Soul shards, also known as glienetias/glietens are pieces of a soul. They are found in those who have or are to reincarnate. An example of a species known for this is the irinic stratiotes Irinic stratiotes have gems , which are physical manifestations of their souls and are connected to their hearts. If that gem is destroyed its an insta-kill as all their hearts are disabled. When an irinic stratiote is in a comatose state usually passing out a piece of their gem falls and becomes a 'soul' to whatever life it will live. once that life dies the shard goes back to the gem.
