Tiberius couldn't help the small upturn of his lips at her response. "Your mother certainly didn't either." He commented fondly. She'd put on one heck of a show in her own arena and he found himself wondering if Rose would put on as much of a show. He quickly shoved the thoughts away, pondering her question for a moment. "This year's batch is certainly impressive, but you're all older. Even the tributes in the outter districts are stronger than usual. Some of them at least." Mainly those in district that had the harder labor.
"What do you think of your competitors?" he questions, trying to gauge her confidence in herself. Did she have confidence in herself and her own abilities?
The mention of her mother caused Rosmarinus to smile. She didn't mind the connection being pointed out, it was a honor to be compared to her mother, but she also felt a tinge of worry at the back of her mind. What if she didn't give up to everyone expectations, what if she let her mother down.
She listened intently to the Sponsor's response to her question before pondering his own posed question. "I think there's some really strong contenders. Career and non. I think it'll be a good show. Though..." She paused before continuing "...without underestimating my competitors or getting overly confidant, I do trust that I will be crowned at the end of it."
The girls glitter, striding glorious and coatless in the rain I remember falling through these streets Somewhat out of place, if not for the drunkenness It makes my chest hurt to think of it Not of regret, but of missing that
Who: Tiberius and Rosmarinus (@bloodmoonriising) Event: Caesar's After-party Where: Mueseum
He'd come to the after party as both a means to keep an eye on Natalia and to possibly garner information about the tribute's first hand. He was looking over a display when movement in the corner of his eye caught his attention. His gaze turned to the side and he paused, watching her for a moment. Rosmarinus. He'd only seen her in passing in the last twentysome years - catching glimpses of her along the beach in Four - respecting Natalia's wishes and keeping his distance. But this very well could be his last chance at getting to know her herself, past the stories and praises Natalia had sang over their child over the last two decades.
He stepped away from the display and towards Rose. "It's... it's Rosmarinus right?" He questions despite knowing exactly who she is, despite having a picture shoved behind the identification card in his wallet - a picture of he, Natalia and Rose when she was just a few months old. "A ten, that's pretty impressive." Recalling her training score, it was something he'd bring up with any other tribute.
Having left the ballroom to come and look at some of the Museum exhibits, Rosmarinus couldn't help but wondering if there was one for her mother's Games. Though she doubted it would feature anything she didn't already know. During her training at the Academy they had to study all the Games and Victors, but there was always a focus on learning about Four's wins. Pulled from her thoughts at the mention of her, Rose turned to look for the source of the voice. There was something about that voice, she felt like she knew it. But Rose knew she didn't know the man, instead recognizing him as a Sponsor who owned a resort in District Four, Titus or Tertius or Tiberius or something.
"Yes sir, Rosmarinus Morrissey." Offering a genuine smile, but still be modest she nodded. "Thank you, I think the viewers will really like what they see when I launch tomorrow. I don't have any intention of letting my supporters down." She tried to test the waters to see if she thought he had any interest in sponsoring her during the Games. "You liking what you're seeing out of this batch of Tributes?" She asked curiously.
Where: The 75th Hunger Games Arena
When: July 15th, 75 ATT
Who: Rosmarinus Morrissey and Fletcher Cresta â @bloodmoonriising
While heading to the fish traps both Fletcher and Rosmarinus had set up earlier in the day, a twig broke under the weight of his footfall, but he dismissed the crisp snapping sound and kept his gaze glued to what was in front of him. Alert and apprehensive, he had to remain exceedingly conscious of his body and his surroundings. Every brush of a leaf against his skin, every sharp breath he took, and even every scentâbe it the pungent brines of the waves or the rusty iron of bloodâhad to be immediately recognized for what it was; otherwise, it would become a fatal distraction. Ultimately, each sense he detected and anything associated with it must be distinguished between being lifesaving or life-threatening.
Although the hyper-vigilance kept him secure for the time being, it was overwhelming and took quite a bit of his energy to remain so aware of himself and his environment, causing him to more easily fall into paranoia and despair. Dehydration made matters worse, but with the welcome addition of Rosmarinusâ spile, hunger was the next limitation to overcome.
Fletcher thought about the high probability of him dying in the arena and, more woefully, all the loose ends he would leave behind if he did. Letting his concentration stray for a moment, he looked over to Rosmarinus and squinted his eyes in disdain, but not at her as a person, but at a choice she made. She chose to be in this harrowing predicament. Was one of those followers blind with devotion who volunteered seeking glory. Xander was just as foolish. But he reminded himself that both Xander and Rosmarinus were only kids. Impressionable. A victim to a ruling power that wouldnât care if they lived or died. At least she carried determination and conviction on her back, making her more likely to be victorious. If Rosmarinus were the one to survive the Games in the end, maybe she could deliver Annie one final message for him. He did not want to think so negatively, but he had to be prepared for the worst.
âYour mother,â Fletcher began saying, but paused after hearing some rustling in the distance. âYour mother, whatâs she like?â
Things seemed to be going fairly well for the career pack. They had yet to lose anyone, the spile from her mother helped solve the fresh water issue, and Rosmarinus and Fletcher had been able to make and set a few fish traps that the District Four pair were now checking. That put Rose even more on edge and focused. It was just when things start going a little too well that fate or the Gamemakers have to intervene. She also knew they were somewhat exposed as they moved through the jungle as quickly but quietly as they could, causing Rose to be vigilant. Her eyes, ears, nose, and hands taking in as much information as they could about their surroundings.
Rosmarinus was a bit in front of Fletcher but still well within eye and ear shot when he had asked about her mother. Pausing her walk, Rose turned back to look at Annie's father. "She's great." Rose replied quietly before beginning to walk again. "She's everything I wanted to be growing up. Intelligent, deadly, compassionate, and she won't take anyone's shit." She hesitated for a second almost adding more but deciding to bite her tongue instead. Who know Fletcher's reasoning for the question, he could have been trying to distract Rose to take her out. Still, she couldn't help but wonder what Natalia was thinking as she watched her daughter in the Arena. Was she proud?

crickets, cicadas, beetles and mosquitoes buzz throughout the jungle. or so he thinks at least, as he rakes through his knowledge from the academy and they had lessons on bugs. don't ask him if those insects are common in jungles. he wouldn't know. does part of panem have such greenery shrouding all around them ? district two had desert and mountains depending which region you were in. ezra had long been accustomed to mountains personally. he remembers when one of his classmates asked if keeping watch was boring, and ezra wanted to scoff at the question. when lives are in your hands, is there the opportunity to be bored ? so far the answer had been a resounding no for ezra.
hand goes to belt as the sound of twigs breaking and leaves crunching approach. he's ready to use one of his knives if he needs, but the face is familiar. it's the woman from four: rose. she's another volunteer. in his forties, she looks like a child. god forbid he ever has to fight her, even if she seemed primed for the hunt. it'd be like going after cadence or clove. " it's been quiet tonight. i think i heard a wave a bit ago, which just tells you how quiet it is," he offered. hunger hasn't taken him yet, but his throat is dry. he also feels a layer of uncomfortable sweat condensating onto him. " having trouble sleeping ? "
Hands go up to show she's no threat when Ezra hand goes to his belt, no doubt for one of his knives. "Woah, just me." but by then his hand had already dropped.
She considered sitting down for a moment but then continued to stand. "I doubt the Gamemakers will do anything this soon. It's mainly the other Tributes we need to be looking for at this point." Rosmarinus wasn't sure she'd call the jungle of screaming and buzzing insects quiet but she knew what he meant. During daylight she thought she had heard a bird on multiple occasions. If she had to guess, somewhere there was jabberjays. How could they not have them after the whole Katniss and Rue heartstrings scene that had played out last year.
At Ezraâs question Rose hesitated a moment before nodding. âYeah, I guess my body is still feeling the adrenaline from Launch or something.â She shrugged.
âBeen thinking about our next moves when light comes some.â Moving to sit finally so itâs easier for them to talk, Rosmarinus starts to explain.. âWater is definitely a top priority no matter what else we doâŚâ She pauses âOr whoever tries to be the âleaderâ.â She air quoted but then went back to the topic at hand. âThe water around the Cornucopia was salt water, so obviously we need to find a source of freshwater.â She looked up at the tree canopy above them. âBest case, one of us gets some purifying drops. Worst case, we boil it. Absolute worse case, we donât purify or boil it and we all get sick and die shitting our brains out.â It was early for Sponsor gifts but perhaps one of the Career Mentors had smoozed enough money out of a Sponsor already. Itâd be a whole lot better than basically giving everyone their coordinates by lighting a fire.
The reminder she was leaving had about the expected response. She knew her leaving each year only served as a reminded to her daughter that she would never join the ranks of the victors. She didn't speak more on it, simply drinking her coffee as Rose told her her plans for the day. "Sounds good, babe." Though she didn't believe the smile on Rose's face. She'd have to be sure to check in on Rose a few times while she was working in the Capitol.
She was quiet a moment before the sound of the Panem's anthem echoed through the house. Natalia rolled her eyes as she moved towards the living room to see a hologram of the president. She didn't say anything, quietly observing as the announcement of the Quell was drawn out in Snow's typical fashion. She took a deep breath, trying to wrap her mind around what had just been announced.
Her eyes found her daughter as Snow continued with his speech. Suddenly Rose's future wasn't so secure. "Well kiddo, doesn't look like Waking up with the Whitvales is in store for you anyway." Her voice sounded a lot lighter than she felt. It felt like a pit had formed in her stomach, a pit that would drag her down and drown her. "Go get ready." Fuck this all to hell.
Relief rolled over Rosmarinus as Natalia seemed to believe her facade. She didn't like worrying her mother in general, which she knew she did even if her mother denied it, but she especially didn't like worrying her mother during the Games when she should have been focused on her Tributes.
Rose let the silence continue but it wasn't long before the Panem's anthem began. Part of Rose was excited to see the twist for this year's Quarter Quell but a bigger part was still heartbroken she wouldn't be there Mentoring. Grabbing her coffee, she followed her mother towards the living room. She watched silently in a state of shock mixed with determination. Her mind was already made up, she would volunteer. And this time? No one was going to do it before her.
"Apparently not." Rose scoffed in disbelief at her mother's statement. Was she dreaming? Was she really about to get another shot after all that she went through in the past four years? She wondered who would volunteer for the male tribute, hopefully no one older and more experienced than her but considering the age range of possible Tributes, she had a feeling she wasn't going to get her hope met. "I won't be long." She responded before starting towards her room.
She luckily had done everything except put her make up on. Once she picked an outfit out for the Reaping and done her make up, Rose headed back downstairs. "I'm ready when you are." She was trying not to think about the Reaping until they got there and the ceremony started, otherwise she risked alerting her mother to Rose's plans.
she easily towers over rose in this moment. in the heels they put annie in, she's well past six foot. but the energy rose exhibits makes the tribute seem like she's at eye level, and a part of annie feels bad that she cannot at least fake the same level of joy that radiates off her friend. she's drunk, maybe from the colorful sweet drinks here or the party's many cocktails. annie's felt stone cold sober since the holographic interruption earlier, paired with what happens tomorrow. ( though her drink count had only been less than two total. )
but still she can muster a smile by focusing on rose's own. her smile has always been warmth inducing. right now, she reminds annie of her son's namesake the day before the seventieth games. " hey was wondering where they were keeping you, " she responds friendly. " congrats on your score by the way. i didn't expect anything less from you. " it's one up from fletcher, but that doesn't matter at the moment. it can go unsaid. rose is her friend too, long before she was a tribute in all this.
Happy to see Annie smiling, Rosmarinus laughed lightheartedly. "Just been making my rounds, trying to drum up some support for District Four." It was true, she had been prompting District Four, but Rose also knew a lot of the smoozing she had done tonight would benefit her and not Fletcher. Who, from what Rose had seen, was not being the friendliest to those that could help save his life with much needed Sponsor gifts.
"Thanks, Annie. I'm just glad I started working out and training again. Can you imagine if I hadn't been in fighting condition? I wouldn't have been able to volunteer!" Rosmarinus surged forward to hug Annie. "Thank you for helping me get here." She spoke quietly before letting go of Annie and stepping back. "Fletcher did well really well too." She tried to encourage her friend back. She wasn't sure what Fletcher had done for his skill presentation but it must have been impressive. God she hoped she didn't have to kill Fletcher, she'd never be able to face Annie or Finnick again.
stop asking me how everything is going, i donât know iâve been ignoring it
Portia was enjoying the games so far. It was a lot more enjoyable this year when she was a little more famous. The stylist for the lover boy. It was all she ever wanted. She remembered when she worked for Domi, dreaming of one day being a stylist for the games. It simply coming true was enough, but then to end up with a victor on her first go. It was amazing. She really had learnt from the best, with Portia achieving what Domi had nearly a decade before her. It meant that this time round, Portia found herself invited to all the parties. And she was loving it.
The museum party was lovely, and she was enjoying looking at some of the exhibitions. She had seen a couple of her designs from last year, and it made her smile to see her things on display. It made her very proud. She'd been a little distracted, thinking of that when someone spoke to her. "Oh...." She had just about caught about what the woman said to her. She briefly could remember her from the reaping, even if she couldn't remember her name. "They really do. but you get used to them. They are very yummy."
It didnât seem that the woman had noticed her prior actions, which allowed Rosmarinus to take a deep breath.
âWere you born here in the Capitol?â She asked curious but also just trying to make some small talk since she did address Portia first.
âI know most stylists are from the Capitol but every once in a while you find someone from the Districts who made it.â Would Portia have made it if Peeta hadnât won? Rose didnât know and it was not really of her concern.
âOh! Iâm Rosmarinus Morrissey, one of the Tributes from District Four.â She added, realizing Portia very well may have no idea who Rose was. After all, it was her mother that had the claim to fame. Until just a few days before, Rose was just some ex-Academy kid that would forever have to live in her motherâs shadow. But now Rose had a chance to make her mother proud and to show that she had everything it took to be a Victor too.Â

[Caesar] You, like the Hunger Games, have a legacy, my dear. Your mother impressed us immensely during her Games. She must be so proud of you. Did she give you any advice after volunteering?
Rosmarinus smiled proudly and nodded to Caesar's mention of her mother. She was proud of her mother, but her mother's legacy also was a heavy crown to wear. Rose thought back to when she first was able to speak to her mother after volunteering and the advice Natalia had given Rose as the train had sped towards the Capitol. Of course Rosmarinus had no intention of revealing the real advice her mother had given her about the Games, no need to share that with her competitors, or the Gamemakers.
A smirk tugged at Rosmarinus mouth corner "She may have told me a thing or two. But I think the most important piece of advice she gave me was 'Don't Die.' Which is pretty good advice if you ask me." She laughed lightheartedly.
The windows were open, sheer curtains fluttering and moving in the light breeze as Natalia leaned against the countertop of her kitchen, coffee in hand as she contemplated the day before her. The president would announce the reaping twist for this year's games and then one by one the districts would reap their children. She would reflect on the day thirty-six years prior that she'd nearly lost her sister. Natalia might have been a free-spirit, but her sister was gentle far more so than Natalia. It'd only made sense that Natalia had volunteered.
She was lost in her own thoughts when Rosmarinus joined her in the kitchen. And it was from those thoughts that she was pulled at the sound of her daughter's voice. Glancing up, she offered a smile and turned to set her mug on the counter.
"Morning, darling," she murmured softly, moving to grab a plate which she served an omelet from a still warm skillet onto. "There's coffee still in the pot," she informed, sliding the omelet towards Rose.
She was quiet a moment as she retrieved her coffee and moved to the small kitchen table. "I'll have to leave shortly," it was a matter of fact, though one she didn't like broaching with Rose. She knew Rose still mourned her lost opportunity of volunteering, but Natalia couldn't deny the relief that her daughter would not have to know the inside of an arena.
Glad that her mother wasnât treating her like she was delicate, Rosmarinus happily took a fork to the plated omelet Natalia had slid in front of her before even making the slightest movement towards the still steaming pot of coffee.
Cup now filled with black caffeinated liquid, Rose began pouring a generous amount of cream into her coffee. Her spoon stopped stirring at her motherâs announcement, a slew of emotions Rose did not want to even begin to address hitting her like a spear to the gut, before resuming again its rotations again.
âCool.â She nodded as turned to face Natalia âI think Iâm just gonna take a self care day. Just watch some old episodes of Waking Up with the Whitvales, eat junk food, maybe even paint my nails?â She added, raising her eyebrows with a forced but hopefully believable smile despite the fact she hadn't been able to paint her nails since picking up the nervous habit of picking and chewing at her fingers and nails.
Where : Capitol, Museum of Panem History
When : 75, Day Five, Caesar's After Party
Who : Rose and Annie ( @fatefought )
Caesarâs after party had been in swing for a few hours and Rosmarinus was feeling all the neon beverages she had consumed during the evening, long having lost count. Euphoric and on top of the world, Rose was loving the attention and lavishness of the party, the Capitol, and its people. Then she caught a glimpse of familiar hair in the crowd. All forgotten, Rose handed her drink to the closest person before beginning to push through the crowd in search of the one person she still needed to talk to before going into the Arena. It still felt unreal that she was going to the Arena tomorrow. Focus.
She reached Annie and reached out to tap her on the shoulder, hesitating for a split second, Rose then moved to get Annieâs attention. âHeeeeeyâ She spoke very happily. âIâm so glad I found you!â Avoiding, avoiding talking about Fletcher. What was she supposed to say? I hope your dad wins and I donât? I promise not to kill your dad? Iâm sorry?
Where : Capitol ; Training Tower, D4 Floor
When : 75, Day One
Who : Rose and Finnick ( @secretlics )
The only hint Finnick had given Rosmarinus about his thoughts on her volunteering was the disappointed big brother stare he had given her along with âYou and I need to talk later.â when he had caught her in the bar car on the train earlier. If it was any sign of what was to come, Rose wasnât looking forward to their conversation. She knew he didnât want her to volunteer. He may not have said it directly but she hadnât been blind to his gentle encouragement to focus on something other than volunteering. But Rose had to do this, not just for the little girl from Four that dreamed all of her life of becoming a Victor just like her mother, but also for Neptune. He may have died because of her but she would not let their lives spent training go to waste. Still, Rose knew the conversations that were to come with people in her life were not going to be easy.
She had tried to stay in her bedroom on the train as much as possible. Avoiding Finnick who now had to worry about her and Annieâs father while knowing that in the best case scenario only one of them would be coming home, avoiding her mother while was no doubt blindsided by Roseâs hand going up that morning as she volunteered, and avoiding having to face the reality of her decision. Forced out of her room as the train had neared the station, Rose had gone to one of the train windows to look at the approaching Capitol. She couldnât remember the first time she had gone to the Capitol, her mother said she was very young, but she had always found a bad taste in her mouth when around its people. The very people that she now smiled, waved, and even blew a kiss to as the train pulled into the station and brightly colored people forced themselves forward trying to get a look at this yearâs District Four Tributes.
Guided from the train station to the Training Tower, Rose was finally able to take a deep breath as the District Four crew stepped into the glass elevator and was whisked upwards rapidly. Stepping out the elevator onto the District Four floor, Rose looked around and began to step forward to look for her bedroom, only to feel a hand on her arm. Turning her head she realized it was Finnick âCanât this wait, Finn? I want to freshen up after being on that train so long.â Avoiding, always avoiding.

Where : Capitol, Museum of Panem History
When : 75, Day Five, Caesar's After Party
Who : Rose and Portia ( @ofportia )
Excusing herself with the excuse of needing to procure another neon blue Capitol concocted cocktail, despite the many Avoxes tasked with walking around with trays of glass of fizzing, glittering, foggy, and even flaming liquids of the brightest colors, from a conversation with a group of overzealous Sponsors all wanting a piece of the possible next Victor. Moving as far into the crowd of moving and buzzing bodies as she could, Rosmarinusâ calloused fingers grabbed a passing glass of her beverage of choice as her feet came to rest.
Eyes scanning the room for an open opportunity to both smooze and try to line up some support in the Arena, but to also live like it was her last night on earth, as it may have very well been. Glass pressed to her lips as she turned the glass bottom side up as she quickly drank all the liquid in one go, glass then flipping up right as eyes checked that no one saw her. Only her eyes did find someone, Portia Something, Rosmarinus only knew her name because of Katniss and Peeta being such a big deal. She smiled quickly. âYou really have to be careful with these things, they go down so easily.â Rose attempted as genuine of a lighthearted laugh as she could muster.
Where : Arena ; Slice 2
When : 75, Launch Day, Night
Who : Rose and Ezra ( @fatefought )
Night had fallen a few hours earlier and it was decided that Ezra was on first night watch shift, Rose and the others had settled down to try and get some sleep despite the heat of the jungle not letting up in the slightest. Only, as Rosmarinus lay on her back listening to the jungle sounds, one hand resting on the handle of the trident she had made off with from the Cornucopia and the other resting on her chest, she could feel the beating of her heart. She had spent so much of her life training for the day, so confident in how sheâd respond in the Arena, and now she had nerves?
It felt like an eternity had passed before Rose let out a soft sigh and carefully stood with her trident. Using the moonlight to navigate, Rose found her way to where Ezra sat against a tree. âHear anything?â She asked quietly, eyes scanning the thick brush of the jungle. Who knew what waited for them in the Arena. Rose knew with it being a Quarter Quell that the Gamemakers had a lot in store for them.
