Fingers comb through her hair, pretending to part knots from knots--Bernkastel magicked away the ability for her hair to create something as human as tangles long ago, but still, the sensory experience of brushing it out is nice even for a witch. "It'll be easy. Things like: don't go to the ramen shop on this day, don't talk to that Ken kid today. Take an extra suppressant. That's all I ask of you to entertain me. And then you'll get a nice, new ending--one that matters. ...So? How about it?"
her answers only serve to bring him more questions, but shinjiro is quickly learning to pace himself. questions mean answers, and answers mean more questions - that's the obvious cycle here, and he's already been told what he really needs to know. go back in time. change shit up. try to fix things as best he can.
it's an offer he can't refuse. obviously.
“ can't say no to that. ” he really wants to ask what persona 3 means, but he'll refrain. “ you gonna tell me what you want me to do, or do i get to pick ? ” it's very obvious he would prefer the latter, but he'll take what he can get.
no such thing? eito quirks his lip, worries the inner corner of his mouth between his teeth, grazes against an old spot of scar tissue. here, aragaki’s philosophy occurs to him as a terribly human one: such a careless brand of cruelty could only belong to that abominable species. he lowers his eyes, swallows his nerves and offers as much of a smile as he can muster. “oh, sure. that part makes sense.”
he's dealt with the unpredictable, leering reactions of their kind for far longer than he's known aragaki or any of their fellow combatants; that part isn't new. what is is playing the part of the raw, emotional, teenage animal, pretending that the irresistible forces urging him to bite back or to pull away are anything other than normal. here, he's forced to pretend he's made a mistake. that the feelings he's hurt are the kind that matter.
"well, i've always known i can be intense, but... i'm sure infighting's the last thing any of us needs right now. i just can't help but think i should have had more control over myself." as if.
shinjiro tilts his head to each side as he listens, entirely ignorant of the real thoughts going on in aotsuki's head. the man's words, and his outward projection, are offered sincere - if not a touch emotionally immature - consideration.
“ well, if you ask me, infighting's inevitable. people aren't gonna agree, and somethin' like this is gonna get ‘em all fired up. it’s not enough to just be right - you gotta be right louder than everyone else. ”
“ … honestly, if you ask me, it ain't worth it to try ‘n convince everyone when you can only control yourself. but if you’re gonna insist on goin' the altruistic route, you're gonna have to stand up for yourself, too. that's just the way it goes. ”

shinjiro would like to state, for the record, that he totally fucking called this. the forecast had said the likelihood of a storm was slim, but take it from a guy whose wellbeing for so long depended on predicting these things - he knew there would be a storm.
and here it is.
while they're halfway down the trail. halfway up the damn mountain, mind you.
his coat, currently slung over his arm and shoulders like he's a comic book supervillain, is doing the work of keeping them both dry for the time being, but there are some clouds not too far off that say it won't save them forever. the only choices left are to book it back down the path or huddle up somewhere until it all blows over.
“ well, leader ? ” he'll try not to sound like he's really saying i told you so. he'll fail. “ what's the plan ? ”
“ please don’t do this. ” - mitsuru ( teehee. )
he only hesitates because it's her. if aki were the one trying to stop him, he would've stormed out before the man could get a word in - because he can't stand how hurt and desperate his best friend sounds. for mitsuru, though … yes, he hesitates. the cold tone of her voice soothes everything burning in him, and after all he's done, is it any wonder he would chase that ? is it any wonder it would at least make him linger a little while longer ?
still, hesitation is a far cry from changing his mind entirely. hesitation is just an acknowledgement; recognition, however brief, of the fact that no one wants this. least of all him. wants and needs are very different things, though, and shinjiro will always prioritize the latter.

“ don't let aki do anything stupid, okay ? ”
they've already exhausted every debate about this. shinjiro has said his piece time and time again, as has mitsuru … as has akihiko. he understands their feelings, but the facts remain: he did what he did, and he's too much of a danger to continue in this place.
