âYeah, those things! Like the ones they have in those display cases in the hallways. And honestly, Iâm not sure? You can probably buy one online, I bet. You can buy anything online.â She shrugged, an easy grin on her lips. âOh, I see. That sucks that you fight a lot, but yeahâŚIn the end, thatâs what really matters. I donât think my brother and I have ever really fought, but we donât clash a lot. I just wish we were closer, but I love him a lot. I donât think Iâd be able to survive without him, either. Not again, anywayâhe disappeared once, and I donât want him to do that again, yâknow?â
âAgreed. I know, right? It sounds like another ball to me, like the ones Iâve been to before, but thereâs something different about this thatâs exciting. Maybe itâs âcause itâs with classmates? Wait, you were gonna make your dress? Thatâs impressive,â she responded, snapping her fingers as ideas came to her mind. âAw, but you should go! I donât see why anyone wouldnât want to ask you, but you donât even have to go with a date, I think; you could just find a group of friends and go with them! Or, or, you could find a someone and ask them to go as friends. Iâd love to see you there. I think itâd be a lot more fun if you were there, too. And about the dressâif youâre really worried about that or if you donât have time to make or itâs too much trouble, you can always borrow one of mine! I donât mind at all.â
âHuh⌠Thatâs true. You can buy practically anything online. You can buy, like, three-course-meals and vintage toys and puppies and private islands⌠The internet is a crazy place.â Lilo chirped, shaking her head slightly. To be quite honest, she wasnât as technology-crazy as many of her classmates - she had an iPhone but usually preferred her good olâ Polaroid over it - but, still, she did occasionally enjoy surfing the net. Besides, computers were definitely helpful when it came to her assignments and researching things for her classes. Nodding her heads, a wistful smile appeared on her lips as she replied with, "I mean, we need to stick by each other⌠Sheâs all I have, and Iâm all she has, y'know? Weâre sisters, weâre family, weâre each otherâs ohana. Oh, okay, I see⌠Well, I mean, you should tell him how you feel! Go and do sibling-ly things together, like, uh⌠Well, something you both like to do! Like, uh... Maybe video games?"
"Yeah, it'll be loads of fun 'cause all of our friends will be there! And, well, I was thinking 'bout it... I've made dresses before, but nothing as extravagant as a gown or anything. But, y'know, if I get the right patterns and come up with a really good idea... I think I can do it." Lilo explained, feeling a little bit cautious about it all. She knew that fashion and clothes meant a lot to the girls at this school, and she wanted to make the right impression. However, she couldn't afford to spend too much money on a dress... There were other things that she had to pay for, like her meals and her daily necessities and other things that were more important. Money wasn't so tight anymore, but Lilo had learned that frugality was important and that saving up money in the bank was crucial for her future. She had to think of a cheaper alternative to buying a fancy gown at the store. "'Ya think so? I dun'no; all the boys in Kaua'i thought that I was weird. I don't think the boys here think any different. And, yeah, I guess that'd work too... And that could work too, yeah! And would'ya really do that for me, Kiara? Really? I may just take you up on that offer... Y'know, if this whole making my dress thing doesn't work out. But only if it doesn't." Â
