lorelai vc: this place is a freakshow i literally respect none of you people
donutbadgeâ:
There arenât many people wandering the Run today.Â
Not like a heatwave and a horsefly swarm do much to make going outside inviting. The few that are out gather in small groups on rickety porches or wherever thereâs shade. They donât do much, neither. âCept watch her. None of them look the type for tiny toy horses; all scraggly beards and sun-dried skin and sunken, tired eyes that glare daggers through a city-slicker whenever she starts getting a little too close. They speak in hushed tones, but only when theyâre sure she canât hear them. Otherwise, they choose to stare and scowl.
The sun shines down a town thatâs far too cold for summer. Â
The only remotely approachable looking figureâs the sheriff sat in the square, doodling in the sand. The ground around Redwoodâs wellâs been thoroughly covered in his handiwork. That being a bunch of shaky lines, with only a few barely creating unnameable shapes.Â
Chicken-scratch might be overselling it a little.Â
But thatâs ok! Heâs proud of it anyway.
He pauses only to check on his drawing tool. Big hands obscure what heâs using exactly - but itâs definitely not a branch. Too short for that, and not the right color. More of a faded, sun-bleached pink than brown. He flips it in his palms a couple times - and thatâs when he spots her.Â
He doesnât get up - but he does wave her a friendly how-do-you-do. He turns back to his âworkâ, and the tiny star pinned to his vest flashes, briefly, in the sunlight.Â
She really didnât like this place. The environment was awful enough- bugs flying around, heat being almost unbearable, and the glares from the people outside didnât help. After a certain point- she realized there was no reason to approach them. They clearly didnât want her here- if theyâd ordered these tiny horses- they sure didnât want these tiny horses.
Maybe they just wanted to get away without paying...
Or maybe they just wanted to ruin her day by having her come out to the middle of nowhere carrying a crate of tiny horses only to eventually just leave. She was pretty sure that wasnât the case- but still.
Once her arms started getting tired- a quick augment instantly brought them back to working order. She tossed the tub in her arms a few times- trying to bring a bit of feeling back, and continued on.
She chose not to look back as she continued on. She could sure as hell hear them- if not too clearly, though. Her epithet was based around sound after all- and rabbits did have good hearing. But if she registered anything said about her, she sure didnât show it. She hadnât really heard that much worse, but hey- retail customers sucks.
Upon reaching the town square- she didnât really know how to react. A well. Huh. A weird guy. Bigger huh. She gave a brief glance down at the chicken scratch- mostly trying to understand anything written down. Not a thing. Whatever.
At least- with the wave, he seemed somewhat friendly. And the glistening star on his vest...
âAre you the sheriff?â Lorelai asks, plainly. âWe got a delivery order from the Blyndeff Toy Emporium from here- and Iâm looking for the person who ordered it. Do you happen to know who that person is?â
@donutbadge
This was stupid. This was stupid and she hated it. There were bugs everywhere- it was all dirty, she didnât wanna be here like at all.Â
But she had to.
Because âit was her goddamn jobâ.
HER JOB THAT SHE DIDNâT WANNA DO- DAD. So now she was out in the middle of nowhere- in this stupid town- carrying a large box. She really did hope she was getting paid extra, but she wouldnât hold her breath. Why did she agree to do deliveries again? Why did they decide that having deliveries would be a good idea?
Brushing a few bugs away from her face, Lorelai walked into the town. Luckily her scooter would probably be fine- though sheâd have to pick up some wood-chips out of it later, but this was ridiculous.
Glancing around- she noted that no one seemed to be rushing out to get their things. Yet. She had her apron on that very obviously read âBlyndeff Toy Emporiumâ, so it was weird that no one seemed to notice. Or maybe they just hasnât been the ones to order it.
She didnât really know what the situation that phone call took place under- but she was here now, carrying a large box of tiny toy horses and the like.
But one thing was for sure!
She was absolutely irritated.
if anyoneâs interested in a short starter, please like or reblog this post!Â
Preferably- put a location in the tags for where they could interact. You donât have to, but Iâll get to the ones that did faster.
If you donât, Iâll probably just assume theyâre entering the store.

â Well⌠like I had said before, when I first told you- Iâm going to be taking my friend Sylvie to that one icecream shop we used to go to all of the time. You know⌠â She begins to trail off, and looks to the side a little discouraged to continue.Â
â When we were more like a family I suppose⌠eheheh.. ehhhh. Anyway, itâs important to me and important to him. You get that right? With how popular you are⌠and all of the friends that you haveâŚâ
She manages a small smile after that, maybe she shouldnât have made a⌠well- slight jab at her sister like that. But it wasnât fair, Lorelai always tried to weasel out of her shift somehow. Molly knew to try and make her plans more in advance but this was sadly one of those last minute things. Well, last minute for the type of schedule she held.Â
Lorelai listened for a moment, briefly taking out her phone to scroll through messages. She was listening- of course. Mostly. Though she glanced back over when she mentioned the icecream shop. Lorelai remembered that place. They had some pretty good stuff. She couldnât remember the last time sheâd had ice cream. Theyâd been a bit too busy for that- right?
âWhen we were more like a family.âÂ
That made Lorelai pause. She tucked her phone into her pocket, eyes narrowing slightly. âWe are a family, Molls. âs not anyoneâs fault that weâve just been... busy.â She gives a small shrug of the shoulders, still frowning. âI mean, I guess. Is that his first time going to that place?? I mean... I guess itâs important.â She pressed a hand to her chin, thinking.
She could only vaguely remember the first time they went to that place- it was a while ago. But Lorelai knew that it was pretty exciting. âYeah, I mean- the first time going somewhere new is always kinda important.â She avoided Mollyâs âpopularâ comment. Usually- sheâd eat that kinda thing up, Lorelai knew she was pretty popular... but that didnât really matter too much right now.
But she did have a point. That was kinda important- especially if this Sylvie kid was a new friend. âYeah, I guess.â She sighed, offering a hand out. An offer to take the apron. She really didnât like it- but... Itâd be a quick shift, right?
becrtrapâ:
â ËËá´ĽËË â
â Waitâ what? Lorelai, you agreed to work this shift because I have plans today. So⌠I mean I kind of really do mind this time. Sorry⌠â
Even though Lorelai had already dropped the apron into Mollyâs hands, she still felt like persisting. Granted this was something planned like two days ago her sister had agreed on working today. Molly just hopes that she wonât⌠walk out, because there was no way the child would leave the store unattended. Not when it was the only source of income for their family.Â
âI get that, Molly. But like- plans change really easily!â She gave a small huff- turning back to look at her sister with a brief flash of annoyance across her face. Though, she paused, and her expression softened a bit.
... Lorelai did promise...
â... I mean, what do you even have planned? You told me like a day ago- it canât be that important? What- is it a school thing?â Sheâs a little confused. âI mean- I get that school pops up kinda suddenly, but what is it? I can stay if itâs important, but like...â She trailed off- not really finishing that statement.
@becrtrapâ
âI dunno what you mean! Oh, actually- glad youâre here! Could you take over my shift? Iâm gonna be super busy later- you donât mind, right? Okay thanksies!â
She drops the apron that sheâd been âpreparingâ to put on- though, we all know she wasnât really planning on wearing it- into Mollyâs arms, without waiting for a reply.
Masu here! Turns out- I donât have any self control!
