresh paper-towel-wrapped-ice-cube sitting in her palm.
Her hand alights right next to him on the pillow. Strangely, Tim doesn’t feel the usual tingling of faint alarm he gets when he’s in such close proximity to a human. He leans forward and swaps out the remaining scrap of paper towel for the fresh ice pack, then looks back up at Orphan to give her a little nod of thanks. Her eyes twinkle warmly as she steps back and returns to the couch, silent as ever.
Tim breathes a soft sigh of relief as he presses the fresh ice pack to his ribs. He sneaks another glance up at Orphan, who is still watching him.
This time, he offers her a shaky smile. Of all the humans he’s been around over the past few hours, this one’s company isn’t so bad.

Friends!! I am desperately trying to drag myself out of the throes of writer’s block and I come to you all with a humble request!
If you have any Batfam-related thoughts (g/t or otherwise), I kindly implore you to consider sharing them in my inbox and I may try to write a short drabble if the inspiration strikes 🙂↕️🙂↕️
i don't know if you like platonic/familial g/t (what would be the tag for that?) but i always think of tiny jason, for some reason unknown to me, and bruce buying him a bunch of those book nooks all with a variety of themes and places—like a miniature manor, a library, a street in a cute italian city—so he can hang out with him throughout the manor
hi, cazzle!! <3
i love g/t in every shape and form <3 you can just call it g/t, or specify platonic/familial if you wanted, but g/t isn't inherently romantic/sexual! it just describes the size dynamic :)
i'm very hyperfixated on superbat so most by brain juice is spent on them, but i have kicked around a few borrower batfam ideas either with all borrower batfam, or normal sized bruce and borrower batkids. @bobbinrobins wrote an excellent borrower batfam fic with human bruce and tiny batkids and i think about it often <3
bruce would be such a great borrower dad. adjusting the manor to his tiny kids, building special walkways and ladders so they can more easily traverse the huge spaces of the manor (once they trust him and alfred enough to come out in the open).
i actually got my first booknook for christmas (haven't built it yet cause i'm waiting til i'm moving) and they're soooo cute, i think about tineys hanging out in them all the time :3 bruce has such a great eye for detail, he'd make only the best for his little kids <3 especially in the library, which is jason's favorite room. i think he'd also set up a little digital tablet for jason's size so he can read whatever he wanted 🥺 not as good as reading physical books of course, but miniaturizing all the books in the library isn't exactly feasible lol

Yall @unbreakabledawn 's g/t agenda is too powerful someone stop me before I end up adding to my wip list again 😭 I can't keep thinking about Bruce or Clark as fairies who love their giant human!!!!!
clark as the last fairy of his race, size shifting into human size to pose as superman. befriending batman, and his fae heritage being revealed during a battle when he's drained of his powers and is returned to his tiny size.
fairy king bruce and his chivalrous knight clark.
fairy clark arriving in gotham to escape the destruction of the fae realm, being found by big scary batman.
superman rescuing little fairy bruce from a metropolis lab experimenting on magical creatures.
one day i'd loveee to write a fic based on battybat's gremlin bruce.... the tiny rascal has captured my heart
Are you doing this to torment me? You must be doing this to torment me GOD IM HAVING MORE IDEAS I CANT TAKE THIS ANYMORE AHHHHHHGGG
(battybat's art was also definitely a motivator lol. I too had a fic idea for it 🤭)
Fairy king Bruce with his really big knight.... lounging on his helmet when he's bored.... kissing his lips and flying away to hide soon after as if Clark won't catch him either way..... Clark taken in by fairy couple Jon and Martha so he's the only big guy in a town of fairies............. augh.
TINY CLARK WRAPPED UP IN BATMAN'S CAPE AND CARFIED AWAY FROM BATTLE..... BRUCE GENTLY CLEANING HIS WOUNDS WITH A Q-TIP AND BANDAGING HIM UP WITH HALF A STRIP OF BANDAGE........ AHHHHHHH
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
The next morning, it snows.
There’s a tiny window in their new space; it’s too high-up for them to have to worry about being spotted by someone from the outside, but it allows sunshine to stream in and dapple the walls with warm gold. It’s probably Dick’s favorite part about the closet, next to the central heating.
He wakes up, gets dressed, and pokes his head out to see that thick gray clouds are blanketing the sky and that fat, fluffy snowflakes are drifting down. A heavenly smell wafts in through the crack in the closet door. (Bruce had promised he’d never open it without permission; for now, it remains open just a sliver, enough for any of them to slip out, should they choose).
He enters the common room, where Damian and Cass are already up, watching the snowfall with wide eyes. The rest of his siblings slowly trickle in, hair mussed and eyes bleary from sleeping, but it’s Duke who first breaks the quiet, meandering stream of chatter with a declaration:
“It’s snowing!” The boy is bouncing on his heels, eyes bright despite having just rolled out of bed. “Can we go out and play? Please?”
Conversations are had, changes are made, and everything settles.
Here's a little sneak peek of the next chapter of Ground Bird's Nest! 👀 Enjoy!

It’s the youngest Dick has seen him look since he’s arrived, he thinks, and maybe that’s why he doesn’t refuse out of hand. He’s always shepherded his siblings away from snow in the past; in Gotham, when it snows, it tends to snow hard, blanketing the ground in layers of powder taller than they are.
But…he supposes that’s not as much of an issue now. Alfred has provided them all with hand-knitted warm outerwear and sturdier, waterproof footwear. They’ll have to be careful, of course, but even if something does go wrong, they have the resources to deal with it.
“Alright,” Dick says. “But breakfast first. And everyone needs to bundle up—and I mean every layer you can get on.”

Enjoy a little snippet of a WIP :) I think I mentioned awhile back that I had an idea for a Great Fairy Rescue AU, and that idea finally made its way out of my brain and into a document!
“Steph!” Tim practically shrieks, and before she knows it, a stack of buttons is being shoved into her arms, “Do you see that!”
“That”, as it turns out, is a sign pointing towards some kind of building, reading “Fairies Welcome.”
Steph’s skin begins to crawl as she looks between the sign and the building, which as it turns out, is a fairy-sized house.
“Tim,” she calls out, but Tim has already begun to race forwards, a trail of glittering pixie dust in his wake.
Tim is my friend, Stephanie repeats internally as she dumps the buttons and races to follow him. Tim is my friend and it would be bad for me to abandon him in an obvious trap, even if he’s being a big dumb idiot.
“Tim, get out of there right now—”
“Whoa—what is that?” comes Tim’s response, and Stephanie can’t stifle the urge to smack her palm with as much force as she can muster against her forehead any longer.
Alright. If Tim doesn’t want to listen to her, she’s just going to have to make him realize the stupidity of his actions some other way.

I indeed do! Many of them are variations of borrower AUs; I'll list a couple that have been floating around my brain.
Dick, Jason, Tim, and Cass (possibly also Steph and Babs in this one?) are all borrowers. Damian, whose origin is his canon origin, is dropped off by Talia, where he begins to train. With no precedent for a partner in crime-fighting, Bruce flounders as he figures out what to do with his child, whom he didn't know existed. Damian, who already knows about the existence of borrowers, quickly clocks the existence of a handful of them living in his father's house. Without any of them really posing a threat to his spot by Bruce's side, I think he'd have a great deal of respect for their resolve (especially with them being as endangered as they are), and quickly grow protective of them. The borrowers don't understand who this child is and why he insists on plying them with food and supplies, while also hiding them from the other beans in the house, but they're along for the ride. Dick is caught between his big brother instincts and his distrust of beans (the brother instincts win out, of course).
Borrower Tim who, upon hearing about Jason's death and Bruce's subsequent downwards spiral, decides to break the biggest borrower rule and reveal himself to Dick and/or Bruce in order to plead that Dick become Robin once again. Everyone is very concerned about this tiny child with a startling lack of regard for his own well-being. I think the family dynamics would be really fun to play around with; Tim would never become Robin, although he might insist on helping with case analysis (and occasionally stow away on patrol when Bruce isn't paying attention). At some point when he manages to stow away he meets Stephanie as Spoiler who becomes ecstatic at the possibility of having a teeny pal. Without Tim ever having been Robin, Jason and Damian are quickly endeared to him (somewhat begrudgingly, perhaps) upon their arrivals.
I would be remiss if I didn't also mention one of @unbreakabledawn's AUs that has been living in my brain as well. In addition to a fantastic SuperBat AU where Bruce is a borrower living in the Kent farmhouse (check it out here!), they've discussed an AU where Bruce and his kids are borrowers living in Clark's apartment. I love this concept so much! Bruce being a tiny helicopter dad to his tiny children who are determined to be menaces and get into as much trouble as they can. Clark being the gentlest "human" in the world who has an endless amount of concern for his tiny neighbors. Clark slowly endearing himself to Bruce until they end up falling for one another. <3
Thank you for the ask! If you all have any thoughts on AU ideas, I would love to hear them as well! :)
you can never have too many borrower AUs 🙏 hi again i just also wanted to mention THIS wonderful genius idea with borrower!Bruce and borrower!Barbara and human Dick and Jason. tiny parent Bruce corralling human kids is sooo funny to me. he won't let something as inconsequential as a 5 foot size difference stop him from adopting every kid on the block :)
Bruce doing his very best to help Dick & Jason with their homework despite borrowers having very little knowledge of what's being taught in american schools
Dick & Jason being the first kids to live there in a long while, and Barbara finally making friends (somewhat) her own age. she likes to steal borrow their snacks (they pretend not to notice)
Barbara and Dick teaching each other acrobatic moves (very different for a borrower vs a gymnast)
Jason is the first one to notice the borrowers in the apartment, bc of his earlier days of pickpocketing he learned how to be sneaky. he exchanges tips and techniques with Bruce and Barbara
Bruce takes an interest in all the books Jason's constantly reading, and sometimes reads out loud for him. Jason thinks it's the cutest thing ever, falling asleep to Bruce's slightly high pitched voice <3 eventually he sneaks Bruce into the library in his backpack so Bruce can pick out a book for them to read together

hi I just wanted you to know that your borrower Bruce and his borrower kids + human Clark idea has absolutely infected my brain in the best way possible <3 Bruce trying to be ultra-protective but none of his kids listen and keep sneaking out to see the cool human and his cool human stuff!!! Clark is, of course, always exceedingly gentle with them and Bruce begrudgingly begins to acknowledge that maybe he’s not such a bad human after all!! Please consider: the kids recognizing the pining for what it is before either Bruce or Clark do and trying to pull some parent trap-esque shenanigans to get them together!!
ahh wow i'm so excited that you like this silly little idea!! i think about borrower batfam often and it's high on my list of things i want to write but it's a long list and i am very slow 😭
Bruce is a fierce mother hen who keeps a close eye on his rabble of borrower kids, but he's trained them too well in the ways of borrowing and they frequently manage to slip away probably because he's busy trying to herd one of the other of his ten thousand kids. bruce why do you have so many kids.
they loveee sneaking out and exploring the apartment and competing about who can borrow the coolest item. the thing is they're so well-trained, they would never have been discovered if Clark wasn't Clark - maybe he moves just a little bit too fast into a room, maybe he catches the whisper of a tiny borrower voice, maybe he sees the patterns of tiny shoes left in the dust on a shelf. i think it takes a while before Bruce and the others realize they've been discovered - otherwise they would've moved immediately, as all borrowers do when they've been Seen. but when it happens, it's extremely apparent that Clark wants nothing more than to help them and get to know them, if they'll allow him. the kids fall for his charm pretty quickly, but Bruce takes a while to warm up to him. but yes Clark is so gentle and good with the kids and they all love him and that is pure catnip to Bruce hehe <3
omg you're a genius a parent trap plot would be sooo fun in this au. i'm imagining the kids stealing Bruce's stuff and leaving it where Clark can find it so either Clark has to return it to Bruce, or Bruce has to go looking for it himself and risks running into Clark. or Bruce going borrowing with his kids and one of them "accidentally" catching Clark's attention in some way by pretending to fall or dropping a tool. would love to workshop that into the plot, ty for the idea!!
they are little menaces, but they are Clark's and Bruce's menaces <3

“Stop!” He tries to sound authoritative, but his voice cracks embarrassingly. He clears his throat and tries again: “Stop.”
“Damian,” Cass says, her eyes pleading. It makes Damian ache, but he can’t stop now.
“I’m not like you,” Damian spits out. They deserve to know the truth. “I’m…I’m not…”
