it was just mason's luck that the moment he was able to come back from the other side that he was thrust into a shitty situation. he had been fully prepared to come back as his former self; a triggered werewolf that had already learned to deal with his physiology. now instead of focusing on protecting his nephew and seeking out his revenge, he had to deal with learning to accept being a vampire. at least temporarily. it was a hard pill for him to swallow; going from being a wolf that hated vampires to being the very thing that he despised.

he was hungry. all the time. and no matter how many times he stuffed his face, nothing seemed to sate the never ending hunger he felt in the pit of his stomach. he knew what he had to do to fix it; the very last thing he wanted to do. but after days of fighting against his new vampiric urges, he finally gave in late one night. snatching up an unsuspecting victim from the shadows of a dark alley and draining them dry without a second thought, unable to stop himself from drinking his fill until he was satisfied.

he dropped the now limp body with a shaky gasp, licking over his lips as the innate shame and guilt over what he had just done began to set in. "fucking hell.." he mumbled under his breath, before his back stiffened, feeling the presence of another being behind him.

with every encounter that he had come across throughout his thousand plus years of existing, elijah had always prevailed. every weapon forged against him and his siblings always failed to finish the job of ending their lives. elijah was no fool; he was very well aware of the fact that his virtual indestructibility was the main factor of every obstacle he had overcome over the centuries. but now that he had been rendered vulnerable and disgustingly weaker than before, it was the first time since his human years that he actually felt real fear. especially in regards to his siblings, all of whom had lost their immortality.

he was especially concerned about niklaus and rebekah, who had no means of defending themselves. while he and henrik still kept some semblance of supernatural abilities, with the latter being transformed into a witch and himself being turned into a wolf, his remaining siblings were nothing but humans. and just as he did before in the past, he swore on his now mortal life that he would protect them by any means necessary.
