This Au is set along a time line that starts when Evil Morty (Em) is running the Citadel as a fourteen year old, still scanning Rick's brains for the plans to escape the curve.Ā
He finally starts to piece together the plans to escape the curve and just needs C-137ās brain, but while sorting through all the memories he took from other Ricks he finds a common denominator that they all (or most) despise, Rick Prime.Ā
It fascinates Em that Rick could hate one version of himself the most. He gets curious and eventually finds out about the Omega Device.Ā
Em needs that, that would fix all his problems (he believes) and keep him in a position of power over everyone including Rick, with those plans, heāll never have to worry about Rick again.Ā
But that's going to take time and a team he can both use and trust with tasks he needs. He recruits a small council in the form of Morticia (Tish) who he meets when she sends in a letter to Emās science department after solving an equation he proposed to Mortys as an experiment. She explained it couldn't be solved because he didn't have a specific variable. He was so impressed he contactedĀ her and offered her a seat as his head of science division on the Citadel.Ā
And he propositioned Morty C-137 a seat. Mostly because heās close to Rick c-137 and he needs to keep an eye on him. However Morty actually ended up being a very helpful errand boy with this heroic tendency to travel the galaxy and multiverses, playing a sort of Hero Space Beth schtick. But Morty and Em clash IMMENSELY on ethics of politics and morals in general so Morty stays out of those.
and some minor members sprinkled in, but Morty and Tish are his right and left hand.
Into early adulthood it's going pretty good!
Eventually Em developed genuine affection for people around him and saw Morty beyond a link to C-137 and Morticia beyond someone who he can use as an idea board. Which takes time.
He still doesnāt tell either of them about the Omega Device.
Em hits a dead end in terms of Prime. To be honest running a citadel from teens into adulthood is stressful. Until he stumbles upon the info that Prime visits a certain Miami universe with a certain club. Em mentions the club off hand and Tish says she knows someone who works there, Miami Morty, or as she prefers, Mia!
Tish offers to get him in contact with Mia but that she rarely leaves the club, but she can give Mia a heads up that he's coming.Ā
Their first meeting isā¦awkward, to say the least. Tish had given a heads up to Mia about Em thinking theyād be cool and Visa Versa, but the two at face value, are everything they hate about the other and itās not a great first meeting. Mia finds Em incredibly arrogant and self absorbed. Feeling like Em is trying to act better than he is and is fake as plastic. And Em can't separate the fact that Mia, in his eyes, is a Morty when she claims she's not. He feels she's flaunting herself aroundĀ to be stared at when he doesn't know her circumstances at all.Ā
It actually isnāt until the third time that Em shows up at the bar (looking for more clues regarding Prime) that Mia makes fun of him. Says heās staking her and that he sure comes around a lot for someone who gave her shit before.Ā
When he goes to lie about why he's there she calls him out on his bullshit saying that politician act doesn't work on her and makes a comment that he looks like heās ālooking for somethingā, that sheās seen that look a thousand times from people who come in here.
She asks if heās the Morty of that one Rick with a shitty haircut and edgy sci-fi space guy act, Prime.
Em inquires more and Mia says this guy comes around often enough to be a regular. That he comes in here to meet with drug lords, get high and party like everyone else and is as cocky as Em acts.
But she can tell he's a little different from the other Ricks and gives her a weird vibe. He doesn't stay for long usually but when he does come around he asks for Mia to entertain him because she thinks he gets a kick out of a "Morty" putting on a show. (NOT AT ALL sexually, it's more like a jester playing up for a king, Prime makes fun of Mia and she knows that).Ā Ā
Shes an act, a thing Prime likes to laugh at.....she can be bait.
Bait, that's what she can be for Em. Ā
Em offers her a deal, he's open and honest for the first time in years (she can already call him out if he's not) telling her about the Omega Device, about his plan to get those blue prints, about how he knows how much she hates Ricks as much as he does (he managed to figure out she killed her Rick) and how this could get them out of this bullshit.
Getting these plans would keep them safe and at the end of the day that's all Mia wants.Ā
She agrees with A LOT of incentives, A LOT of saftey measures and agrees to Em's insane batshit plan.Ā
Mia quits the club but not before ensuring there's a way for Prime to contact her, which he does, and she does get in Prime's "good graces".
They have a very Meg and Hades from Hercules (the Disney movie) dynamic. He owns her and sees her as a pet. Prime actually uses Mia to get info on a citadel (Em knows this) and make sure the brat stays out of his way.
It's going great for a couple of years, they all genuinely care for one another. Em never thought he'd let himself get attached to anyone but he does. Mia and him develop actual feelings and that muddies some stuff, it makes moments of the core plan hard. But they can make it work, they have to.Ā
Em finds he actually really likes Miaās attitude. She talks to him in ways others donāt given his either frightening status of power or demeanor in general. Sheās also emotionally very smart, something he lacks in keeping up the act as stress piles on.
Ā He really cares about her and realizes he needs to find a way to act on getting the plans from Prime now, or he'll start doubting himself.Ā
He finds an opening when Morty keeps meddling in Prime's shipment of goods (unintentionally on Mortyās end, he's just taking out space pirates) and it becomes annoying. The wonder boy act is annoying to Prime a little too much. Prime hires some wannabe thugs to kidnap the space ranger and while everyone's distracted Prime gives Mia a drive for Ems implants to fuck with them.Ā
Mia explains to Em what Prime wants her to do and Em reassures her that they can use this and that this is the opening they need. Em needs to find a way into Primeās tech. And what better way than getting hacked? Hack the hacker.Ā
So Em takes the drive from Mia and downloads it.
Itās obviously not fine in the aftermath, Em thought he could handle the tech Prime threw at him (times make him kinda cocky) and the aftermath is a long and frustrating process of taking things out and putting them back in and sifting through what can be saved
But Em eventually finds a piece of code he can salvage from Prime. That's what he needs to find him.Ā
He manages to get into Primes files to get the device plans.Ā
Mia tells him they need to tell the others.Ā
They both do after rescuing Morty.
Morty and Tish eventually get roped in, Morty is PISSED, he's angry because he feels like his and Em's relationship has been one big lie from the start just so he could once again be some stupid link to another shitty Rick and that crushes him. He doesn't get that it's different now, it's been different for Em for years but Morty genuinely can't hear it and he dips for a while, saying he news time.Ā
Tish just feels sick, she's not good like Em isn't when it comes to emotions and being vulnerable. She feels like the trust is broken between them all and while sheāll stick around, she's insanely distant around them for the time being which breaks Mia's heart.Ā
Mia finally admits to Em that she can't do this anymore. That she can't keep lying and scheming and that isn't having the plans enough, why build it? Why poke a bear that wants you to leave him alone? That Em doesn't understand how awful Prime is and how they have enough now. they have each other and a place they belong that they built, they are safe now and have been without these weapon plans so why ruin that?Ā
She tells him she's done being used, that this thing between them did get complicated and will continue to be if Em keeps going after Prime. That if he really cares about her, he will accept that she's not doing this act of being a mole for Prime and him anymore. She's not being bait anymore.Ā
If Em loves her like she loves him, then heāll let this go.Ā
Em gets cold feet, he feels like if they stop now that it can all get taken away, he panics. He panics for safety, for Mortys and Tish whose trust and care he shattered. He doesn't think there's anything left to save.Ā
He calls Mia out. Saying all she cared about was being safe and jumping from one person to another to do it, that she saw a golden opportunity and dragged along him as a safety net like a leech, which he knows is wrong but he can't stop himself from saying it.Ā
That she doesn't love him, and never did.
That's the last thing he said to her.Ā
Prime eventually found out about Mia being a mole rat when he got alerted to someone stealing his plans. There are old plans anyway. He made new ones, and this version can erase specific Universes without erasing the person from every reality. Prime was always meticulous and more efficient than everyone.Ā
He tests out the Miami universe, Em was always attached to that one. The kids old enough to learn aĀ lesson or two about fucking with him.Ā
And just like that it's like the Miami universe never existed at all.
The aftermath is pretty insane. It mentally ruins Em, he spirals and looks for any way to change it, like Rick did when Diane died, he loses himself trying to find a way to bring her back. He can't find it. He starts looking for Prime.Ā
Morty came back to find Tish had taken over as head of the Citadel after being unable to stop Em from the breakdown he had. She says she doesn't know where he went and that everything is falling apart. Morty contacts Summer to help Tish, asking her to look after her while he goes after Em.
Memory Mia's design is based on when Morty eventually finds Em and begs him to let him help him. Em is so far out of his head and lague now he agrees.
Morty takes Em to his Rick (c-137) and Rick gives the kid a long talk about losing yourself when someone you love gets taken away, that Em is better then him because he still has people who care about him, and that this happens when you fuck with gods. That letting go is the best thing you can do for that persons memory, for the people you have left and for yourself, he offers Em a way to interact with Mia again, like what he did with his own memory versions. Just as closure.
Which is where that design comes in.
and yes Em does eventually fuck with time, which those result we yet to see......maybe it works, maybe it doesnt.
