Rocket just didn’t have the HEIGHT to square up to taller idiots.  Instead, he crossed his arms and held his ground as usual, refusing to break eye contact with Yondu. “First of all, her name is GAMORA.  I know that Ravagers ain’t used t’seein’ broads a whole lot, but have a lil’ respect, Papa Smurf.”

“I know her name,” Yondu replied flatly as he continued to gaze down at the smaller one. “But she is the piece of ass my boy insists on chasing. An’ I know where her daddy makes his intentions clear, my boy is either gonna wake up to the fact that no piece of tail is worth that, or he’s gonna wind up dead. Better for him to learn it now.”

   “What part of forget it did you not understand old man? Can we just drop it and pretend I never even brought the whole goddamn thing up? Jesus friggin’ christ. See, this is why I hate talkin’ about shit with you sometimes!” 

“Givin’ me a damn migraine old man, ugh!”

 “I would’t let that happen Yondu. I’d kick everyones ass to keep you safe man. You know I would…” Peter promised. As if he’d let anyone hurt his dad. “They’d have to go through me first.” 

“And hey, I-….I mean what I said Yondu. Thank you for teaching me how to lie out here….I owe you everything.”

“I taught you how to survive the life, boy, nothing more, nothing less,” Yondu said flatly. Raising Quill had not been his most well-done task, but the boy wasn’t dead, so he figured he did something right.

    Peter’s left eye twitched ever so slightly, an old tell that he was perhaps two seconds from breaking all kinds of hell up in here. “For the last time Yondu she’s not-…just stop that.” He growled under his breath. “You know what? You’re right. It was a stupid idea anyways.”

“Forget it.” Quill half seethed out between bared teeth. 

“What are we supposed to do, Boy? Go on a nice family dinner and act like civilized folk? You an’ I both know that ain’t gonna happen an’ even if we try, you know I’ll fuck it up.”

 “Well you aren’t wrong there.” Peter grumbled under his breath. They were all gone now so technically it was true. The younger sighed and slumped on a nearby stood, rubbing a hand through his messy hair. 

“…I owe you a lot Yondu…I know that. If not for your hardassery, I would’ve never made it on my own out here. But still. Ain’t a crime to be soft y’know? At least sometimes.”

“If my crew has taught me anything it’s that sometimes, it’s alright to dig some heart out from the shit pile on top of it you get me?” 

“Do you know what happens when I get seen as getting soft? They’ll come for me. I have enemies, Boy, and they want nothing more than to come at me and cut me down.”
