“    maybe    …    ”    marinette  trails  off,    bluebelle  eyes    WIDE    as  she  watches  the  fight  scene  unfold  in  front  of  her.    if  he  wasn’t  here    -    she’d  be  off  already    !    hiding  in  a  corner,      going  to  change  into  ladybug,    helping  out  chat  noir    -    but  now  it’s  the  other  way  around,    and  she  just  has  to    WATCH    chat  noir  fight.    she  feels  useless    !    and  she  can’t  stand  it.      “    try  to  get  away  from  the  scene,    to  safety    ?    ”        and  then  they  could    SEPARATE    and  she  could  finally  transform.  

A  YAWN  ESCAPES  HER    chapped  lips,    her  gloved  hand  covering  it  before  she  lays  back  down  on  the  roof  with  an    UMPH    escaping  her  lips.      “    maybe  we  should  cut  it  short  today,    chaton.    patrol,    i  mean.      ”      ladybug’s  eyes  close,    the  setting  of  the  sun    ON  FIRE    behind  her  closed  lids.    clearly  her  sleep  schedule  was    NOT  AS  WELL  PLANNED    as  she  had  hoped,    and  even  tikki’s  luck  was    just  barely    keeping  her  up.        “      —    either  that,    or  i  might  need  to  take  a  trip  to    la  café    before  we  move  on.      ”      

                  eyes  widen  in  concern,    her  earrings  are    BEEPING    but    …    there’s  still  people  who  need  to  be  saved    !    she  covers  her  ears  running  off  to  a  corner  and    already  feeling    the  de-transformation  into  her  normal  self.    she’ll  have  to  find  something  to  eat,    and  fast;    marinette  places  tikki  gently  in  her  purse,    before  running  around      (    the    other  side    of  the  corner    )      and  promptly  running  into  another  person.        “    oh  mon  dieu,    i’m  so  sorry    !    uhm    …      ”      she’ll  trail  off,    bouncing  on  the  balls  of  her  feet.    well,    you  can’t  just    STAND    there,    mari.          “      –    crazy  day,    huh    ?    gotta  wonder  what’s  keeping  our  heroes  busy.      ”      

       marinette  truly  doesn’t  have  it  in  them  to  STOP  ladybugging  ,   it’s  simply  a  part  of  her ,   even  when  not  in  paris  .   still  ,   she  keeps  it  lowkey  ,   stays  in  the  shadow  ,   even  uses  the  darker  version  of  her  suit  in  new  york  .   her  fighting ?  usually  more  localized  ...  unless  hawkmoth  made  an  american  friend  .   that  would  be  terrible  .     “  the  woes  of  being  the  only  friend  who  is  always  running  late  ,   huh ?  ”   she  says  with  a  nod  ,   french  accent  leaving  the  regularly  clothed  hero  ,   and  scratches  their  head  for  a  moment  .     “  merci  ,  ”   they’ll  mutter  ,   head  ducking  down  for  a  moment  before  she  sits  herself  down  .   and  eyes  flicker  to  his  work  ,   curiosity  flashing  in  her  bluebelle  eyes  ,   head  tilting  .    “  that  seems  ...  very complicated  .  ”  

      eyes  will  narrow  ,   but  it  feels  different  this  time  .   a  bit  more  lighthearted  ,   a  bit  more  friendly  .   it  was  new  ,   too  .   but  also ?  kind  of  nice  .     “  ...  who  are  you  and  what  have  you  done  with  the  chloe  i  detested ?  ”   still  ,   they’ll  take  the  seat  ,   curious  what  the  blonde  has  to  say  ...  wonders  if  she’s  about  to  be  lectured  .   that  would  certainly  be  a  turn  of  events  .     “  and  you  know  i  would  never  think  any  such  things  about  you  guys !  ”  

                ladybug  wants  everyone  to  pause    for  a  moment;    remember    -    she’s  a  superhero  of    PARIS.    she  was  born  and  raised  there,    knowing  each  turn  of  the  corner  and  the  road  like  the  back  of  her  hand.    new  york  city,    on  the  other  hand    ?    well    -    the  only  thing  she  knows  about  the  city  is  that  there’s  a  lot  of  traffic,    and    supposedly    spiderman  lived  here.    so  she  likes  to  think  she’d  be  cut    SOME  SLACK    when  she  runs  into  another  person,    right    ?      an      “    oomph    ”      escapes  her  lips  at  the  contact,    but  slender  hands  automatically  reach  out  to  steady  the  other.        “      sorry  about  that    !    i    swear,    i’m  not  usually  this  clumsy.      ”      in  costume,    anyways.    

                    at  least,    ripe  with  the  age  of    NOT  THIRTEEN    -    marinette  dupain-cheng  has    finally    learned  how  to  string  a  single  sentence  around  the        (    still  quite  possibly,    love  of  her  life      )      model  of  her  generation.        “    heeeeey,    adrien    !    ”        and  it  may  mean  some  words  are  more  drawn  out  than  others  when  she  speaks  to  him,    but    …      you    win  some    and  you    lose  some    when  you’re  twenty,    dontcha    ?    she’s  finally  let  her  hair  down      (    on  some  days,    more  likely  than  not    -    it’s  in  a  messy  bun  or  ponytail      ),    and  it  swings  by  her  cheeks  as  she  jogs  to  catch  up  with  him.        “      how's    school    ?    paris  since  ladybug  and  cat  noir  went  into  retirement  ?  and  yes  -  i'm  bacxk  for  the  summer  !      ”

              okay  so,    she  knows  she’s  from    PARIS,  FRANCE      (    and  a  superhero,    no  less    )    -    but  this  little  field  trip  to  new  york  city    ?    it  may  or  may  not  have    her  vibrating    with  each  step  she  takes.    paris  is  glamorous,    she  loves  her  city,    even  risks  her  life  for  it  on  the  daily  basis;    oh,    but  new  york  city    !?    perhaps  she  wouldn’t  live  here,    but  it  is  glamorous  in  its  own  right.        “      oh  mon  dieu    –      ”      marinette  murmurs,    bluebell  eyes    gazing  around    before  her  eyes  land  on  a  particular  person ahead.        “    excuse  me    !      ”      and  the  small  teen    bounds    towards  her,    bright  grin  on  her  lips.        “      hi,    do  you  live  here    ?      ”    

“  EXCUSE ME,  COULD I INTERRUPT YOU FOR  a moment  ?   ”   marinette approaches the other,  the friendliest smile that they can muster up on their pink lips.    “   i needed some opinions on these  …  OPTIONS  i’ve made for a portfolio.  if you have the time,  could you give me yours  ?   ” 

          “  hey  -   just  a  quick  question :   do  you  like  macaroons ?  ”
